  1. So is Costas out of both? The last part kind of stinks because I don't get Showtime. Inside the NFL isn't as good as it used to be but it's still worth watching at least after the Vikings win.
  2. Really? Miller is definitely better defensively but Barrett was better by a wide margin offensively while here and was able to play more regularly.
  3. That means he's not afraid to face Mariano.
  4. You've got to be committed to the Indian.
  5. I had to cheat to get the last four also. I forgot Cincy and Seton Hall but also Maryland and West Virginia. I hate when those things make me go blank on the most obvious things.
  6. It's plausible. That every team besides the Cubs knows something about Marmol the Cubs don't know? I'm not saying that's it or that it's highly likely but it happens.
  7. Sabbathia is a Cy Young winner. And is only under contract for 3 more months. How long has it been since the Cubs won? Who cares if we lose Sabbathia if that brings them closer to a WS which it will. Yes, it will bring us closer to a World Series for one season, then hurt our chances over the next several years. I think we have a better chance of winning a World Series in the next 5 years if we don't "go for it" to that extreme. I think people aren't realizing how bad our pen could be without a good Marmol anyways. I agree. Marmol is cheap and provided he gets it back together, can be a dominant piece of our bullpen which is very uncertain for the future. Sabathia is likely a rental who improves our chances this year and this year only. Best case scenario, the draft picks help us out in 3-6 years. You guys are talking about a reliever. Yes, a potentially lights out, top shelf reliever at a low cost when the future around much of your bullpen is completely up in the air.

  9. You have? It's a pretty rare condition.
  10. Rare situation with Theriot where I don't want to see a walk. I would have very little confidence in Murton in this spot.
  11. Alexei Ramirez just hit a homer with 2 outs to tie the Indians in the 10th. Cards are down to their final two outs still trailing 7-4.
  12. You're blaming that on Marquis? Do you think it's his job to see the runner out of the corner of his eye, then jump and catch that throw which was well away from him? Unless you have a play called where the throw comes directly to Marquis, that's not happening. You gotta at least know the double steal is an option. If Lewis took off on the throw, then yes, Marquis should be trying to cut off Geo's throw. He fell off a bit to the first base side of the mound, the throw was well to his right. Lewis didn't break until after Geo released it. It's an absolutely impossible play unless there's something called.

  14. his game compares more to barkley's than anyone else i can think of. Rose isn't going to be a 20-10 guy with the second being Barkley. Barkley hasn't ever really had player like him. No one has been 6'4", able to run like a guard, dunk like a guard, yet fight underneath and rebound better than anyone else on the court. Beasley is much much closer to Barkley than Rose. He's 6'6" but a scoring and rebounding freak who can run and dunk like a guard but I doubt he will ever averaged 25-13 for a good portion of his career. He was talking about Beasley.
  15. In '02 and into '04 with Prior, Wood, Cruz, Z, Patterson, Kelton, Hill, Choi and some of the studs in our farm system I thought we had a shot at a run near what the Braves had in the '90's. We had pitching coming out of our ears and what looked like a very good core of position players.
  16. Man I'm drooling over that showdown with Ball State in Detroit. I have no idea what to expect this year. Nothing between 6-10 wins would surprise me. The defense could be very good. WR/TE could be as good as we've had in a while. There's a lot of talent at RB but no experience. The o-line could be really good or medicore and we all saw how bad Christensen was last year.
  17. Do the prices for clubs on ebay usually skyrocket before the end of the bid? I'm looking for a new sand wedge and there are a bunch with no bids over .99 (plus $10-12 shipping) and bidding ends tomorrow.
  18. Outstanding thread.
  19. What's Theriot's mirage start? He had a .415 OBP in April and a .407 OBP in May. In June his OBP is .366 but he's hitting .322 and I haven't noticed a major indication that his walk rate will remain that low. The last 7 days he's 8-17 with a double and a walk. We know his slugging from April was way too high but the guy has consistently been racking up singles and taking a good amount of walks for half the season now. They're not playing all that well right now, they're playing good teams and they're banged up. It happens. We had won 6/7 before the Tampa series. We got swept by a very good team on the road with 3 close games. Then we swept the Sox. We lost 2/3 to the Orioles but we probably win 2/3 if Z was healthy and even then we lost a close game with a chance to win in the 9th. Friday was terrible, yesterday was a 1-run game with a couple of tough breaks (Geo's line drive, Edmonds not being able to score because of injury) and tonight they hit the home runs and we didn't. I'm not worried.
  20. The biggest negative I've noticed with his defense is that he takes bad angles to line drives that are rolling in the outfield. I believe most Japanese surfaces are astroturf though so it may just be an adjustment.
  21. The past few years, the White Sox have pulled way too many players off the scrap heap and made stars out of them. Im not saying, Im just saying. Like who? I wouldn't say Linebrink was off the scrap heap either. -Linebrink 2008 -Dye 2005 -Pyrzynskie 2005 -Podsednik 2005 -Quentin 2008(maybe not Quentin, as he could just be getting more of an opportunity) -Thortnon 2007 Your list keeps getting worse.
