  1. Meh...I'll take Bradley. I would be suprised if JH would swing this deal.
  2. great post. i agree 100%. of course some know-it-alls on this board said no way giles doesnt go to the highest because its all about $ but apparently they were incorrect. When the board starts working better I'd appreciate it if either of you to coould produce even one post where anyone here said any of the things I've bolded. If you can find even one post I will pay for each of you to have a months worth of premium membership. =; you big spender :)
  3. Hendry might not, but Furcal and his Rocket arm will be :)
  4. He also mentioned that the first team to add the 5th year probably gets him. I say do it, he is still young. I disagree. Furcal is a 2nd tier SS and I'd rather not have him much longer once Hendry and Dusty are sent packing. I could deal with 4/38M, but that's probably not an offer he accepts. Would you list the "top tier" SS in the NL then please! Also, list there availablity via free agency or trade! Thanks! Who's better in the NL? Bill Hall and Felipe Lopez. Does it matter who's available this year? This isn't checkers, it's chess. We can solve the OF issue this year via trade and then afford to have some combo of Neifi/Walker/Cedeno in the middle infield. SS offensive production per dollar is very low compared to other positions, especially the OF. There are plenty of viable and productive options available in the OF, where the dollar goes further. Let's spend money there where it makes the most sense. If a stud SS comes along in the future, assuming Cedeno doesn't pan out for us, we can upgrade. And I will stop right here. Unbelievable that you would say Bill Hall is a better SS than Furcal. Wow, I didn't know what I was dealing with when I asked you a simple question!

Would you list the "top tier" SS in the NL then please! Also, list there availablity via free agency or trade! Thanks! Why does it matter only for the NL? As others have said before, there's: A-Rod Jeter Tejada Peralta(if he can repeat his numbers) F. Lopez(ditto Peralta) Young(if he can repeat his splits) Then there's quite a dropoff to Furcal, Renteria, and the like. That's why he's second tier. I understand your post, however...are any of these guys available via FA or trade? If not, our options are few and our team needs to sign the best available SS. As others have stated, what scares me is Plan B or even Plan C. I don't want Ronny or Perez starting and I don't care to see AGonII at all. Furcal is our best option IMO.

  7. Fine with me...Get him out of the NL and not in a Cardinal uniform. I am glad Hendry didn't throw that offer on the table for Giles... The BJ's will not like this deal in the long run.
  8. Well, I am happy this is being reported, my only reservation is the simple fact that Bruce "i make stuff up and report it" Levine broke the story!
  9. Nice sign for the Mets, now if they get Manny...they might start to make some noise in the NL East. Does this have any play on Furcal now? Braves are out of the Wagner sweepstakes, or were they ever even in it?
  10. True or not, I like the idea of him coming off the bench and spot starting here and there. He always seems to handle situations well and just about ruined Big Z's terrific game last year when he took Hawkins to the warning track. I would rather have Mike Lamb, but beggers can't be choosers !
  11. You must have missed the 04 season then ....
  12. In other words, Steve Stone coming up to here himself talk. "Hey everyone, I know baseball, I want to be a GM... Look at me... I look good...real good"
  13. Hopefully this means they're wrong about the Pierre deal. Pinto may be our best pitching commodity in the minors, as he's got great stuff, isn't constantly injured (a la Guzman), and is relatively close to the bigs. To give him AND two other prospects up for an overpriced, potentially awful Juan Pierre coming off of a bad season for 1 year is absolutely ridiculous. Meh, I understand Pinto has potential and Peirre has been "down" the past year or so. However, I really like the idea of a speedy good OBS leadoff followed by Furcal and Lee/Aram.
  14. I'd also add that he has a greater likelihood of being really bad than really good, since his ceiling isn't that fantastic. My question would be is Pierre an upgrade to what the Cubs had last year at the top of the order? Yes. I like the trade and think he'll set the table nicely for DLee and Aramis. Now Hendry needs to get the Furcal deal done and the top of the Cubs order will be stacked. I agree bud, Juan Raffy DLee ARam (I like the top, don't know who after that)
  15. Oh boy, the Score says they "don't know why the Cubs don't bring Jeromy back" .... Bwahhaaahhhaaahhaa
  16. He lists the Cardinals, Mariners, Dodgers, and Yankees as suitors. No mention of the Cubs. It appears Giles's price is a minimum of 3/30. Why we won't go that high is a mystery, but according to Rosenthal (sketchy source I know), the Padres are out. I also found it interesting that Jacque Jones has set his price at 6-8 million a year. No way would I pay that much for Jones. I wouldn't put much stock in this, just a week ago Cardinals "bow out of Giles race" .... Cubs have been mentioned about as much as the Cardinals have and have not come out and said they are not pursuing him. I believe he ends up with the Yankees personally.
  17. I've been pretty disappointed in all the non pinstriped Cubs jerseys in recent years. The current blues are hideous. The red billed cap is clownish. The road grays are hardly a classic. I understand, I dislike the "softball" jersey look and frankly don't like the road uni's. However, on a beautiful summer day when the boys take the field at Wrigley in the home Pinstripes. There is nothing better! Go Cubs!
  18. Well said! I will concur, nothing is more frustrating than watching Prior or Z, heck even Maddux leave in the 6th or 7th and we end up losing. If it takes 11 million for Eyre and 12 for Howry to win us 10 or 15 more ball games...Folks that is the playoffs!
  19. Always liked the old logo. I'm interested to see what they'll look like. I had no clue there was an M and B in the ball and glove until like last year. I'm a fan of the logo. If you look real close, there is a ball in the center of the glove :)
  20. Be it the Brewers or any other team that continues to change uniforms makes me thankful for teams like our Cubbies, Detroit, Yankees, BoSox... Teams that don't have to change the logo and uni's every other year. Carry on Brewers...
  21. Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. He has the potential of being a .290 35HR guy in Fenway, especially when hitting in the same lineup as Big Pappi and ManRam!
  22. Great trade for the Red Sox, I for one am happy Beckett is out of the NL. Hopefully Burnett will go to Baltimore or Toronto so we don't have to deal with him either.
