  1. I didn't know there were any more of you optimists around. I hope you're right, but I have trouble believing this team can sweep anybody. I know this board thinks i'm nuts or borderline trollish but I saw something in the Cubs dugout the last game (with the Sox) that tells me this team is ready to start winning.
  2. states simply. 3-3 is a whole lot better then 0-6. I see improvement. It might be small but I see it. how about 1-3 in their last 4 games? You're picking arbitrary groups of games to make it seem like there's improvement...there's not. I am picking numbers that show improvment. I just wish to look for improvment. Where as you're looking to prove a point which is lost on me. It's hard to correct a team that had played so bad. When all thing are not working it''s hard to plug the holes because there everywhere. But I see the offense gaining momentum and confidence along with the pitching staff. The pen needs the starters to go further for them to become effective. Putting runs on the borad early will be a definate sign this team is getting better. I'll be watching to see if this is true. We'll see.

  4. The Cubs will go in there and take care of business. I believe that they will take the series and will be in a good spot to sweep them. The Sox were all about going about you business of winning. I believe that the Cubs picked that up and will roll with that to a 4 game winning streak into Atlanta. 2 out of 3 in Altanta would be great and then retobution time against the Reds.
  5. I agree Hendry has some work to do. This team isn't perfect. But it's not as bad as people on this board make it out to be. Just getting one win in the south side was a good boost for this team. Pathetic? maybe, but you have to start somewhere.
  6. Those that dwell in the past have no future. I say the Cubs will be 3 games below .500 by June 1st. I watch the game yesterday and actually like what I saw. It's not over.!! I can understand not dwelling on '05. But, the games that have already been played this year cannot be considered "past" since they still count in the overall standings. Not only do they count in the overall standings, they count negatively towards anything they do the rest of the way. Only the KC Royals have scored less runs than the Cubs. KC has scored 154 to the Cubs 156. The Cubs have played 2 more games than the Royals. So, unless KC gets shut out or only 1 run combined over those two games, the Cubs will officially be the worst team in the league at scoring runs. And when you think about how bad KC is, how bad Pittsburgh is and how young Florida is, it doesn't get much more pathetic than this. Funny you bring up Florida. That's as good as any place to begin getting players hot. Jacque Jones opposite field homer off a left handed pitcher. That might just be "lucky" or it might have lite a light on how to hit lefties. This teams offense is going to get hot and wins will begin coming in. Am I saying there going to the world series? No exactly. I am saying it's May 22 and this team has it's best baseball ahead of it. The White Sox series showed the Cubs, to me IMO, the top team in baseball. It showed what a team does to win day in and day out. That has to rub off on a young team. You know a good team when you see it. It imprints and rubs off on you. What the Cubs do from here on in will reflect that. One thing about the 'sucker punch'. M. Barrett was wrong. I believe everyone argees. But the Cubs team went into battle. They looked at the Sox during the fight and it became a us vs. them situation. That has to help this team. Die hard people Die hard!

  8. Hmmm...yeah...that's not true. Sun. 14 San Diego L 9-0 15-22 Hensley (2-2) Hill (0-3) Tue. 16 Washington W 4-0 16-22 Zambrano (2-2) Hernandez (1-5) Wed. 17 Washington W 5-0 17-22 Marshall (3-1) Day (2-4) Thu. 18 Washington L 5-3 17-23 Ortiz (1-4) Wood (0-1) Cordero (4) Fri. 19 at Chicago Sox L 6-1 17-24 Buehrle (5-2) Maddux (5-3) Sat. 20 at Chicago Sox L 7-0 17-25 Garcia (7-1) Hill (0-4) Perspective: The Cubs have 5 wins in their last 23 games...good for a .278 winning percentage. If you check that, you'll find that 5 out of 23 is a .217 winning percentage. I stand corrected I was counting todays game as a win people. That would be 3 losses 3 wins the last 6 games. I'm not even talking about the last 23 games. My question is why look? There is no reason. I hope Z can reset/reboot the Cubs team today.
  9. Yes you are being very negative. BTW.....you see the fairies and elves too?
  10. Nice prespective there, Joe Morgan. Ahahahahaha. Zambo. Not familur with that saying being attached to J Morgan.
  11. So here we are in the darkest days of the Cubs season and the darkest streak the Cubs have gone through for quite a while. As the voices and calls for firings up and down the management chain increase it doesn't help the players on the field. The current players still have to go out day-in and day-out and play the game they get paid well to play. For them I will support the team and hope to see .500 again this season which looks like an impossible feat considering things as they are. The Cubs are so completely bad right now I don't have the writing ability to describe it. I do believe Zambo will go out tomorrow and get a win for us (I hope they let him bat). Perspective : the Cubs have played .500 ball the last 6 games. A bad loss to the Sox still counts as one loss doesn't it? Teams are not as bad as you think they are when there are losing and not as good as you think they are when their winning. Hang in there guy and girls of Diehard cub fandom.
  12. Date this quote was first used by a Cubs fan: April 1, 1909. Saying it is different then saying it and believeing it. I believe it.
  13. I cannot bring myself to feel as you do. If the Cubs win the World Series and Dusty is the manager then so be it. Last I looked it wasn't the Chicago Bakers, it was the Cubs. I have to much history as a fan to hope for that. Things will work out. Have Faith.
  14. I second the motion. Okay, Saaawks
  15. I actually had an opportunity to go to Sunday's game with a friend of mine. If the Cubs were a better team, I would have been willing to do so. But $75 to see your team get hammered in enemy territory is not how I roll. Here's hoping I'm wrong. I would have went. My Cubbie thich skin can handle anything a Sox fan can through at me. A win would be so sweet. This series , as of right now, might just be our playoff/World Series games this year so enjoy and hope our boys play the game hard.
  16. I would love to go to todays game though. That would be cool.
  17. I remember doing that. Somehow it didn't translate to real life. But then again no simulated game does.
  18. Yeah the word "warning track" doesn't seem to apply with this line-up.
  19. Soapy, What else can we do? I predicted the Red Sox come back over the Yankees in 2004. I good friend at work from Boston was asking me if he should watch game 5. I told him I'd watch my team to the bitter end. I told him "you could be on the edge of one of the greatest come backs in baseball history". He watched and watched again. He'll never think that way again. Now are the 2006 Cubs the 2004 Red Sox? No, not even close. The Cubs have a lot of little indians in the line-up but no big chiefs. We need a big chief. Hopefully Hendry can find one. Tony Womack is just another little indian. I don't have any answers for the Cubs right now. But it's still May 19th. It's early.
  20. They just lost a series to the D-Rays down here in FLA. They might be slumping. I hope the Cubs take the first game of the series. The series is much more important to the Cubs then it is the W. Sox. I just hope the Cubs don't get swept out of the south side. This year, as early as it is, would be a tough pill to swallow right now. Here to the Cubs showing some guts and playing as hard as they can.
  21. I'm with you sword!! Good enough Ramirez! Make 'em pay Juan. LET'S GO CUBS!!! LET'S GO CUBS!!! LET'S GO CUBS!!!
  22. "Like a gladiator." Isn't that considered a bad word here?
  23. So what the hell happened? updates please!! did Ronny walk?
  24. Make 'em pay Ronnie! LET'S GO CUBS!!! LET'S GO CUBS!!! LET'S GO CUBS!!!
  25. When was the last time the Cubs came back from a 5 run deficit? If only Fred was here. I wish the Cubs would show some balls and make a comeback. Everytime they get down early it seems they just go into a shell and give up. Hendry needs to find guys with FIRE! and INTENSITY! No he needs to learn what OBP stands for and apply it.
