  1. Were these the same voices in your head that thought Kevin Hart was an MVP? You talking to me?
  2. If Silva pitches well, he either becomes trade bait at the deadline or gives us the opportunity to trade some young pitching at the deadline. If you're a Cub fan, nothing bad can come from Silva pitching good. hear, hear.
  3. Yeah, I know some are unhappy he is doing well, but not me. He s a Cub and I am happy he is having early success.
  4. There were a bunch of people here that thought Hart was a good one. We traded him for a reason. Many here thought Murton was a star we screwed over too.
  5. Silva has earned the job.
  6. well, that is business. All MLB teams do it. In this case there is no point, but in some cases it could do more harm than good if you're spoiling the players opinion of the organization. If it's blatantly obvious that he's the best option, but you keep him down to save a few million three years from now, that can piss off the player.
  7. Why don't you want him around Sandberg? Did i miss something?
  8. He is an unpopular player and a washed up player. He has very little chance of sticking.
  9. Terrific signing. I suspect between RF, LF and 1B and pinchhitting, he will play 120 games.
  10. That's doubtful. Kosuke would run circles around him with the glove, and at best he might be a modest upgrade with the bat. No doubt on D. But if Fuku slumps, Nady will play. You don't play RF in the majors cause of your D. Nady can hit. Also plays a solid 1B.
  11. Terrific signing. He may end up beating out Fuku. Good at 1st base and an adequate OF.
  12. Nady is an average outfielder and a good first baseman. A better hitter and fielder than Dye. He will cost more also.
  13. Yeah, a variation of that deal was on the table and being seriously discussed, although the Cubs would have only gotten Castillo. Each team would have received one player. In the end, too many moving parts. Cubs were not in line to receive more than Castillo.
  14. Cards appear to be bidding against themselves. Yanks and Red Sox have no interest now. Angels never did. Unless the Mets get involved, he is a STL Cardinal next season.
  15. That is the Met's limited partnership. The Mets owner, Wilpon, lost huge money. There is serious speculation inside baseball that the Met's big spending days are over.
  16. The Madoff Mets dom't have the money they used to....
  17. Yeah, why would the Cubs DFA him? He will get a chance to make the team next year and if he doesn't, he will simply be optioned to the minors. The kid has a good arm.
  18. Don't be silly.
  19. what are you talking about? derosa makes more than two times what miles makes. if you're gonna bitch about trading derosa and signing miles (which is perfectly valid) in the offseason, at least have the facts straight. Jesus, dude - who peed in your cornflakes? Miles is making 2+million and DeRosa is making 5+ million this year. All he said is that the prices were comparable. Yes it's double his salary but in the grand scheme of things when you have players making 15-20 mil, the ~3M difference between the two players is certainly comparable. sorry, 2 mil and 5 mil isn't comparable.
  20. He can make 12 mil if he meets his incentives below: After months of stalled negotiations, Pettitte and the Yankees agreed Monday to a $5.5 million, one-year contract. While the guaranteed money is less than half New York's original $10 million offer, he can make an additional $6.5 million in bonuses: $4.5 million based on innings and $2 million based on days on the active roster. He would earn the entire amount if he pitches 210 innings and doesn't go on the disabled list.
  21. well, when his velocity dropped last year, you knew there was a problem, even if folks here didn't want to admit it. I am an optimist and I could see it.
  22. Don't forget his month absence in 2008. Did the blister problem come from underuse?
