  1. I agree wholeheartedly with the last sentence above. I'll never get the desire for people, Cubs fans no less, not to get behind him 100 percent. He doesn't get on in the 10th, we don't win. Period. Sure, obsess over his imperfections, but he's had a great season, and any notion to "bench" Theriot is absurd. I can take or leave Cedeno, but he sure strikes me as a dumb player most of the time. Theriot has worked his butt off to maximize his talent and had a fine year. I, too, don't understand why so many posters are against him. I'm not "aganst" him, but I want the Cubs to upgrade SS if possible. Cedeno isn't that upgrade, but Theriot's age, sub-Neifi/Pierre levels of power, terrible defense and horrible baserunning meas he should be the backup in 2009 for, ideally, whoever the Cubs find as their new starting SS. It is hyperbole like this that leads to these long argumentative threads. That's one the least hyperbolic things written in this thread in the last few pages. "terrible" and "horrible" and Neifi are all gross hyperbole. You can criticize his defense or baserunning or power, but, believe me, if he was "terrible" and "horrible" and Neifi-like, he would not be playing. My God, what would that make Cedeno? It is over the top stuff like this that makes what it is said not very credible.
  2. Yup, it is pretty obvious that this is the best play-off rotation.

  5. Watching Met fans die a thousand deaths is making my week. :)
  6. yup, Theriot double clutched, but also had 3 hits and a stolen base. Cedeno failed to cover 1st on an obvious bunt (got there late and dropped the throw), made ANOTHER miserable sac bunt and continued to do that goofy slide into first base where he is called out every time. Oh, he was also 0-5 with 3 K's. Neither guy is perfect, and he sure isn't an all-star, but I will take Theriot every day of the week over Cedeno.
  7. It actually looks like he has good stuff. He got squeezed some that inning.
  8. This is a baseball board, man. Enough.
  9. And some people -- no matter how bad the head coach is flushing their alma mater's/favorite university's basketball program down the toilet -- refuse to acknowledge the possibility that the head basketball coach is an abject failure. Stubborness prevails indeed. I have no idea what this reference is to but it seems like a sick burn. ohhhhh Pman has his nose so far up Bruce Weber's behind that I have no idea how he can even watch the games. Nice, [expletive]. The fact you were dead wrong on Choi really still bothers you, doesn't it? I don't blame you for being bitter, you looked like a fool. Of course not. I've certainly been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. I just think its funny listening to the president of the Bruce Weber Apologists lecturing others about stubborness. You need to get over your past failings And you need to actually acknowledge your own. Sorry, this is a baseball board, not an Illinois basketball board. I can separate those things. I talk all the time about IL basketball on the IL basketball boards.
  10. I am fine. I like Cedeno as a back-up. There is nothing I wouldn't like better than seeing Cedeno blossom. I like Theriot and the year he has had. I don't name call, I only defend myself.

Go ahead, attack the poster if you really don't have any defense to your position. Edited by a mod to remove the improper language that this poster knows he is not supposed to use on this site. 13. The problem is that posters get in player 'camps" and refuse to get out off them. Years ago it was Choi, it matter not a bit how badly he did, his fans refused to believe he wasn't a major league player. Next, Murton became a favorite. He was bad with us and horrible with the A's. Some still think he was screwed here. Now it is happening with Cedeno. Hey, I have no problem with him as a utility guy, but no matter how well Theriot does, some just won't admit he is a better player than Cedeno. Stubborness prevails.
  14. Cedeno has a lot of physical talent, seems to have an improving approach at the plate, and his minor league numbers dwarf Theriot's. And he's younger. Theriot is a nice decent league minimum player who doesn't hurt the team too much, but it's not like he's a great player. Why is this so astounding? Have you watched Cedeno at the plate? He is clueless. How about in the field? Remember the double play up the middle he muffed and lost us a game 2 weeks ago? I never want the ball hit to him past the 5th inning. He may be one of the least intelligent players I have ever seen.
  15. Man, I still can't believe anybody here would go with Cedeno over Theriot. I am dumbfounded.
  16. "Now that we've clinched home-field advantage through the rest of the playoffs, we'll give everybody a chance to play," Piniella said. "You can see that this year home field is really important. All the teams that are in or are playing for playoff position have played really, really well at home. This year, especially. We'll rest some people and try to put a team on the field that's fresh."
  17. If that's true then why did they modify their rotation for the rest of the regular season to be: Marquis Marshall Zambrano Harden Dempster Lilly Marquis/Marshall They want Harden off regular rest.
  18. exactly. Lou is saying the right thing, but will do the right thing for the Cubs. Soto will get a few off, but it would be a mistake to "shut him down till the play-offs". It also works in our favor to keep the Mets from clinching early. We want Santana to pitch this weekend.
  19. He doesn't want to, he wants to start Game 3. Dempster, Harden, Z, and Lilly sounds good to me. Trib says this is the rotation. Harden says he feels great, by the way. The best he has felt this late in the season.
  20. The Riot should get some rest. Anybody that thinks Cedeno is better needs to come back down to earth. I don't actually believe I heard that.
  21. a festival of the concerned.
  22. Lord, do we have to be concerned again? I cn only be "concerned" over so many things at once.
  23. Especially Rich Harden. Nope, no reason to be concerned there. I never was. You sure about that? You bet I am I don't get "concerned" over anything in sports. The day I start worrying over sports issues is the day I give them up.
  24. Especially Rich Harden. Nope, no reason to be concerned there. I never was.
  25. no. Just enjoy the play-offs. If I was paying attention to this board, there is nothing I shouldn't be concerned with.
