  1. Do you believe all the analytics / development oriented coaching hires . Have led to leaning into even a greater desire , to lean into “ value acquisitions” .
  2. I had not thought of that possibility. In addition to that hopeful thought . It seems as if adding Rea., opens the possibility of Assad /Wicks , plus position prospect and …, for a consolidation of WAR pitcher . Do you believe that type of move , plus a leverage reliever signing could fit in said budget . Thanks for opening the doors .
  3. This seems to fit with the trade of Bellinger and their multiple team source statements about utilizing monetary avenues. Both FO and Manager have articulated a need to deepen pitching , in both starting and reliever genres . Your premise of different buckets , goes back to Epstein days .
  4. I see both sides of this type of transaction. Something I have taken from reading Mr Trueblood . Is to expand my view of what a successful trade can look like . I would love every Cub trade to look like the fantasy transactions I came up with in the losing 70’s lol . I love the creative process , stimulated by this sites content and comments .
  5. More moves coming . Build in the aggregate , especially the pen . I enjoy the articles and the comments as it plays out . The process is what I enjoy most , in following the team that spawned , Hack , Caveretta and Hartnett .
  6. I was coaching a future 1-1 in the NFL draft in HS at this time . I reference that because the coaching consumed time , that kept me more cursory in my Cub following , Great context and I had forgotten this sequence . Your ability to widen the view , helps enhance my appreciation of pre - nuclear Sammy . Your desire to put best light on most people . Also allows for a more honest view of a person and their inevitable ups and downs . We all need forgiveness and only the most self righteous , feel above granting it . A lot here in this piece . Thanks for the diligent work .
  7. The amount of work put in on this site , makes north side a comprehensive resource .Thanks again . I love these value play pieces .
  8. Thank you for delving into this edge of improvement, that is not well known or covered . The cumulative efforts in these edges provide wins . More importantly it’s good to do good. It’s important to validate and redeem more than one area of talent , in sport or life. I pray you see that your work is valued .
  9. So the arm slot change was a result of an instructed mechanical change and not compensation to an injury ? If so , The potential pitch combination suggestions and additions, make great sense . I made a commitment to this site , in large part because of your efforts and talent . These pieces are so thought provoking and enhance the joy in following the team . Keep up the steady excellence . I look forward to next one .
  10. Merry almost Christmas. This is an early present . You think like a developmental analyst . As a former coach, the specificity in terms of a particular set of player data , or transactional characteristics as it relates to undervalued skill sets , is astounding enough . But I really sign up for the style of thinking your writing promotes . The Why . How do we push the parameters of possibility, to piece the roster puzzle together . Why this and not this . You have a gift .
  11. “The Berlin defense “ it is not . But the chess analogy plays well . Along with acquiring with undervalued assets, driven by Developmental possibilities. This landscape of fluid, game theory based interactions , seems to explain how Hoyer and many value driven , roster builders operate . You are 3 moves ahead of me as usual .
  12. He seems to have a Rich Hill light vibe . I think people ignore the means and development history of vet pitchers , to change and improve their profiles . The past 10-12 years has fostered many examples . Fitting the roster puzzle together is the key . Reading your stuff is like adding chapters to the “MVP Machine “ . kudos
  13. Amazing piece and a timely reference. Well done and the type of contextual writing , that is your forte .
  14. Lots of creative options available . You make a solid argument for moving with pace . Value plays can be found as the market plays out , but threading the needle is tricky . Perceived certainty can indeed necessitate a quicker move . There is a 1 to 1 ratio between your work and my enjoyment of the off season . Kudos
  15. Is the delivery change initiated by a timing change in the lower half ? Do you have a background in Bio Mechanics ? You use data , with images to reverse engineer a hypothesis. I have always enjoyed your work , but in the past year , it seems to be even more insightful. Thanks
  16. Love the detailed , bio mechanical approach to this piece . Runs saved or gained on the margins of minimal expense, are gold . We appreciate the detailed work .
  17. Solid analysis. I was wading through this topic with my sibling last Eve . Side note , I referenced the value of caretaker status , with pieces like this . As a basis for said claim. I believe ( possibly foolishly ) that the Cubs have value in Bellinger , that would not have been there , if he opted out . Trade return ( with an adjacent move ) or a 4 win plus year, from Belly . Could move the Cubs closer to the Holy Grail , 90 win number .
  18. Such a variety of ways to accrue value . As a long time coach , I appreciate the specificity you bring to your conjecture . The Cubs seem to have a good track record with multi pitch hurlers , and therefore ability to use diverse attack plans . Informative and thought provoking per usual .
  19. Matt T is the reason , I am becoming a caretaker . . Above comments have merit, MT brings value based thinking , from various sides of roster building . pitching brings value and in some ways , doubles down on defensive value .Quite an interesting and thought provoking piece .
  20. How much time does it take you to research and write a piece like this . Since the first time I stumbled onto your work , it struck me as unique version of Neyer meets Maddon at the SABR convention . I appreciate how much targeted effort it must take .
