  1. Is Gary Gaetti available?
  2. Now we really need Zambrano to come through with a gem. Maybe he can take one deep for the 1-0 victory.
  3. I wonder if Ramirez is going to need a DL stint. That would be crippling right now.
  4. Ronny has looked overmatched ever since he came back up. What are the chances that he gets sent back down in favor of Pie soon, now that EPatt is up and can play 2nd as well?
  5. Does anyone know of a website that has a good draft manager/optimizer for football similar to the baseball prospectus player forecast manager?
  6. Piazza has allegedly cleared waivers. Just how awful is he behind the plate these days? It's not like throwing out runners can be an issue, since Kendall can't throw anyone out either.
  7. Neither Payton or Murton is in the lineup for their respective teams today. Get ready for it...
  8. I see Murton still isn't in the lineup, contrary to reports last night. While I wouldn't mind having Payton on this team, I think givig up Murton to give him up is a horrible idea. If they could get him for a mediocre prospect or two, I wouldn't mind seeing Soriano-Jones-Floyd against righties and Soriano-Payton-Murton against lefties. Essentially makie Payton the 4th OFer and Murton the primary PH/5th OFer.
  9. Won't Linebrink probably be a Type A free agent?
  10. Isn't Aramis probably about due for one of his regularly scheduled off days?
  11. Oops. I knew I had that backwards. I was looking at the as RHB split instead of vs. RHP. I am not a bright man. However, that probably makes him more attractive given this teams ineptitude vs. lefties.
  12. The A's have DFA'ed him and he can really mash righties. Might he be the kind of marginal improvement Hendry would be looking to make for the bench right now? Surely it wouldn't cost as much as it would to get a Matt Stairs type guy, and he could fill the Darryl Ward role as the primary PH vs. righties.
  13. Sarcastic wrote: That's possible. A DL trip for Posada would increase the importance of the back up. But the chances that he'll suffer an injury that would give the back up substantially more playing time are small, which makes it a relatively unimportant acquisition still. Still a worthwhile gamble in my book. If the Yankees are going to stand a chance this year, they can't leave any gas in the tank. They didn't give up much, and they can't let Nieves play in a pennant race.
  14. Asmodai wrote: But what if Posada has to do a 15 day DL stint, or even if he is out for just a week. Wouldn't that have the potential to compound the damage?

  16. Definitely an upgrade over Will Nieves.
  17. The way I talked myself into being okay with the Kendall trade was that if he sucked for the first month or so and Blanco didn't make it back, maybe Soto would get a real shot. So here is my question, can you guys think of a situation where a "name" player was acquired for the stretch run and then benched in favor of a rookie due to non-performance? I, unfortunately, can not. Hopefully Kendall will play well enough to make it a non-issue...
  18. I would like to thank this Cubs team for creating a situation that allows us to have this interesting of a discussion late on a Saturday in mid-late July.
  19. What SP is available that you would want? Vazquez maybe? Who do you move out of the rotation? I suppose it would have to be Marshall via trade, Marquis is making too much money and hasn't performed poorly enough to lose his spot (given that salary). Isnt Vazquez or any other available starter over Marshall just another marginal upgrade like we have discussed at positions? How about a dominant left setup guy that would allow us to put Eyre out to pasture.
  20. While I think Sosa or Glaus could each provide potential improvements to the team, I think both have extraordinary situations that make them highly unlikely acquisitions. Glaus would have to play out of position. Playing him a SS would be a calculated risk, but given the value this regime has put on defense, it seems unlikely. Playing him in RF when he has no history there (at least that I am aware of) strikes me as a risk a contender simply would not make. Sosa, model citizen in Texas or not, would threaten to upset the clubhouse chemistry that Hendry and Piniella seem to place a very high value on, as evidenced by the handling of Barrett. Outside of Griffey, I can't think of an available big bat that makes sense. When is Tejada supposed to come off the DL?
  21. I meant that Soto might be included in an upcoming trade, and that this weekend was his final showcase for whoever is interested in him. I have little doubt Kendall is our catcher for the duration of this season, for better or for worse.
  22. I agree with you Neifi. It makes me wonder if wasn't a brief showcase for another trade. What is the Reds catching situation like? Might he be a chip they would be interested in for Griffey?
  23. I would guess Soto will be going back down to play every day in Iowa.
  24. I'm sure she is still doing fine for cash, but I think she got the axe after this season.
  25. Who cares if Hill is out of options? If Soto is up and Blanco is making progress, he is going to have to be exposed to waivers soon anyway. I'd be amazed if anyone claimed him.
