  1. I have Cubs knick knack placed around my Cub room and office. If the Cubs are losing I turn them and adjust them. I have a new Cubs flag outfront of my house and touch it/adjust everyday for luck.
  2. Optimisum in a thread. Kind of nice after the month of May. As always go Cubs!!
  3. Sounds like a pretty good place to start playing good baseball to me.
  4. I'm just asking for well played baseball. A nice win. Not a tear-your-heart-out type losing that was the month of May. Good to read. I'm not alone in my hope. I can care less about then number and odds. I'm a Cub fan for goodness sake the light might have gone out and all hope might have been lost but suddenly things started up again. You're not dead until you're dead.
  5. A very realistic approach. If they did in fact keep up such a pace, they'd alos find themselves in the WC race, which is much more realistic, IMO. Great point about the WC. I hate admitting to watching the WC race until the divsion is out of reach, but with Pujols out ya' never know. Lets not forget Lindsey Jacobellis, she's the USA's snowboarder that just had to keep upright and the gold was hers. Well she got cute and tried to do a snowbaording trick and landed on her..aa...brains and lost the gold. Point is keep in the race and keep racing. Ya never know when the leader might fall.
  6. The Cubs could be 40 and 40 on June 28th. I realize that they would have to play some very good baseball. It seems that have begun to figure somethings out and not press so much. Basically let the game come to them. J. Jones has been very good. Barrett has been great since the punch heard round the world, he'll be missed. Our pitching staff has been hot and cold. If we get quality starts and the O still gives them 3 to 4 runs we have a good chance. Also, The teams we play are the darn near the best in baseball with the Tigers, Twins and W. Sox. But the Cubs almost swept the Best NL team at home. 0.500 is a good long term goal for right now. Short term is the next game, inning and pitch.
  7. It's good to see the Cubs win some games. Yesterdays attempt at a sweep in ST. Louis was a good see-saw affiar with the Cubs coming up short. But they battled back after being down. This is a good sign. Yesterdays loss was on the pitching staff. So the Cubs take 2/3 from the Reds and the Cards. ***If the Cubs win each series in June (Taking 3 out of 4 vs. the Reds and the Brewers) The Cubs would be back at .500 by June 28th. *** IF is a huge word and probably spoken to often in Diehard Cub fans circles but the season is what it is. Here's to watching some much better baseball. Also, I get the feeling Dusty leaned on his coaching staff and the players are responding. IMO
  8. And I don't think that is anwhere close to a realistic request. Yeah I cannot agree with that. (agreeing with Goony?) Spending $250 Mil. just to spend it doesn't seem like a good idea. You cannot buy championships. Owners have tried and fail. Thats why they play the games.
  9. If that is Dusty's strength, then the Cubs could get the exact same manager for about 4.5 million cheaper. agree
  10. A World Championship is always, always earned. Period.
  11. IMO I disagree. I believe Dusty says what he says to satisfy the media but doesn't really believe that garbage. I mean he uses the dialog from "Bull Durham" to a tee. I see it as almost sarcastic and most fans take it literal. The quote about "clogging the bases" is so taken out of context that it sounds like Dusty is crazy. If you honesty believe he sits in the dugout and trys to get his batters to, strikeout, not take walks, and baiscally not try and get on then your crazy. The mysterious thinking about Dusty has lead people to the wrong conclusion. If he's such a "let the player play" type then why blame him for a Neifi bunt in the 9th? Why blame him for Cedano swinging at the first pitch all the time? Why credit him for Murtons plate approach. Can you credit him for the better defense see by T Walker? What about JP's 2005 carry over OBP slump? You blame the manager for things he cannot control and don't give him credit for things that he can control. Dusty is not perfect no manager is, but don't write and tell me that he's all for losing. That he enjoys the long nasty month of May 2006. I have been critcal of Dusty because he sit on his arse too much IMO. He should interviene sooner aka pitching etc., but I bellieve a pitching coach is sitting right next to him. Dusty allow players to play the game. I blame the players for not holding up there end of the bargin. I blame the players as a whole for not being accountable to the fans, the manager and the organization and playing to their highest level. Dusty treats players like men and they should act accordingly. I don't believe they are holding up their end of the deal.
  12. Cubs win 7-2. Picks to click Am Ram and Cedano and Maddux.
  13. Couldn't agree more. Of all seasons to get your staff healthy it's this one. Why not allow them to take the time and gear up for next season. Maybe win some games this year and gain some confidence. It was good to see Woody go out there and be smooth for the win. Get the other players not to force things and this team might climb out of the horror that is May. Getting back to .500 is not an impossible goal. It should be the goal for this team. That and getting healthy. There's always trying to go for .500 before the break too. Not saying it'll happen, and I'm not saying we're winning anything. I just refuse to play the "gear up for next year" game. I want to see us go on a hot streak. I like your fight. Check back a couple of thread pages and look up 5 stages of a death of a season. You are in the denial phase. The current team might real off a couple here and there. Don't get me wrong I'm watching no matter what but I'll be looking for good games from Cedano, Murton and good pitching from the key long term players for the team. The "Heal and Deal" phase of the season is upon us boys and girls.
  14. Couldn't agree more. Of all seasons to get your staff healthy it's this one. Why not allow them to take the time and gear up for next season. 15. I threw a remote control a the screen; the screen didn't break but the remote did. Does that count? I broke my remote into about 30 pieces during the eighth inning of Game 6. Funny, I drank about 30 beers. yep!
  16. That's a no win situation... unless he's discussing his departure. Other then that is all spin for Hendry and Dusty. Just like the Firehouse discussion isn't?
  17. Rock bottom for 2006 is being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. I have the blinders on and a huge glass of blue cool ade (along with an Old Stlye).
  18. Tony Womack = 2 year extention for Dusty. Good logic there. I bet Grud's can be had from the Royals so we can have the "all suck team"
  19. Kenny Lofton and Am Ram for a bag of balls. Hendry is a good GM. He'll make the right moves.
  20. Scott, I have two questions for you. 1. Do you honestly feel that this current administration can make the proper moves to get the Cubs to the World Series? 2. Is it wise to bank on Wood and Prior for next years rotation? Larry, 1. Answer. yes. Not all moves Hendry has made are bad. We're just seeing the negative ones. I don't here any complants about Eyre, or Howrey. Both good moves. But I do hear about JP and Jones. So you have to weight out the good and bad. Hendry got rid of Todd H. for 2 key players for the 2003 run. He has the ability to deal again. Look at the Tigers GM Dave D. The fans were calling for his head a cou;le of years ago. Now hes' a genious? 2. I believe we'll know the answer to the question by the end of this season with regards to Wood and Prior. Give them the end of this no pressure season and lets see where they are. I believe another front line pitcher is needed. An innings eater like Z. This team hasn't been "the team" since 2003. I couldn't judge what it is we have until everyone is healthy. People are getting bent out of shape with the bench players playing everyday and not producing. While Hendry has a lot of tools, I'm sure a crystal ball isn't one of them.
  21. Well you got your "swept". Now sit back and watch the Cubs back office extend Baker anyway. Thus hoping for a sweep was the dumbest thing imaginable for a Cubs fan. Even for a bad Cubs team! http://www.healingdaily.com/conditions/depressed.jpg
