  1. Tyler Zombro and the pitching infrastructure. Are keys to These moves . The Run prevention component, , was ahead of the league in 15-16. Over the past 4 plus years .The Cubs” like the Astros in 13-22, have become “ fast followers “ , with large funding for personell ( FO/ T and D and tech , bio med and coaching expenditures , ) with matched funding for facilities and tech . Cubs have bridged gap and would argue Zombro and a couple others Are in the “ bleeding edge “ category. I think Matt Trueblood needs to lend his expert's lens , to a specific piece on how these areas are shaping an ongoing sustainable roster build .
  2. Without Trying to claim victim status . My wife and I have had some health issues we are working through . ( older by the day lol ) Matt Trueblood and his Socratic style , data driven essays , hit , like when I weekly , looked forward to my Sporting News arrival as a youth . it’s not the promise of a perfect solution . But the contextual what if’s , that are so creative and fun I put you above the Athletic , which I enjoy also . Thanks and please keep them coming .
  3. Rich Hill light ? Leaning into a more effective use of pitch’s and pitch mix . Very creative signing mixed with Rea . I believe continual infrastructure hirings, ( zombro ) fits Organizations philosophy of being able to foster sustainability . Quality major league signings are not mutually exclusive . However many forget Dodgers had Turner ,Taylor and Muncy all huge value / development acquisitions, before they spent big . This is a piece that does more than just talk about the player , As you said it gives clues to the direction of the FO.
  4. How much has been spent on this years IFA class . How much is left . What is the penalty for signing Qualifying FA , as it relates to IFA . Hmmm
  5. I have long thought , ( first stimulated by one of your earlier pieces) that the Friars were a solid match . The consolidation of War and roster space makes sense . It will take a strong will On both sides to pull off a transaction of this potential magnitude. Leaning into the pros , of A raised floor and ceiling for the Cubs and better roster balance , against less potential future value , makes for a fascinating quandary . Padres would be perceived as resetting a bit and have less present certainty. Cease and Suarez ? Amaya Wicks Cassie ….
  6. He gets on base . Above average at third and second . When healthy strong base runner and stealer . I agree this is a depth improvement. I appreciate the data specific layout , in these areas . Value in low dollar layout , that keeps flexibility for pitching improvements.
  7. Love this part of the game . I did not know d positioning was such a Brewer strength . Mr Trueblood , how many wins can be added ,through these coaching and development additions . , ( d positioning , base running runs , catcher framing ) .
  8. This is One of my favorite topics and reasons , for following the team. Development of players , providing an environment conducive , to achieving, what you are talking about , This is a clear priority and micro focus of the Cubs Infrastructure expenditures. I believe your argument and for those in the comments are valid . I am biased having started coaching a QB after he played zero minutes on the frosh team . At 5”4 our varsity HC told me I was wasting my efforts . ( I was varsity OC and QB coach ) Two years later and after an amazing amount of targeted drills and a total strength and cond. overhaul . He was given one scholarship offer and 4 years later was the first pick in the NFL draft . I have a ton of personal data to validate , how drastically the development process , can create the “ over performance “ affect. MLB athletes, are further developed, than HS athletes , in many ways , but as the MVP machine and The Swing Kings articulate. This is becoming much more common in MLB , and the Bio Mechanical and Motor learning principles carry over . Motor preference is real thing ( my experience) and they are leaning into it . Sorry for the length . I really just wanted to buttress your theories and examples . I love this platform .
  9. Thanks for the leg work and melding price , with “ pitch mix fit “ . The research and creativity are stellar. Thankful they have options . Allows us “ closet acquisition executives” to GM at home kudos .
  10. , I believe they will broach it during the season , after both parties get a feel for situation as is . I agree with odds , as stated . But I think of things go well , FO will approach him .
  11. I love forward , and creative value thinking . Interesting at the very least . Kicking the tires would be prudent .
  12. Do you believe all the analytics / development oriented coaching hires . Have led to leaning into even a greater desire , to lean into “ value acquisitions” .
  13. I had not thought of that possibility. In addition to that hopeful thought . It seems as if adding Rea., opens the possibility of Assad /Wicks , plus position prospect and …, for a consolidation of WAR pitcher . Do you believe that type of move , plus a leverage reliever signing could fit in said budget . Thanks for opening the doors .
  14. This seems to fit with the trade of Bellinger and their multiple team source statements about utilizing monetary avenues. Both FO and Manager have articulated a need to deepen pitching , in both starting and reliever genres . Your premise of different buckets , goes back to Epstein days .
  15. I see both sides of this type of transaction. Something I have taken from reading Mr Trueblood . Is to expand my view of what a successful trade can look like . I would love every Cub trade to look like the fantasy transactions I came up with in the losing 70’s lol . I love the creative process , stimulated by this sites content and comments .
  16. More moves coming . Build in the aggregate , especially the pen . I enjoy the articles and the comments as it plays out . The process is what I enjoy most , in following the team that spawned , Hack , Caveretta and Hartnett .
  17. I was coaching a future 1-1 in the NFL draft in HS at this time . I reference that because the coaching consumed time , that kept me more cursory in my Cub following , Great context and I had forgotten this sequence . Your ability to widen the view , helps enhance my appreciation of pre - nuclear Sammy . Your desire to put best light on most people . Also allows for a more honest view of a person and their inevitable ups and downs . We all need forgiveness and only the most self righteous , feel above granting it . A lot here in this piece . Thanks for the diligent work .
  18. The amount of work put in on this site , makes north side a comprehensive resource .Thanks again . I love these value play pieces .
