  1. I'm not sure anyone would want to be a 1-year manager. I see it as a similar position as Glen Hoffman was in here in LA. Doesn't it seem similar CR?
  2. Obviously because McDonough has the "interim" tag he can be replaced at any point. I don't think that he has a year or any length of time attributed to him. If Sandy Alderson and Kevin Towers were available after the playoffs, the Cubs would be stupid to pass.
  3. I think Chris Spier wouldn't be a bad choice to be a 1 year manager in this kind of situation.
  4. So why is this news conference NOT on espn news?
  5. Oh well, why didn't he do this sooner so we could have gotten Stan Kasten?
  6. sheesh, what a quitter. He probably has a job waiting for him with the Royals
  7. so what is up?!? I can't listen!
  8. Touche folks, touche. I just rant because I am tired of the bad football teams getting too much press. If I see any more "anyalsis" of the Cowboys or the Panthers or the Bucs i will throw something. I mean, the MVP has a broken foot and was going to play anyway and there is more about an overrated WR with a broken finger. Seriously, who is more important, TO or Shaun?
  9. the oregon/cal game is the best of the weekend. Bring on the gameday crew! If Oregon goes to Cal and wins they should be in the top 5
  10. hey at least we finished the season the way we started it
  11. Not to mention the lack of Branch coverage. ESPN goes from the "Branch Watch: to "oh yeah he was traded to Seattle today" to "Boo Hoo Brady misses Branch" The lack of Seattle coverage is pitiful
  12. ?? who? Everyone I saw and read picked the Panters or the Giants or the Cowboys
  13. ok so I guess I am the only one. It wouldn't make me extremely unhappy if he returned. I am indifferent really. I would enjoy the story that 2007 would be if Dusty came back won it all and then flipped off Chicago on his way out. I guess I am a sucker for irony. In all reality, Dusty isn't as bad as one would make him out to be. If Dusty hadn't been the Cubs manager yet (lets say he was still the Giants mgr) and you could choose any current MLB manager, how many would have put him in the top 10? I know I would have and I was excited to see him take over in 2002. 4 years later and his sucess has been questionable but there has been some sucess. Like it or not, under Dusty's reign the Cubs had back 2 back winning seasons for the 1st time in 30 years and they came the closest to a world series as they had been since '45. Those you can't just throw away. Is it time for him to go, yes. Does he deserve the hatred he recieved, no. Dusty was a lovable California surfer, laid back guy that was out of his element in the big city. He should get somewhat of a respectful goodbye if we are to call ourselves the "best fans in the game"
  14. Why is the last game of the season on a regional network? UGH
  15. This is actually an untrue statement. at the time the Dempster contract was perceived as a bargain, especially compared to other closers on the market and what Farnsworth got. What really sucks is that Dempster had to throw 45 pitches in 3 innings in Houston during the 18 inning game. This was after pitching in 3 straight games IIRC. From then on he was flat. It wouldn't suprise me to learn that he wasn't feeling 100% since that point. If thats the case then Hendry is not at fault and the contract is not ill advised.
  16. Ok, so I have avoided this thread this week in the thought process that there was going to be a lot of Seahawks bashing or just plain no knowledge on them since no one ever talks about them. I am pleasantly suprised. I gotta say though that the guarded optimism is probably a good idea. The Seahawks are underrated and after the Giants game should be more feared. Recap: Hasselback still the best QB in the NFC. Put of the 3 picks on Sunday, 2 were tipped and the last one was thrown to a new reciever that didn't run the right route. 5TD's and 1 pick looks a lot different. Alexander being out is not as critical because the Seahawks have basically been without him the 1st 3 weeks anyway. At least they have a good idea of how to play without him. The defense had not given up their first TD of the season until the 4th quarter of the Giants game when they started in the red zone and the game was already decided (and with backups in). They are ranked 9thin the league and aren't the pushover they are thought to be. The depth on the D-line (even with Tubbs out) helps keep it fresh and the rookies (Tapp & Jennings) are making a big impact. Not to mention Hamlin is back (he was shot in the head last year) and combined with Boulware make a pretty awesome safety tandem. Future: The 'Hawks play well on Sunday night and are looking to make a statement similar to the Carolina Playoff game last year. Another week to gel the "Fantastic Four" can oinly help. I think that many of you will be surprised by Mo Morris (a former U of O Duck). He is akin to Warrick Dunn and is a squirter type of back perfect to squeeze through the front of your line. A prediciton of a 23 carry 115 yard game is not too far off. The defense will be able to blitz similar to Minnesota but they have better cover (and hitting) linebackers then Minny so Grossman won't find too many open recievers. I would expect a lot of screens and rushing. Benson is an X factor as the Hawks might not do as well against a power back. I am giddy about this game as it will be the first live game I get to watch for the Seahawks (the niners were on for me last week) I wis you all luck but I predict a great game in which the seahawks win 24-17.
  17. It would most likely point to a showdown between Dusty Backers and players who didn't want Dusty anymore. Think about it. There were some strange moves this season like Wuertz being left in Iowa and Restovich also. Walker finally being moved and Maddux's odd comments. Z & some other pitchers were vague about their support of Dusty but other players flatly offered undeniable support (Lee & Eyre & Dempster)Now add Nevin. It wouldn't suprise me if there was a huge split in the clubhouse and there was a tun of akwardness.
  18. yup i like that deal now! :)
  19. Hey i won huh!?! pretty cool. I was regretting all the moves I made at the deadline for a couple of weeks and then Cano came back and is playing really strong. Luck of the Cards perhaps?
  20. so can anyone make these picks or is anyone keeping official track?
  21. Moore should be on the AAA highway that Theriot was on this year. He shouldn't be counted on to fill a very important position on a possible contending team. Sign a Matt Stairs type and it would be a better service to the goal of winning and to the goal of better development
  22. So why is no one talking about the NYG vs Sea game? To me its a match up of 2 of the top3 teams in the NFC (with Chicago being the 3rd). I think that this has a chance to be the best game of the weekend and of course I don't get it in So Cal. Who cares about the niners!
  23. That UO game was incredible. What a great and fun game. But if I heard the announcers (Tim Bryant who the heck is that?) rail on teh calls one more time I was going to go nuts. Sheesh, what happened to impartial PBP? Anywho, they jixed Oregon when they said Peterson was being held down. As soon as they said that he ran for 150 yards. On the last TD by Oklahoma, the whole line was grabbing and holding Oregon to create that huge hole. How come they didn't review that? How stupid is it that you can review penalities. Ugh. Fun game though, glad to see Autzen stadium rocking. Glad to be an Alum. Go Ducks!
  24. Yeah I will need mega help with who to keep as this is my fisrt keeper league and I have really no idea how it works. Anywho, good luck Viney, I am sure that somehow I will choke it away
  25. sorry for all those lions fans but my brand new Seahwaks' B-day present Jersey will be worn proud! Gotta love the 'Hawks coming back to win an ugly game at the end. That is the sign of a winning team. They know how to do it ugly and get it done.
