  1. Think a younger Mark DeRosa. Play multiple positions, should be able to hit but hasn't yet. Perhaps Infante is ready to breakout like DeRosa did in Texas
  2. I read that Winn is terrible but I don't see it in the stats. What am I missing? Why is this a bad deal? Just for Pie's playing time? If the team were still playing right now Pie wouldn't be playing either
  3. Infante seems to be similar to Mark DeRosa. Perhaps DeRosa is on the move and Infante replaces him
  4. Maybe the Monroe deal helped build a relationship here and it can be a win, win for both teams.
  5. I need some help again this year. What players on my team are exempt?
  6. No skepticism at all. While I am sure that there is value to what you posted (and that the math is correct) I read that there are conclusions that are based on opinions of the stats presented. Certainly it is an interesting opinion and one that has merit but not any more merit then the scout that has been working in baseball for 30 years. i would treat both opinions the same, very credible. But I would also draw my own conclusions based on the information that both situations offer. You go ahead and ask a scout to give you some power rankings and I bet this model would be more accurate. I don't think you're paying attention to what this thread is about. Come to think of it, why did you even mention scouts in the first place? Because of all the math? Jesus. My point is that who is to say that this is more accurate? Wouldn't that be an opinion. My mention of scouts is merely pointing out the difference of opinion. Why is my post resulting in frustration? All i was merely pointing out is that someone can develop a different opinion from the same information. Sorry that all don't assimilate

  8. what is Tim Wilken;s role then?
  9. exact proof that stats can be used to say whatever you want them too and that is why the interpretation of stats are just about as fact as scouts watching aplayer
  10. So the guys that you have at the top of the lists would inherently be better to build a winning team around?
  11. sounds exactly like a reliever to me too
  12. in Colorado in April That's going to be warm. Travelling from Chicago after playing Sunday to SD and then going to LA without a day off also hurts.
  13. and the idiots will rule the world and us smart people will be posting about them on message boards.
  14. Wha??? Is this a drunk post or am i the only one who doesn't understand?
  15. Just a note but I think that the sell of the Cubs is no longer public. Zell bought the Tribune and as part of that purchase has to spin off the Cubs. Technically though Zell is the owner of the Cubs and not the Trib so the deal will be private
  16. I think Prior should sing
  17. fantastic commercial. It looks like they took the long shots from the real blowup
  18. I am an Angels fan too. So Cal proximity with that one, but I also enjoyed Tim Salmon & Wally Joyner as players. My company also has season tickets so I am partial too. The current teams are fun to watch because of their brand of baseball. Watching the hustle and the players outplaying their talent is what people like me who could never play that well always enjoyed
  19. Why would you judge him against the inept history of this franchise rather than against his actual, you know, competition? Ok, what other GM's with the similar Lengths of service have had similar success?
  20. Guys, despite the dislike for Marquis he is not as bad as he is made out to be. He is just this year's whipping boy ala Neifi, Estes, Harris et. al before him. If he were left off it would be as big as a story as Colon & Wakefield being left off. I don't want this to end up as a thread out of control going back and forth about how Marquis is good or bad. The real point that is rolling around in my head is the fact that Hart made the team but Ohman & Marshall did not. Marshall was compared to Hill for much of the year and had a very solid run in the middle of the season. Perhaps the speculation of him having a tired arm (hence the Trachsel move) had some validity to it. The other note on all of this Lou lovefest is Hendry. Look at how he has "matured" this season. Any other season and the Cubs would end up with Monroe & Trachsel on the roster if only because Hendry acquired him midseason. To be left off the roster is a big sign proving that Hendry understands what is best for the team and knows that his moves, while useful at the time, doesn't mean that there are better decisions out there later. That is a sure sign of ego being checked at the door. Despite the Chemistry debate, undeniable fact is that there is something to say about a team "geling: and playing together. Leading by example is a good start and the fact that ego was checked at the door with management and the players saying all the right things in the heat of celebration, this team could be special.
  21. Neifi, Trachsel, Monroe, Womack, Lenny Harris, Pierre, Mabry, Izturis, Bowen, Bynum, Macias, Rusch What is the ratio of how many games the good list won as opposed to the bad list lost? I would venture to guess that the good list has a higher ratio
  22. Southwest has a hub in Phoenix. Not a big one but a hub nonetheless. The tickets on Ebay are seriously cheap too. Trouble is that no one I know in So Cal can go! :(
  23. who is that in your av Chris?
  24. interesting to see that Hill is generally sitting at 91 on the fastball. Ramping it up because he knows he doesn't have to have anything in the reserve?
  25. Him and Ohman seemed up to some tricks last night on the news
