  1. I believe the whole reason his is on the move is that he wants to start. I think adding him for the bench is more or less impossible.
  2. Assuming we are not going to be able to add salary, Izturis, Jones and Hill should be traded for absolutely anything, even organizational filler. If that can't be accomplished DFA them. I think the team is immediatley better with Cedeno-Murton-Soto over Izturis-Jones-Hill, so who cares if they have to eat the remaining salary. Jimbo should spend the ASB working the phones for any potential deal and move on if none can be made.
  3. I'm probably just dreaming here, but what about the Nats? With Guzman having season ending surgery yesterday, they might be the one team desparate enough.
  4. Out of the teams that have been in print as having interest in Jones, I have also heard/read that the Sox are considering moving Iguchi in their impending fire sale.
  5. Seems reasonably fair to me. I think you have a legit gripe for sure.
  6. This has to have a negative impact on the market for Jacque (assuming there is one).
  7. I've got room on my roster to stash away one of the two on my roster for a little while and see what shakes out of this deal. Who do you guys think is the better bet to close games if Lou does indeed "shake things up"?
  8. I don't necessarily agree that you have to extend him. The way I see it, if you trade for Ichiro, it give the Cubs a real chance to be contenders in 07. If this give us a division title and a punchers chance in the postseason, I am all for it. If we fall out of the race before the deadline, I would guess Ichiro would net the equivalent of Gallagher and PTBNL to some contender. So to me the risk comes in if the Cubs nearly win the division, but fall just short. I'd give up this whole package (depending on PTBNL) for a division title, and I'd give up Jones for the improved opportunity, even if it ends in a deadline dump of Ichiro.
  9. I hear the Yankees have got this Rivera guy that has been pretty decent for the last 10 years.
  10. A buddy of mine that is a Reds fan seems to remeber Lou once saying "You can never have enough lefties." The motivation behind this move might be as simple as that.
  11. First interview question: Where do you stand on young players competing with established veterans for playing time? I think that unless we can actually get Wells or Jones for CF, that we need to bring in a veteran stopgap type for CF - Roberts, Cameron, Edmonds - in hopes that Pie will be ready in another year or so. If someone proves ready to unseat whoever is in center or Izturis at SS, they should not be held back by the coaching staff.
  12. What about Joe Crede as a target if Aramis leaves? The Sox have Josh Fields waiting in the wings and the Cubs could give them pitching to flip for the CF they want. Plus, Izturis seems like an Ozzie type player...
  13. I thought the Cubs had signed this guy http://www.hawkcentral.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060817/HAWKS0101/60817005/1053/HAWKS
  14. Just a thought, but what about Griffey for CF for next year? I believe he is a FA, but does he plan on trying to retire in a Reds uniform? At his age he might be willing to accept a 2 year deal, which should give Pie enough time to get ready, and he could always be shifted to a corner OF spot if Pie is ready in year 2.
  15. Their weak offense and good defense would look a lot more serviceable with plus offense at the remaining 6 everyday positions. We already have that at C and 1B, plus 3B (assuming ARam doesn't opt out). Jones would be an adequate offensive LF (particularly if platooned with Murton), if we could go get a CF (isn't Griffey a FA?) and RF (Sheff) that could provide big offense relative to their positions. Not sure if the dollars would work out, but that would be a much better offense than we are seeing on a day-to-day basis right now.
  16. Any chance he would be packaged with Maddux for something substantial? How is their farm system?
  17. Looks like it is Ensberg who is going to lose time http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2517046
  18. I am hoping to see a middle infield of either Loretta-Cedeno or Cedeno-Lugo.
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2509667 Could it actually happen?
  20. I should still have the 45 at my parents house. I'll have my dad ship it to me if he can find it and post something about it on here once I get it on my computer (I'll have to find out if one of my friends out here has a record player, someone must).
  21. By my math: Taguchi - 36 Edmonds - 35 Encarnacion - 29 avg . = 33 Murton - 24 Pierre - 28 Jones - 30 avg. = 27 Expecting the Cardinals to perform at their career average appears tenuous.
  22. I've played on many teams in many sports, and when we win a lot, we seem to get along (at least on the field of play) and vice versa. Even though I think it has more to do with winning than how you get along to begin with, I'll take a stab at it... 1. Brewers 2. Pirates 3. Astros 4. Cubs 5. Cardinals 6. Reds
  23. I would suggest reading the entire article. If you read the quotes in context, I don't think Walker crossed the line.
  24. It can be kind of frustrating in Las Vegas. They count us as in the local market for Arizona, San Diego, LA, LA of Anaheim, Oakland, and San Francisco. That is an awful lot of blacked out games. The first four are 4-6 hour drives, calling us in the Bay Area market (8 hour drive) is just ridiculous. I will probably still get the package again, but I definitely wouldn't if I were a NL West fan.
