  1. Are you still angry at Art Modell? Time to move on.
  2. I also just realized that, according to ESPN rankings, the sixth best quarterback available is Kerry Collins. It may be worth it for him to try that route as well. I offered the Flacco-Bush for Manning-Tomlinson trade last night, but I just pulled it off the table. Hopefully after he watches Flacco put up better numbers on my bench than he'll ever see from his team, he'll get desperate. Seeds have been planted.
  3. I know he may be better off running with McCoy and seeing what happens, I'm just hoping that me being the one to play him adds some desperation on his end. Either he accepts the trade and I upgrade RB, or he risks McCoy laying a turd and I blow him out, in which case I'm in even better shape before week two.
  4. IT's a 14-team league, and I'm carrying 3 QB's, so based on that alone, the waiver wire is bone dry. ETA - I just went and checked, and according to ESPN rankings, the top 3 available QBs in order are Carson Palmer, Shaun Hill, and John Kitna.
  5. I'm in a 14-team league that drafted a week ago Sunday, back when Manning was still going very high. I drafted my backup QB very early, just in case someone else's QB went down. The guy who has Manning is my week 1 opponent who now has to start Colt McCoy. CLIFFS NOTES VERSION: I'm thinking Flacco and Michael Bush for Manning and Tomlinson, and if he doesn't accept, I can "compromise" up to Flacco and Thomas. So far, Manning seems to only be ruled out for the first 2-3 months with a possibility of returning around fantasy football playoff time, which could be HUGE. Otherwise, I get a significant RB upgrade, and he gets a significant QB upgrade with a potential starting RB to fill the gap. Thoughts?
  6. Reports are circulating that Peyton Manning may have had another neck surgery today. ETA - link
  7. There are matchups like that all the time, whether or not interleague exists. The A's and Royals are playing a series right now. Looking at the scoreboard from ten days ago, there was a Reds-Nats series. Divisional matchups can be just as pointless, unless you think there would be any interest at all over a Cubs-Astros series right now. Personally, I think year-round interleague could make the playoff races more interesting, assuming there are any that are actually up for grabs in September. It would double the number of playoff-bound opponents the Cubs could face in September. It would beat watching the Cubs trying to spoil the Cards or Brewers every year. And if they face the Orioles in September instead of the Tigers or Rays or Red Sox, then it's no worse than watching them play the Padres or Mets or Pirates.
  8. It wasn't, but for some reason Yahoo thinks they'll all score the same number of points. ESPN is still listing Braylon Edwards at zero points, even though it's already been announced that he's not going to be suspended.

  10. WR/RB Flex spot options: Steve Johnson (@ KC) Ryan Grant (v. NO) Shonn Greene (V. Dal) Ochocinco (@ Mia) I also have Burleson as a possibly WAY undervalued WR, especially with Calvin Johnson on the other side and a possible breakout year for Stafford on the horizon, but I'll wait at least a week or two to get him in there.
  11. Jeebus. How many teams in that league? I'm assuming start 2 each of WR and RB with a flex? I lean pretty pessimistic on Vick, and this team still looks ridiculous.
  12. Well, this WAS a great thread. sneakypower=bonershrinker
  13. This was what I took away from the game today. Cubs offense was clueless, and Quade's ineptitude was clearly reinforced. Giving up three runs to the Giants is like giving up 8 runs to a real offense. Plus, 3 runs over 5 innings from Rodrigo Lopez is just about a best-case scenario. Pushing it was just stupid. The offense was for a boost, and Wells had just given the bullpen an extra day of rest, so Grabow, Russell, and Ortiz were all nice and fresh. On a side note, Lopez, Grabow, Russell, Ortiz, and two hits from the Cubs offense makes for about as bad of a game I could have picked for attending one game all season long. Thanks Cubs. Pics later. Maybe. I was six rows from the pitchers mound of the Cubs bullpen. Got a really sweet shot of Shark's mullet.
  14. Turns out that MLBtradeRumors tracks FLS. Link
  15. "The voters are too dumb to figure it out" seems like a poor rationale for deciding unilaterally that the most valuable player in any given year can never be a pitcher. Fine, allow me to re-state. Pitchers are more valuable than position players. Change the name of the MVP to remove the confusion and acknowledge that the CYA and MVP are equivalent-level awards for pools of candidates which do not overlap. Having a CYA yet still considering pitchers for the MVP basically de-values pitching altogether.
  16. I have two teams. One is in a 14-team league, the other was an 8-team. Drafting an 8-team league was amazing after how deep I had to dig on the 14. 14-team league (PPR): QB Tony Romo RB Ray Rice RB Daniel Thomas RB/WR Michael Bush WR Hakeem Nicks WR Brandon Marshall TE Jimmy Graham Def Atlanta K Billy Cundiff Bench Joe Flacco Sydney Rice Braylon Edwards Donald Brown Eddie Royal Anthony Dixon Matt Hasselbeck (Third QB due to bye week fail with the first two. Hoping one of Flacco or Romo becomes good trade bait.) After that draft, the 8-team draft was so much fun: QB - Philip Rivers RB - LeSean McCoy RB - Frank Gore Flex - Ryan Grant WR - Roddy White WR - Mike Williams TE - Antonio Gates D - Bears K - Gould (Selected for purely homerism purposes, will prob change Ks frequently) Bench Steve Johnson Shonn Greene Chad Ochocinco Austin Collie Daniel Thomas Jay Cutler (again with the homerism) Nate Burleson
  17. I don't think pitchers should be eligible for the MVP. Isn't the CYA basically the MVP award for pitchers? Voters have a hard enough time comparing the value of two position players. There's no way pitchers should be in that mix as well.

  19. As soon as Ramirez made contact, he put his head down and ran hard to first. Such an egotistical ballplayer.

  23. Yea, I'm on board too. Len made pretty good points in his blog post (linked on his Twitter, ftr). He references the incessant media speculation removing all credibility, but he also focuses on the fact that the Ricketts family wasn't very widely discussed at all in the Cubs sale process until they emerged as the winning buyers. That combined with the point made earlier about how the media was completely out of the loop for nearly a full month about Hendry makes it pretty clear that no one is going to have inside information on this process until Ricketts is the one making it public.
