  1. Hopefully Felix can make a good impression today. I was expecting Lou to mix it up in the outfield.
  2. Not necessarily. Teams may want him but not at his full price tag. Say someone like the Twins is interested. With the way the Phillies have tried to dump him the past 3 years, there is at least a slight chance that they may have let the Twins have him and the $18M he's owed through next year. They know they can't afford that so they don't want to take the risk. But now that he's cleared waivers, they're free to negotiate a deal where they can get the Phillies to eat a good chunk of money in exchange for some prospects.
  3. The Podsednik situation got more attention because we actually put a claim in on him and he plays across town. We obviously didn't put a claim in on Pat the Bat.
  4. It's not as simple as some of you are making it. Yes he is absolutely awful in the outfield. He misplays balls routinely, takes terrible routes, he has amazing trouble ever picking up a ball cleanly off the ground and his arm and where he throws the ball is very inconsistent. Basically all of the bad attributes we've seen from Pagan, Jones, Floyd and Murton exist in Pat. He may not be a terrible downgrade from what we have this year with Floyd, but do we want to be committed to that next year also? He can be extremely inconsistent and disappear for a month or two or more at a time. He hit .215/.378/.408 for a .786 OPS in the first half. He's hit an absurd .404/.526/.697 since the break. Even at age 31, it just scares me that there seems like a decent chance he can revert to '04 or close to '03 numbers. Would I love his bat from the last 3 years in this lineup? Without a doubt. But I'm not so sure I want to commit $14M to him (plus decent prospects) considering his awful defense and the fact that I'm not sure he'll be much of a better overall value than Murton.
  5. Please, this is nowhere near the worst loss of the year. It is a game where it got out of hand in the 6th inning. Overeacting because it appeared there was going to be a good chance to take a 1/2 game lead if they won, in a game where the Cubs never had a lead. Exactly. You knew we weren't going to hold down this offense in Coors all series, it was only a matter of time.
  6. It really doesn't matter very much. it does. attitude. then whats the point of arguing ever. its in lous blood to get intense. No it doesn't change anything whether Lou gets tossed there or not. It's not like the players will suddenly have a different perspective of him or attitude about the team.
  7. So who wins it for the Brewers, Hart or Braun?
  8. Matt please don't roll over an outside pitch for a weak grounder to the left side.
  9. The biggest issue obviously is the $14M he's owed next year. How much can/would Hendry take on and how much would they be willing to eat?
  10. I know firsthand that Phil Nevin is not a Jerk. There must have been someone else in that article Most everyone who dealt with him in the media would disagree with your firsthand observation.
  11. Where are you getting that from? Soriano- .297/.336/.511/.847 Murton- .275/.345/.419/.755 Even with an 80 point jump in four games he's nearly 100 points back.
  12. Because he just drilled a guy in the earhole and he was obviously very upset and shaken. Good move to get him out before a possible meltdown. Of course as I type this Marmol just threw 4 straight bad ones.
  13. Molina singles to make it 2-1, runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
  14. I think the main reason you were criticized for that order was D-Lee hitting 7th. We need to ride out this slump -- he's still the best hitter in the lineup when Sori and A-ram are out. I very well could be wrong but I remember other slumps for DLee. Again, I'm not saying I'm sure of said slumps but If someone could prove me wrong or right I'd be happy to change the lineup around for another desperate attempt at a lineup. Huh? Of course he's had other slumps. Every player has slumps. That doesn't mean you radically change the lineup every time a player is slumping. You don't move your best (or 1a) hitter into the 7 slot because he's having a rough week or so. It's absurd. This isn't a computer simulation.
  15. Kendall's first 5 games as a Cub: 1-15. Kendall's last 12 games as a Cub: 15-41 with a .366/.447/.512 line. Maybe he can give us around a .280 avg/.360 OBP with a few XBH sprinkled in the remainder of the way.
  16. Not going to happen. I'm sure a team put in a claim before us and even if they didn't the Tribe will pull him back rather than trade him to us for junk.
  17. Just for fun since I already posted his numbers as a Cub since the 1-15 start, here's the updated line in his last 12 games (45 PA's): .385/.467.538
  18. Thanks for posting thoise #'s... BTW, I'm guessing you have no confusion regarding college team loyalty like I do? :D Definitely not.
  19. From the FYI department: Since his 1-15 start, Kendall is 14-38 as a Cub and has a .368/.455/.474 line in those last 12 games.
  20. Ron said he was told that they didn't find an injury in his wrist just "some fluid in there."
  21. He got a cortisone shot and is supposed to be back in the lineup by Tuesday, perhaps Sunday according to Lou.
  22. 2nd half line - .266/.360/.313 that's bad. The OBP is nice, but it's not good enough to offset the nonexistent SLG. He had a ton of playing time in June, and at several challenging positions. Lou is all about resting guys, and DeRosa should be on the list. They need him for August and September, and as a guy who hasn't hit in a week and hasn't hit much more than the occasional since in 6 weeks, there's no reason to try and fill him into more spots in the lineup. For a little over a week I've been hoping he would get something like two days off in a row or three in a week. His swing is looking long and slow to me and he's just not driving the ball like he was earlier. Unfortunately he's probably not going to get that rest any time soon.
