  1. I would call it running scared. Wirtz was his safety net so he took it. I find the Canning news forboding at this point. We all know he will win this bid and sounds like he wants to run things if he is disassociating himself from his duties at Dearborn. Maybe "someone" left just in time...and not McD. Seems to me that maybe they won't hire a President and just wait for the new group to take over and name their own guy. Which means it won't be as drawn out and protracted as everyone seems to think.
  2. Bruce, is Mark McGuire being named the new President? Maybe "someone" left too soon and I don't mean McD. Poor Blackhawks employees...I feel for them.
  3. What, you mean it might have had something to do that they only had three players that deserved a spot on a major league roster? He definately had some craptastic players. 1996 Cubs that pitching staff was atrocious. jesus. What I remember from that season is Trachsel being the lone Cubs all star rep, and Peggy Kuzinski saying to his face on CLTV that he was obviously only chosen because every team needed a representative. I wanted Trachsel and his 2.14 ERA to slap her across the face on live TV. Pure ignorance. I still hate her to this day. What more do you expect from a Sox fan?
  4. Internet brings major change to minor leagues Sunday, October 28, 2007 12:02 AM CDT Nowrtwest Indiana Times BY MIKE CLARK mclark@nwitimes.com 219.933.4156 SUNDAY SPECIAL | SPORTS ON THE NET Greg Tagert's office deep in the bowels of The Steel Yard has a no-frills look. There's a desk, three chairs and a few lockers to store the RailCats manager's gameday gear and street clothes. The most expensive thing there is probably the laptop that sits on Tagert's desk and usually has a baseball-related Web site on the screen. That workhorse computer has become as important a tool for the manager of the defending Northern League champs as a radar gun or fungo bat. "It's a huge difference now, the way we find players," said Tagert, who has been managing in independent ball since 1995. 5. Your contact is incorrect. He isn't singing and he wasn't invited to do so.
  6. Doesn't matter...it isn't true.
  7. I doubt it. I'm pretty sure he just decided to start showing up every day now that the team is in the race. Those tickets didn't exist a few years ago. He probably just has cash and connections. His name is Jim Anixter and he has a large block of season tickets in what was formerly the first row before they put in the dugout seats. He wears the pink hat so that people will see him on TV now that he is no longer in the front row. And he is allowed to purchase a certain amount of dugout boxes directly from the Cubs as a compromise to his losing his seats in the front row. Anixter was a part of the group who wanted the purchase the Cubs in 1982 when they sold to Tribune. They would have probably sold to anyone but him. And yes, he has applied to purchase the team again. This Anixter is a very wealthy individual who had his own business for years. So you're saying he's an attention whore? He wants to purchase the ballclub and he liked the status of being in the front row behind home plate. Dugout boxes took that away from him. Therefore he now acts obnoxious and wears the pink hat to make sure people see him. Back in 2003, FSN Chicago did a piece on him being a superfan of the Cubs.

  9. The Trib doesnt have the article up yet, but I explained a little more in another post. When the article comes out Ill post it. But he doesnt think he deserves to be bood. i see that now. i was sure he was just saying he heard the fans and knew that he sucked, this just blows me away. i guess it's time to start the move to run him out of town, should be fun Right after signing? Oh God, this could really start to suck. things could get really hilariously bad pretty easily. everything will be cool if zambrano can avoid sucking for a little while, but if he has a couple more bad starts and keeps getting booed, who knows what will happen. I'd expect a Lou forced/written apology tomorrow before the game. Mentioning how he's disappointed in how he's pitched the last month, how he plans on turning things around and making the fans cheer for him. And I absolutely can not believe that Piniella didn't talk to him after that and coach him on how to deal with the media after the game. Crazy. Wouldn't that be the job of the Media Relations Director? Z is going to be the next Sosa.
  10. How does he pass the drug tests? Cocaine is on the banned substance list. Youd think with a heavy user he would eventually get caught. They do not test for all banned substances. They can't according to the agreement unless there is reasonable cause. http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20050316141550-27350.pdf See page 6 where it states that players are not subject for testing for any drugs of abuse except as set forth in section 3C...3C defines resonable cause
  11. Sorry but don't you mean stupid Cub fans? You saw the number of votes on that date and compared to the first day, that made it stand out to be looked at more closely. The rule was put into place to prevent just what happened on the second day of voting...someone winning by cheating. And I am not referring to Vance nor Elinore but another contestant that day. Vance, I think you should have won since you were the best one that day and it stinks that you didn't.
  12. i'm sure they're giving each other reach-arounds in celebration as we speak they don't deserve much credit though, as if anything, it's the 100,000 mouth-breathers at FARK.com who tipped the scales (assuming they even considered the votes) Not true...had nothing to do with Vance nor Elinore.
  13. All these changes happened after Vance's video showed up saying he stuffed the 2005 ASG ballot box. Coincidence I think not. There's about zero doubt in my mind that the Vance movement inspired these changes. The spike in voter turnout on Vance's day was so clear even early in the day that mid-day on the 7th (when these changes took place, if I'm not mistaken) would have been plenty early enough to realize the problem and make a panic change toward a zero-transparence process. There were enough of us stuffing Vance's box (giggety) of ballots and enough anti-nsbb types who were aware of the campaign that there was most likely a script running that day voting for someone else. In all honesty, I hope this sparks a movement to take ASG voting out of the hands of the fans. Those rules were in place from the beginning. Decision has nothing to do with Vance...he wasn't in the running.
  14. Their website just came online: http://www.4fanssake.com/ Eric Majewski is forgetting the MOST important thing in all of this...MLB owners would never approve fan ownership of a club and especially not one of the original clubs in baseball. They would approve Mark Cuban first and that isn't happening either.
  15. Ok, I work for an opera company, so I know how divas deal with this issue! 1. stop talking! 2. gargle with salt water 3. drink LOTS of ice water. It will bring down the swelling in your cords. 4. tonight before you hit the sack, steam! 5. and keep drinking the water! Good luck, Vance. Thanks for the suggestions. I've stopped talking. I'm sucking throat longenges like those things are candy. I'm drinking lots of water as well as taking some vitamins and started an anti-biotic in case it's something bacterial. I'm doing the best I can, but considering I'm going to the game tonight before driving up in the morning...I might be toast. We'll see. But again...thanks for the tips. I predict...the judges loved Vance this morning (and his logo) and that he makes the cut.
  16. RedIvyCub is a reliable poster. This guy/girl could be Gary Hughes or he/she could be some unemployed carpenter. I couldn't care less and I'm not inclined to believe some random poster on a fan message board. The behavior of MLB officals is very clear, as they've repeatedly stated that they want a baseball team in South Florida and they've done nothing to disuade Loria from making a mockery of the Marlins the same way he made a mockery of the Expos. I don't care what the person's "sources" say. No skin off my nose, cubinNY. You can choose to believe me or not. Doesn't matter to me. But I know as a fact that Loria is loathed and they gave him the Marlins hoping the whole thing would sink without a stadium deal and to help John Henry get out from under the Marlins. Raisin's word is good enough for me. So how much DO you know (and actually say)? Like for instance, could you tell us anything new related to issues such as Cubs taking on salary this season or the sale? Sadly I am as much in the dark as you for the most part. They are really keeping this whole deal on the down low right now. I do know that they are accepting applications which is obvious to everyone. I also know that Tribune is preparing their package to present to prospective owners. From my understanding, they will try and take the company private prior to the sale of the team which will be finalized prior to the Zell transaction being completed for the purchase of the Tribune Company (lots of FCC issues involved with cross ownership of media outlets right now). This is due to the fact that Zell has his ownership interest in the Sox and as we all know, ownership interest in two clubs in not allowed. John Henry had to divest his interest in the Marlins prior to his joining the group to purchase the Red Sox. John Henry was added to that group to make it a credible bidder from my understanding of things. I also suspect that the winning bid will be someone that no one here has even thought of who will fly under the radar until the deal is close. That often happens. And no, it won't be Jim Anixter because he wasn't allowed to buy it from the Wrigley's 25 years ago so he won't be allowed to buy now no matter who his group is.
  17. RedIvyCub is a reliable poster. Thanks Raisin...you rock.
  18. That is fair...you are entitled to your opinion. He is just a disgruntled Cubs fan like everyone else. I guess one gets jaded after so many years in the business which is why they used to rotate beat writers regularly back in the day. I too enjoy Bruce's work out of all of the beat writers in the city.
  19. Just curious you knew that these emails are screened by someone in the interactive department and he doesn't see even half of them. Ladies and Gentlemen, Paul Sullivan himself has shown his face on NSBB Wrong again...I am a female. So far people think I am Muskat and Sullivan. Pretty funny stuff. But just stating a point...they do screen the questions as they get too many to go through all of them. Someone picks the ones he is going to answer and sends them to him.

  22. When did you meet Sullivan in person? And there is a reason Teddy is off the baseball beat...he isn't allowed to travel. LONNNGGG story.
  23. Where are you getting this information from? They let him buy the Expos to fold them and then gave him and John Henry a sweatheart deal to exchange the Red Sox for the Marlins, with MLB (the other 29 clubs) holding the bag for folding the Expos. Jeff Loria is like the Bud Selig's Grimm Reaper. I've said it before and I'll say it again, baseball survives because it is a great game. It survives in spite of the owners. The idiot in Tampa built is stadium in St. Petersburg and then aleinated his entire fan base. Selig got the City to foot the bill for the Brewers and then mismanaged them into serious trouble. I could go on and on. Loria fits in well with the crowd. Because as I told you...I have sources and very good ones and no I cannot provide you with that information because I like being employed. Having a paycheck is kind of a nice luxury to have. My sources tell me your sources are full of BS. I like being employed too. Believe what you will but if you had an idea what I do for a living, you would believe me. Ask Bruce Miles if I am credible. He will vouch for me.
