    I would hope that nobody is rooting against these kids. From the guy who can't wait to run over to NSBB and update everyone on Murton's, Patterson's, and Gallagher's struggles, that's rich. All he seems to be doing is reporting on how they are doing. He can't make them be successful. He didn't provide game-by-game updates on Gallagher during his first four starts. We did hear all about Murton's struggles during that time frame. And Patterson's. The first peep we heard from Pman about Gallagher was after he started struggling -- and all of sudden Peoriaman was all over him too. Excuse me if I think his suggestion that he "would hope that nobody is rooting against these kids" is disingenous. actually, I did comment on Gallagher's 1st few starts. Again, I can't make them succesful. Unfortunately, neither Murton or EPatt have had any big days to report on. I know you can read my mind, but I hope they are successful. Especially Murton, who seems like a great guy with a great attitude.

Why the personal shot, Brusstar? Who pee'd in your proverbial Cherios?

    Also, Patterson 1-4 and batting .148, Murton sent to minors and Gallagher getting hammered, Beane has to feel pretty bad about this deal. I guess the players are still young and the minor league catcher is yet to be factored in.

    I guess we should have benched Aram when he went thru that brutal streak last month. Fukudome provides golden glove caliber defense as well as speed on the bases. You let him work through his issues rather than giving up on him.

    I am all for giving him some rest, but he needs to be our regular first baseman.

    The Yankees free up 88 mil after this year and will go hard after starters. Luckily, Sheets and C.C. are first on their list, but the market for Demp will be very good.

    Nail meet head. Reed is being used exactly as he should be and Fuku overall play merits a starting job. Johnson is OK as a defensive outfielder but cannot carry Fuku jock in right field.

    Patterson now 2-19 with the A's. .292 OBP and .105 BA.

    It shows you how good we are as a team, and how naive some fans are, that wailing on our 5th starter (who is pretty respectable) is actually the most frequent thing we do here. This is how far we have come folks.

    No need to disagree. I said they may have let him in to up the bidding. I didn't say they intended to start a legal battle. I think there would be a bigger battle if they didn't even allow him to look at the books. At least if they did it this way, they can make up something about preferring another structure. I think there is a group that doesn't want him, but I have a hard time thinking there's a big enough group to prevent him from buying. And that there would be enough rational owners who see the value in selling to the highest bidder with the liquidity to run a successful franchise. My point exactly. The Cubs and MLB know they can get Cuban through.

    well, we shall see. There isn't a shortage of big money people bidding for the Cubs. I find it hard to believe that they solely allowed in Cuban to hype the bidding with the intention of starting a legal battle over his ownership denial. We will agree to disagree.

    Perhaps, but then again, maybe they were only willing to get him involved in the bidding process, in order to drive up the price. Oliver Stone stuff there.

    Here is where you are off. When a group wants to bid for a club, said group must sign a release which states that they have no recourse if they are not chosen as the winning bidder for the ballclub...i.e., cannot sue. Tribune had to sign a similar agreement. BTW, yes, Kenney (the self proclaimed chairman) was the lead General Counsel and was involved in M&A with Tribune on the legal side of things. This saying, he was involved with the acquisition of Times Mirror Company which quite frankly began the downward spirla of the Tribune Company and why they are where they are today. Why on earth would the Tribune sign something limiting thier legal options? What possible benefit would they get from that? They signed it to get the right to purchase the Cubs in the first place. But that was a long time ago, and it still does not mean they can't and won't file a lawsuit. exactly. Documents that relinquish your legal rights are rarely found to be binding. That said, if Cuban wasn't acceptable he would not have been part of the bid process. The Cubs and MLB do their homework on this stuff. It is big time finance and that kind of monkey-wrench isn't left out there to jam up the works. MLB/Tribune are smarter than that--they aren't neophytes in the M & A business..

    I see Patterson was returned to triple A after a 0-10 run. He joins Murton there. That leaves Gallagher left with the big club.

    But are the requirements for being approved as a bidder a bit more lax than for being approved as an owner? Not really. The owners are instructed to not approve bidders if they don't think they are qualified. What people forget is that owners badly want the Cubs (and all other teams) to sell for outrageously high prices. That does nothing but increase the value of their own franchise. The Cubs have discussed the bidders with the other owners to make sure that there would be no problem with approval of all of them. Selig has done the same. This is a small group of people and they comminicate regularly about these things. The Cubs President was a M & A guy before he was appointed Cub President--he knows what he is doing. On top of all this--and don't underestimate this--any arbitrary disapproval of a qualified potential owner would open up MLB to a serious and very expensive lawsuit--and Sam Zell would not hesitate to go this direction.

    Yes. The other owners have to approve who even gets to bid. Cuban was approved to get a bid package and both parties (Cubs and Cuban) wouldn't waste their time if the buyer wasn't acceptable.

    There are no concerns that any of the possible bidders will not be approved by the other owners. That is a done deal.
