  1. Sorry but overall this season Young deserves it. I guess that means a Padres board has started a Punch Derrek Lee campaign. :?: :?: :?: Let me explain. You see, there was this game between the Cubs and the Padres, and Derrek Lee (he plays for the Cubs) was batting against Chris Young. Mr. Young hit Mr. Lee with a pitch, and Mr. Lee took umbrage with Mr. Young. Mister Young said something not nice to Mr. Lee, and Mr. Lee attempted to punch Mr. Young. At that point, Mr. Young tried to Punch Derrek Lee. Well put, thank you. I think 'umbrage' just became one of my new favorite words.
  2. I think people are ignoring the single biggest factor in all of this. To be kind, I'll say it's "familiarity." Raw, I will point you to the Eddie Murphy skit about Ritz crackers and regular saltines. This will never happen to me. My girlfriend is Asian. /ba dum TING

  4. I love how, in all that talk about pitchers having excellent seasons despite the lack of wins, those articles are written like the win category is a hurdle that needs to be overcome, rather than admit that wins are a worthless measuring stick. No pitcher with a 1-5 record and a 3.47 ERA is going to feel bad about his season, other than perhaps that it's being spent with the wrong team. I don't know about that-pitchers get pretty concerned about their win-loss record. It doesn't mean much as a stat, but pitchers themselves do care about it, and I'm sure that many care about wins more than their ERA, which is kind of strange. I guess it makes sense. The mentality of wins being worthless is based off the fact that you need the other 24 guys on the team to perform in order for you to get that one tally mark on your record, so if a pitcher doesn't get the win, he either a) didn't do enough, or b) is happy with his performance and blames his teammates.

  6. I think if the Cubs keep the good times coming, the videos shall abound.
  7. Anyone know when the last time was that the Cubs won 9 of 10? June 12th - June 22nd in 2004. Won 2 @ Anaheim Won 4 @ Houston Lost 1 vs. Oakland Won 2 vs. Oakland Won 1 vs. St. Louis The Cubs went on to go 9-14 in their next 23 games after that stretch. But the LAST time it happened was from May 27th to June 5 in 2005 Won 3 vs. Colorado Won 3 @ Los Angeles Won 1 @ San Diego Lost 1 @ San Diego Won 2 @ San Diego The Cubs went 10-19 in their next 29 games after that stretch. Ewww,. Let's not start a crappy stretch today! Given the schedule over the next month, it's safe to say that a similar crappy stretch would end our season. But with how fun winning has been, I think the Cubs should just go ahead and keep it going.

  9. Heading up to San Jose to catch a minor league game. I'll be pestering family members for updates while I'm on the road coughFREDcough. Please win, Cubs. Enjoy the game, everyone.
  10. ME TOO!!! http://images.southparkstudios.com/media/images/310/310_urked_cartman.gif
  11. Yet another game without Izturis or Jones in the lineup. How much longer will they have roster spots?
  12. The sweep against the Marlins will haunt us forever. When I think of the Marlins taking 3 in a row and haunting us forever, this season is not what comes to mind. The Cubs underachieving will be frustrating, but for 9 games, they've been overachieving, and all of a sudden we're enjoying being right in the middle of everything again. All season long, we've been pointing at the fact that, based on expected w-l, the Cubs are among the top teams in baseball. I think they'll maintain their status in the XW-L category, and the frustrating start will come close to balancing itself out. In the last nine games alone, the Cubs have won by a run on a 9th inning suicide squeeze, they blew a 5-run lead in the 9th and still won, and they spotted a very good team 5 runs in the first and still won. This same team three weeks earlier doesn't win any of those games. Just enjoy watching the pendulum swing the other direction. It may be cliche', but if it doesn't all even out in the end, I think it will at least come close.
  13. I had that fight with a recent girlfriend pretty regularly. That fight got a lot more interesting when I found out that part of her past included her and her ex doing webcam shows. Hypocrisy at its finest. My current girlfriend reads trashy romance novels and understands the whole porn situation, and she is okay with it as long as I don't shove it in her face, and as long as her and I remain good and functional.
  14. A married friend of mine (a guy) said that he thinks 2-4 times a week is actually better than every night, just because that way there's a little more effort out of both involved... I guess it's sort of the mentality where it's still regarded as a treat, whereas any sustained stretch of every night will make it turn into more of a chore. His words, not mine. I'm just throwing them out there.
  15. AZL final - Mariners 6, Cubs 2.
  16. I've only left early once. I was living two hours east of Atlanta and had to work very early the next morning, and the Cubs-Braves game was lasting a very long time. Tom Badwin had 5 hits that game, Sammy had 4 RBI in the first two innings, and the Cubs were leading 15-5 in the 8th inning. The game was already pushing 4 hours long at that point, so we left, and as we were walking out, Javy Lopez hit a meaningless HR to bring the Braves to within 15-6. Every other game I've been to, including about 12 minor league games, I've sat thru the entire thing.
  17. Scoreboard watching also means the Cubs are doing well enough to where the rest of the league is actually relevant.
  18. My situation dictates lack of activity during the week, but the weekends make it average out to about daily. It's the perfect distance.
  19. Here's what I've got..... but you know how fast things can change...... Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter 81 Mon 07/02 @ Washington - Lilly Simontacchi 82 Tue 07/03 @ Washington - Zambrano Bowie 83 Wed 07/04 @ Washington - Hill Chico 84 Thu 07/05 @ Washington - Marshall Bergmann 85 Fri 07/06 @ Pittsburgh N - Marquis Maholm 86 Sat 07/07 @ Pittsburgh N - Lilly Van Benschoten 87 Sun 07/08 @ Pittsburgh - Zambrano Duke Wow, that's quite the lineup of opposition pitching we face. If none of our starters crap the bad, we should have a very good chance of seeing the Cubs take all of these. Hell, apparently we can even let one starter get away with crapping the bed and still pull out a win.
  20. AZL Cubs and Mariners tied up at 1 after 4. Balks led to each team scoring their runs. Luke Sommer tripled to drive in Jeffrey Rea for the Cubs.
  21. You can always follow the Mesa Cubs game Link Cubs are up 1-0 after 2. Edit - Ryan Harvey sighting! Sweet, thanks!!
  22. I hate when there's no day game to divert my attention from class. Now all there is left to do in here is fall asleep.
  23. Soriano hits a bases loaded, 2-out walkoff single to drive in two and win it for the NL. Not really. I voted AL.
  24. Cubs really shouldn't lose this game. Please don't suck. I'm going to catch the Giants' high A-level affiliate tomorrow evening, so I'll onnly be able to catch one or two of the middle innings tomorrow on mlb radio. Cubs outdueled the Brewers head to head, now let's see them pick up another game or two playing the same 7 games against some bottom feeders.
