  1. So Shouldn't Marqui start tomorrow and have Lilly relieve him?
  2. The Angels are 7 deep (at least) with quality pitching. I doubt that they would give up a premium prospect for anything other then an impact bat. They haven't dealt young players before, why would they deal them now for a possible rental pitcher that, frankly, wouldn't be as good as their #4 pitcher right now. While I would love to see any of the Angels' prospects on the Cubs, they won't deal for a position of strength. Rather a more likely scenario is for them to deal a pitcher like Escobar for an impact bat. Realistically, more team would take Escobar before Z right now. Jones in Anaheim would have been an option prior to Willits' play but now they are set in OF and at DH (although they would like to upgrade DH). Jones to the Mets makes the most sense right now for either a bad contract (Mota?) or a no name A prospect. Z would be an option for the Yankees.
  3. Yes, because Hendry has such a poor track record with trading players
  4. Making fun of Jones is a favorite pastime of mine, don't you try to take it away from me. Fair enuff. As long as you enjoy the game i guess
  5. cubs winning 6-0 with 3 HR and the board is complaining about Jones. Go figure. Lets enjoy the game fellas!
  6. I highly enjoyed Trammell's Press conference. He was witty and under control. Said all the right things and was respectful to the media and the players. Per haps this is a good break from Lou
  7. hopefully this means that trades are going to start now. We thought there were going to be a lot of deals in the spring.
  8. it did sound like he was depressed and frustrated tonight
  9. Errr, I lived in Oregon at the time. Bowie was an extremely hyped player and the blazers heeded your advice and took the big man because G/F are a dime a dozen. That one didn't really work out too well. If Durant was the only player in this draft then the hype would be that he is a once in a generation player. My point about the football trade analogy is proven by what you just said. 20% of your lineup is on the floor in 1 person. If you can trade 20% for 40% of equal talent you do that to better your overall TEAM. Remember, basketball is the quintessential team sport. If you have an option to double your talent level you MUST look at that VERY hard
  10. This is why a trade might be the best option. Portland has seen it before. An incredibly hyped big man or an incredibly talented G/F? We know how the 1st time worked out but have they learned? A trade to capitalize on the hype could work out similar to the herchsel walker trade in the NFL would be a great idea and still keep the team on the path with an excellent young core. Trading down in this deep of a draft is not a bad alternative.
  11. Randolph for either Gordon/Hinrich would work for me. Oden is Slow and that does not bode well in the West. I understand that he is good but the same was said for Sam Bowie. The #1 pick is a valuable pick in this draft. The deal that a desparate team like Boston would do for it might be enough to entice a trade down. All I am saying is to not have blinders on to what else may be available. Carter might not be the best acqusition but the Blazers have a need for a #3. Durant fits perfect there. Imagine a sign & trade with Seattle for Lewis and they switch picks. Now Seattle picks Oden and the Blazer trade the # 2 to Boston or Memphis and pick up extra picks, at least 2 All stars players and still build a young nueclus. That would have them end up with conceivablly: Yi, Pierce, Roy, Aldridge, Randolph, Jack, Lewis. Would NJ be interested in a Pierce/Randolph deal for Kidd? Now I am dreaming but all these scenarios are present and not that far out of LF. Imagine, Roy, Kidd, Lewis, Yi & Aldridge. I think that's better then just adding Oden.
  12. So instead of a franchise center you end up with marshmallow-soft Vince Carter (and a #1 next year)? Wow, that's a terrible, terrible idea. They should sprint to the podium to take Oden, then look to move Randolph (and Miles). Adding Oden to their young core sets up multiple 60-win season and NBA championships. That's what franchise big men do. Adding Vince Carter makes them a borderline playoff team in the west. You forgot that Portland would have Boston's pick and possibly end up with Yi. A team of Yi, Carter, Roy, Aldridge, & Jack is a pretty solid team too. Jarret Jack is VERY underrated.
  13. But us message board people know all. We should run a team!
  14. All i can say is that coming home after the crappy game tonight and seeing my trailblazers with the 1st pick lifted my spirits! I will offer a strange thought but with this draft being so deep, I think that the team should trade down and collect a huge player. I could see the team trading the #1 overall for Paul Pierce and send Darius Miles to Boston. And also get next year's 1st rounder. Then ship Pierce to NJ for Carter.
  15. Just got back and it wasn't that bad. The team didn't start off "into" the game and Hill didn't have it from the beginning, you could tell from warmups. Larry Rothschild was pleasant and talked to the fans for awhile. The team will get after it tomorrow
  16. Marshall up for his 1st start Vs Wells (No so good thus far) We should be able to pull this one out. I was at the game on 5/22 to see the 11 runners stranded. It actually looked like the team had jet lag or something because they didn't seem into it until the 6th inning. I could tell in warmups that Hill didn't have his stuff and he knew it too. Petco is fun because there are more Cub fans there then Padre fans. We will get this game and take the series before heading to LA. Viva 'la Cubs!
  17. Hey, I countered your offer, and when I re-read my comments, it looks like I was being a little harsher than I actually was. I was joking in my comments, but that doesn't come across as clearly as I hoped. So, I just wanted to be clear on that. Now, accept the dang thing! I don't get how your offer currently is more of an acceptable deal then the one you called highway robbery? I offered: Reyes/Saunders for Hardy/Suppan/Dukes/Stewart/Your 7th Rounder You countered with Reyes/Saunders/4th round for Hardy/Hawpe/Suppan/Stewart/7th/8th rounder To me the 1st offer is the one that is less of robbery
  18. I Will be at this game for the first Cub game I have seen live in 3 years. Petco should be fun. There are a TON of Cub Fans in SD.
  19. sorry I have been out of town and I was still debating...
  20. Hey Fred, What has Soriano been hitting while in the 3rd hole? What about the rest of the team?
  21. I agree that this is his team and that he has had the needed budget if the situation called for it (i.e. Furcal) His bullpen is NOT high priced but I agree that he has paid specific bullpen arms large contracts. I disagree that he overpaid for them. Considering the market (look at what the Reds paid in players) but Hendry has spent large dollars on typical large dollar positions. Setup men cost as much as some closers and it most cases of large payroll teams, are the biggest source of overspend. From the "fixes" available to Hendry when he signed Howry & Eyre (who both were worth what they got paid last year) who else received big money and were worth it? The minor league system is in better shape then you make it out to be. Hendry has little to do with actual development and scouting. As a GM, you have to delegate many things and Hendry can't be everywhere to see every player. Does he sign off on the big ones? Certainly. But in Hendry's tenure as GM, the "big ones" that went bust went that way mostly from injury and not from lack of talent. You can't predict injury for the most part. Hendry's tenure as scouting director was sucessful, so I doubt that he suddenly forgot how to scout. The main argument I have against the general school of thought on Hendry is the money. Budget has little to do with success. Just because the team has a high payroll shouldn't be a reason for a poor grade on a GM's tenure.
  22. So you think Hendry has done a great job and anyone that thinks he should be fired is insane? :? I think that he has done a better job then what is being bantered about after a tough loss. Ironically, the overall mood of the board has shifted today to a much better balance of logical and unemotional reponse. What I was commenting on was the fact that an obviously emotional response to a VERY tough loss was initiated by a poster named as a Voice of Reason. Inherently, you should be the 1 poster who has no emotional response in a situation, but a reasonable one.
  23. How is Jones going to be traded? That leaves us with Floyd as the only LH threat. Not going to happen. Darryl Ward says Hi
  24. He was also on XM saying that he was garbage today and he can't blame the rest of the team for wanting to take out the garbage tonight.
  25. What cracks me up is that this thread is started by an alleged "Voice of Reason." I guess the Cubs can even make reasonable people insane. BTW, The Cubs payroll figure according to the USA today was under100 million this season
