  1. Mercker's main complaint was about a dumbass Chip Caray comment, if I remember right. IIRC, Mercker's complaint was initially about Chip gushing about the grand pitching performance of Roy Oswalt in a game in which Oswalt gave up six runs. Mercker called the booth from the clubhouse to ask how in hell was Oswalt's outing such a "grand" performance. Stone then leaked the information to the media and then later commented about it on the air. This pissed off Mercker as he felt the whole affair should have been left behind closed doors. The players, not just Mercker seemed betrayed by the media. The story goes, Mercker later confronted Stone about it. Stone in turn once again leaked details of the confrontation to the media and in a way that made Mercker seem much more beligerent than the encounter likely was in reality. The players then wanted Stone and Caray thrown off the team charter. As broadcasters for the team, the team felt betrayed by them and that is understandable. Furthermore, Stone got more sarcastic and caustic as the season wore on. It was clear he held a grudge. Personally, I want no more of Stone. That could of been avoiding if Mercker never called the booth in the first place. He had no right calling the booth. Shows how much Dusty didnt discipline his players. Mercker is one of the biggest jokes in baseball for doing something like that. Could have been avoided altogther had Steve not stuck his nose in where it did not belong. Chip and Merck are friends from way back and it was a call between friends that unfortunately Steve overheard and decided to feed to the media. And the only reason Steve seems to be such a "brilliant" baseball mind to all of you by watching on TV is because they fed him an awful lot of info to use on the air right down to knowing ALL of the signs. That is how he was able to "predict" a lot of things.
  2. Are you seriously saying Dusty is racist? That is the silliest thing I've ever read on NSBB. Yes, I'm seriously saying it, and Dusty has only supported that notion with his words and actions. I have three words for you...pot, kettle, black.
  3. The Red Sox do not release that information.
  4. Photogs don't write their own captions. They do at every newspaper I've ever worked at. Well, they don't at the Tribune. LARGE newspapers have people that handle headlines and captions.
  5. Then you go on to say... I have one word for you...hypocrite. You also have NO proof as to who smashed Sammy's boombox. There is none. And the bottom line...if you honestly think that the last game of 04 was the only time Sammy left early from a game, you are sorely mistaken,
  6. Yea, and David Berkowitz was a great mailman, even if he was the Son of Sam . . . Face it, Sammy's a tool - plain and simple Do adults actually call people tools? I remember kids saying that in high school, but I haven't heard it since then. Listen to the Score...happens all the time...which is why I no longer listen to the Score.
  7. Yea, and David Berkowitz was a great mailman, even if he was the Son of Sam . . . Face it, Sammy's a tool - plain and simple Right. Because leaving the last game of the season early is the same as being a serial killer. The Anti-Sosa vandetta that has happened in and around this organization since 2004 is absurd. Great insight Springfield_CUBBY! Your logic and reasons for ripping one of the greatest Cubs ever is so eloquently presented. How does being the king of Home Run Derby make him one of the greatest Cubs ever? That isn't baseball...and yes, I detested all of that in 98.
  8. Bingo. They should have shipped Sisco back to the minors and let him work on being a starter, where he was most valuable. The Cubs were idiots not for letting him go, but instead for letting him go in exchange for nothing. Sisco was still a highly rated prospect when they let him go (despite weight/motivation/production issues) and could have gotten something in return in a trade. Who says the Cubs couldn't had gotten fair value for Sisco? We all assume that just because Hendry left him unprotected, doesn't he he didn't try and trade him. Maybe alot of people in baseball, didn't see much in Sisco, despite the 6'9. I like to look at it this way...the Cubs dealt Andy Sisco for Angel Guzman. I'm stretching it to a limit, but hey....we got Guzman from the Royals "trash-heap" and they got Andy Sisco from our "trash-heap." so lets call it even, and stop saying Sisco had value, cause of right now, Sisco has no value WHATSOEVER. Angel Guzman? Sorry but Angel has only been with the Cubs organization.
  9. Photogs don't write their own captions.
  10. The column is about how Steve Dahl's son was a co-founder of an anti-Mariotti website. My understanding is that Jay is on an "eight week time out". I dont' think this would have happened had he not lashed out at his employer on TV. Who knows...he may never be back.
  11. First, who said they have to be good? And second, you are wrong...there are a lot of exCubs who are doing quite well thank you. The ones I miss the most...Grudz, Mo, Liebs.
  12. More like WHY is the love for the 'Horn? As confusing to me as the manlove on here for Walker.
  13. Be careful of what you wish for... Meaning what? You think a new owner would mean big change. Well let me give you an example...two words can explain it all (if you know who he is)...David Glass.
  14. I don't like Piersall but I agree with him here. I have followed PK's career since he was a Dodger. He is a butcher anywhere but first base so you either play him or sit him in the NL parks. Not fair to him but then again, it wasn't fair to him not to be on the All Star Ballot in NL parks until this year because of the Big Hurt.
  15. Be careful of what you wish for...
  16. Hate Podsednik...Eckstein I could take or leave but I give him a lot of credit for the effort he puts forth and seems like a decent guy. Bottom line here is they aren't going to change my opinion and I am not going to change anyone else's opinion on this subject. I value more than the stats when it comes to evaluating a player because there is much more to a player than his numbers. They aren't robots...they are people. What a boring world it would be if we all agreed. I just find it sad that because you don't agree that you have fun busting my chops and feeling like big men. Sorry, it's how I view it.
  17. Sorry but Len and Bob were correct. The Sox and the Cubs WGN broadcasts each have their own production crew. So not only are the annoucers different but so are the production crews. IOW, Pete Toma doesn't work Sox games for example. THAT is why when the Cubs won, they showed inside the production truck and everyone was so excited.
  18. He has a home in AZ and a home in IL and he is at pretty much EVERY Cubs home game with rare exception. Well then travel shouldn't be a problem then now should it...sinc ehe does it anyway. Not sure what you don't understand but you claimed Billy lives in Arizona. He is in Chicago over the summer NOT Arizona so thusly he is not traveling.
  19. Thanks for the giggles...you failed to mention defense here which is where Grudzielanek has it ALL over Todd Walker. OPS alone is not the way to judge a player. You must look at the COMPLETE player...but I know how you stat geeks are. Oh and it helps that Grudz knows how to keep his yapper shut and play the game hard. Character guy... What a huge loss for the Cubs when they lost Grudz. grudz is good defensively? good one. and since when is todd walker not a character guy? you have been listening to too much sports radio I don't listen to sports talk radio. It is rubbish. You stat geeks here amaze me. Funny how any game I watch that the announcers for the other team seem to really like Grudzielanek as an all around player. Trust their judgement over you stat geeks. Oh and one more thing...from the KC Star: No-error ball: Royals second baseman Mark Grudzielanek, going into Saturday night's game against the Mariners, had no errors in 46 games while handling 173 chances. Including last season with the St. Louis Cardinals, Grudzielanek had a string of 64 games without an error.
  20. Give me some of what you are drinking because you are completely off on this one.
  21. He runs his mouth enough now and when he originally signed as a backup so don't even go there. Then he really will start the lips a flapping...remember 04????
  22. Thanks...I think you about covered it. LOL
  23. Thanks for the giggles...you failed to mention defense here which is where Grudzielanek has it ALL over Todd Walker. OPS alone is not the way to judge a player. 25. I thought that as well, Bob didn't seem to agree. Its all speculation really because Williams is in Arizonia. Plus, he like Pole for pitching coach as well, he was maddux coach in atlanta wasn't he? Oh, so I just IMAGINED that Billy sang the stretch last night on WGN TV with Don Zimmer. Okay...thanks for clearing that up.
