  1. so where is everyone? Is there a shot from the other side? The knothole side?
  2. They're trying to lose their way into a new stadium in Cleveland. Ha, Ha... I liken to him being part of the SuperSize me experiment
  3. it is kinda late in Chicago though, everyone is at the bars watching the brewers. Why didn't they open Wrigley like they did in Fenway?
  4. I'm all the way in So Cal and I feel it!
  5. Why would they need a catcher? Ronny Paulino doesn't work? Also, why wouldn't Sanchez move back to 3B and have them take E-Patt?
  6. It looked like it hit his arm not wrist. Gotta leave Marquis in to retaliate now
  7. wasn't he a bullpen coach for the Cubs awhile back?
  8. wow, these really aren't that bad of decisions. Trachsel & Marshall are a realtive wash as far as who to start to be effective. Have you all forgotten how well Kendal was playing? And Soto has been sliding some, probably due to being tires.
  9. he isn't announcing, only contributing to WGN and doing the blog and Podcast. Brenly will be on TBS
  10. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070923&content_id=2225707&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc What about Trachsel and Ramirez? I think that the comma isn't supposed to be there. Then it makes sense
  11. Yes. And it's BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. In a good way?
  12. Right handed batter or left handed batters coming to plate?
  13. What are all the flu shots for then?
  14. I would head to Arizona. Its only a 5 hour drive for me
  15. even though I suck, I am glutton for punishment. I'm in
  16. One of the reasons I enjoy XM so much is the opportunity to listen to the other announcers do a Cubs game. I am a Pat & Ron homer and given the option, listen to them first but it is always interesting hearing a different opinion. Ueker is one of the best. I liken him to a cross between Jack Buck & Vin Scully. If you find Ueker difficult to listen to then Scully is the same. Remember when they started, they were classically trained journalists who were tasked to "report" the game rather then cheer it. Remember the complaints when Len first started on his lack of emotion on HR calls. He has changed slightly but he is still a straight journalist first. I was surprised when I enjoyed the St Louis announcers this past weekend. The were respectful and knowledgeable but still rooted for their team. Matt Vasgersian is still one of the best of the modern TV era but Rory Markis for the Angels does a good job too.
  17. Not to rile anyone up, but I do have an honest semi-related question. Is everything in baseball quantifiable? What I mean to ask is if all baseball games can boil down to stats and execution?
  18. YES! Good Job Dempster. He had great movement today
  19. That splitter on strike 3 was just nasty
  20. But your assumption of Management's thinking is also not an A=B. If the Cubs make the postseason, it still doesn't make the difference if you are looking at total wins. All moves are meant to make the team better. For all of our analysis and stat crunching and evaluation of management we forget that they are fans too and want to win just as much. If "taking the right direction" means 3 more years of futility, I don't think that is the right direction either. There has to be a happy medium and despite the struggles early this season, this team was created with the goal to contend and it was a contending team. There were holes, yes but not ones that could be overcome. The offseason is at least a month away. Lets wait until it happens to worry about it.
  21. to me that picture is worse the any steroids discussion. That is ridiculous. Portland is a better option then Vegas. Vegas is a transient town and would have a hard time developing a following. The housing market there is suffering and many people can't move as easy and people's incomes are falling. IIRC Vegas has one of the highest foreclosure rates right now. As does the inland empire. I live here and I work here. It is an up and coming blue collar area of So Cal. But it is also full of commuters who went there for affordable housing. There is little in the way of major corporate interests and less people with disposable income. Portland is still growing and the Willamette Valley is rapidly becoming all one area (Portland/Salem) Portland could easily support MLB and be sucessful. It would probably not draw 2 Mil on average until it settles in with a stadium like Safeco but eventually (probably quicker then in Miami) they would be similar to the Rockies.
