  1. it would be quite funny to see cuban jump the brick wall onto the field to yell at umps like he does in dallas. You realize that would cost the club a fine every time he did that. Heck, the club was fined when McMichael made a fool of himself when he sang the seventh inning stretch and made remarks to the home plate umpire over the PA system.
  2. I guess you don't understand the business of baseball then. Just because all of you think Cuban is the solution and want him to buy to Cubs, it doesn't mean that MLB and the owners agree. He has no chance. Do you have inside information? If so please share. If not, your post is very presumptive. First off, anyone with baseball knowledge knows it is common sense that Cuban would not be allowed to purchase the club with the way he behaves. Second, yes I do have inside information for reason which I cannot reveal...like I like being employed.

  4. If Jeff Loria can own a major league baseball team, anyone should be able to own a major league baseball team. They realized that was a mistake. Why do you think the just sort of shoved him to the side in Florida?
  5. I see Colangelo's record as a mixed bag. For example, he had success in AZ, but basically had to be bailed out of the situation because of financial mismanagement. I wasn't entirely aware of that. I remember hearing that the Dbacks were operating in the red when Colangelo sold them, but what was the major cause of this? Just curious to know all the fact about the situation. Deferred contracts and borrowing from MLB to purchase a World Series on the backs of 29 other teams. That club will be paying out deferred money for years to come. It was why MLB started enforcing the debt service rule once again. And Colangelo didn't sell them...he was pushed out.
  6. I think because Zell has already stated openly that he doesn't want anything to do with the Cubs. He is only buying the Media interests of the Trib. Because of this, it appears that the Trib will then sell the Cubs before Zell acquires the Trib assets. Zell isn't buying a single share of the Tribune. It's been sold to the employees. Zell is financing a small piece of the transaction and becoming CEO with a right to buy 40 percent of the Company if things go well. Exactly...you have it exactly correct. Plus the Cubs deal will be in place before the Tribune deal is completed thus avoiding the dual ownership interest issue completely.
  7. Because the Tribune is selling the Cubs prior to the finalization of the Zell purchase of Tribune Company. Since Zell cannot have ownership interest in two clubs (he has ownership in the Sox), this deal has to be taken care of prior to the finalization of the Tribune buyout which is why they said new ownership should be in place prior to 08 spring training. None of the structuring has changed. The Cubs are still under the Broadcasting umbrella. Be honest with yourselves...this team is going to be sold to a Chicagoan and someone with deep Chicago ties...not Mark Cuban (it has more to do with his NBA behavior and not just Jerry) nor Jerry Colangelo as he's broke. Don't kid yourselves, I am sure they have someone all lined up so this can be a seamless transaction that the owners and Bud will approve quickly...and that includes Wrigley Field. I don't see owners' approval without the inclusion of the park. I hope you're right. Watching the Cubs play outside of Wrigley just wouldn't be the same to me. If the Park and the club have different owners, it certainly doesn't mean the Cubs move. It means they pay rent to the owner of Wrigley Field. Still say Bud doesn't let that happen.

  9. Why don't you understand that the Owners would NEVER approve of Cuban as an owner? You are beating a dead horse.
  10. Big surprise about any Arte Johnson article. Paul Sullivan is awful. The new Suntimes writer puts him to shame every single day. Sullivan is just a useless little twerp. I am just curious over the Sullivan bashing that goes on here? What the heck did the guy ever do to you people?
  11. I agree...half the time when a game is on, I forget he is even there. Notice how they are interviewing different people from the dugout when in the past they always interviewed the manager. He has only been on once. Says something.
  12. Seriously?!?!?!
  13. Good choice. You won't be dissapointed. Well, I'm getting a free DVR, free HBO/Skinemax for 3 months, and $10 off a month for 10 months. The switch is just going to be weird because I am so used to the channels on Dish Network. Oh well. I like the way similar channels are grouped together with DirecTV. History, Discovery, and similar channels are from 269-289. Kids channels go from around 290-300, and so on. Last time I had any experience with Dish it wasn't like that. Once you get used to it I think you will enjoy it I couldn't agree more, the groupings, once learned, are easier to remember. The pay-per-view in the 100's bothered me off the bat, it felt like a void in the middle that i had to constantly skip, but everything is basically from 200-300 that's worth watching to me. skip? Just make a "favorites" and program out all that junk I need to take advantage of the favorites thing, but I have just learned the 6 or 7 channel number that start each group. I just punch them into the guide and page up/down from there. It would be hard for me to narrow my field of favorites to any number that would actually make it an advantage. My viewing tastes are pretty broad. That said, I have been very pleased with DirecTV and the service I have received. If they make EI anything like Sunday Ticket, then I am all for it. I know it will cut some people out, but that's the free market at work. your favorites can have as many channels as you want. I just program out the PPV and sports package channels, plus any movie channels I don't get. That's kinda what I was getting at. I get the biggest package they offer to regular customers. The only channels I don't get are the PPVs. So, I might as well just use the regular guide and punch in numbers since taking the channels out that I don't get wouldn't change much of anything. PPVs don't cost you anything extra unless you order a movie. You just hook up a phone line to the box and tell them to make it accessible. I dropped EI for MLB.TV this year. Cheaper and the fact is I live in rare apt complex that does offer Directv...however, I may have to move before the season ends.
  14. As a fan, I should care what this guy thinks for what reason? Because he runs a baseball web site? I think not.
  15. Impossible...there has been no official announcement from the Cubs so therefore tickets haven't been put on sale. Someone is looking to make a fast buck by ripping off an unsuspecting fool.
  16. Ryan Shealy will be the everyday 1st baseman. Ross Gload is a bench player...a utility man. He can play outfield and you take what you can get to remove a headcase from your pitching staff...Andy Sisco.
  17. Look at it from your own perspective...do you or most workers perform better in their positions when they work under conditions where they are terrified before they even walk in the door in the morning? I think not.
  18. Plain and simple...it isn't just about numbers. If Ron had been nicer to beat writers when he was a player, he would have been in way before now. Trust me...beat writers hold grudges...right, Bruce?
  19. We have a winner. No we don't. :?
  20. Wrong, wrong and wrong. 2:55 starts are Fox games and NOT the second half of a TV DH of games. Fox changed the start time from 12:25 to 2:55. Therefore in order to telecast locally, all games on Saturday afternoon that are non Fox broadcasts must have a first pitch by 12:09 PM or they cannot telecast. Don't believe me...see what happens with the first weekend game in Milwaukee when the broadcast schedule comes out unless the Brewers change the time of the first pitch. There will be NO TV. The neighbors had nothing to do with Saturday start times. The team phased out 2:05 starts on Fridays in exchange for more night games. If you notice, there are no more 2:05 starts on Friday.
  21. Only if the Nats share all the signs with him like the Cubs did.
  22. I recall a month ago when I created a post that said that a Tribune exec. was 99.9% sure the Cubs would be sold before the start of the 2007 season began and was ripped apart as a liar and chastized as a "troller." My post doesn't look so bad anymore does it Giles Bros. and Vince the Cub Fan. The fact that I knew of the impending sale of the Tribune's assets before it was made public was legitimate. Anyway, here is an update from the same source: About 2 weeks ago the Tribune started taking bids on all of their assets from potential investors to gauge the demand/value of each asset. The bidding was to last for 2 weeks and then they were going to have a meeting of the top exec's and make a decision before they presented it to the board of directors at the monthly meeting. This all should happen quickly, oncew the decision is made to sell off the assets and go back to its core competencies because the bidders are already out there. Well considering that ALL of this was in the media, I can ascertain that you read all of this in the newspapers. I know I did...known about it all for a while. It was all out there if you just looked for it.
  23. Where do you get tickets, Cubs.com? They go on sale next week and I think you need to call the Cubs.
  24. You can't be serious, can you?
