  1. What in God's name made you think you could buy an airplane ticket the week of your flight for $100? I assume he meant a game ticket for $100. Bingo. Fly to Panama City on Southwest and drive the 2 hours to Tally. Much cheaper usually. Down to $800. We're getting in range, but still a bit off.

  3. Thought about buying a last-minute ticket from Chicago to Tallahassee for the game this weekend. I was going to leave on Saturday AM, tailgate, go to the game, go out afterwards, and head to the airport for a return ticket home early Sunday AM - and just hope I could get a ticket for around $100 or so. Saw the airfare come to $1,673, and decided that I'm better off buying the new TV we were considering. Ouch.
  4. Yes, but he's not starting. Not that it matters, since we'll play plenty of 4-2-5.
  5. I really hope we pound them in Week 3. I hate Bob Stoops.
  6. Immunity from what? Personal records not being stricken? From losing eligibility. There were several UM players who have transfered to other schools and are still playing.
  7. Sounds like the NCAA is going to grant immunity to former UM players to testify against the program. I never thought we would again see the Death Penalty, but we might see it here. Things are going from bad to worse very quickly for the Canes.
  8. I like his approach to leaving Hendry to know the players and make reaches (then negotiate with them) in spite of having fired him.
  9. Least likely sanction to happen, since it penalizes the teams they play. NCAA has stated as much as this won't happen again, but they may limit revenue for the team under sanctions.
  10. Except Hester, who was shown in multiple photos with him. He's a genius. I don't think anyone has ever thought of Hester as being somewhat intelligent. Agreed. I just find it ironic that he's the only one "smart enough" not to talk about it.

  12. well yeah, they probably didn't want to know. nobody's arguing that they shouldn't be punished if the information in the yahoo article is accurate. the question is how severely they should be punished. I wasn't meaning to argue with anyone or disagree with what has been said. I was just finally able to read the whole thing and basically marveling at how outrageous it is . What is likely to be the worst for UM is that after the fight, a background check was performed on Shapiro and it came to light he was an agent and nothing was done about it to keep him away. That's where the admin comes into play and LOIC gets thrown around. Also, there are rumors that Hocutt knew what was going on. Off the subject, but why can't the ACC teams get it right when they buy players? UNC, UM, and GT have all been busted for this recently, and none have even been in a BCS bowl related to the trouble while Oregon, Auburn, USC, etc. are playing for titles. Get it together, ACC!
  13. I can't imagine a team will EVER again get the Death Penalty, but Miami (from what it looks like) will comes as close as it comes to that line. I hope there is someone in Tallahassee with "shoot to kill" orders on Yahoo! Sports team members. I don't ever want FSU implicated.
  14. Try the college football offseason thread. Plenty of chatter there. Didn't see it. #-o
  15. Wow, no one has mentioned the Yahoo! article on Miami and the raping they are going to receive as a result? http://sports.yahoo.com/investigations/news;_ylt=AtfyCfoY9mCDDu.1lwEt.S45nYcB?slug=cr-renegade_miami_booster_details_illicit_benefits_081611
  16. Not sure if the Cubs thought he had leverage to go back to school or not, but he really couldn't - we're 2-3 scholarships over the limit right now, and counting on him to go to MLB to lessen the problem.
  17. Apparently Easterling signed for approximately $200K, according to an interview with Jimbo Fisher today.
  18. I hope so. From Tspain's comment, plus a picture I saw, he looks like he could have some strength and could hit for some power, although of course he didn't actually do so in college. Nor did he steal much. Of course, Szczur was 2 years younger (Easterling is 22, Szczur was 20), and Szczur was picked 20+ rounds sooner. And Szczur we know has basestealing speed/acumen. Most importantly, Szczur has a knack for hitting the ball. Easterling didn't hit much in college. Maybe he'll just show up and be a hitter as a pro. But at FSU his numbers suggest a high-K guy. There are lots of football players who are fast, strong, and coordinated, so they always seem like promising baseball prospects where those same attributes would seem to work. But it's very rare that they can hit. Szczur seems to be unusual in that he can. Hopefully Easterling will be another, in due time. There's more to it that you might be aware of. Easterling didn't get to practice in fall, and didn't get much PT either. I'll leave it at that, but realize that the FSU coaching staff does multiple things that aren't good for players like Easterling.
  19. He was drafted twice by the Marlins, each time in the first 10 rounds (I think). The FSU baseball coach, Mike Martin, said that if he had concentrated solely on baseball he would have likely been a 3rd round pick this year or next. High praise, high ceiling - development, as always, will be the key.
  20. Apparently he was someone who could have received NFL draft consideration. He was a return man for FSU and has good speed; somewhere in the 4.5 range in the 40, if I remember. He probably would have been a guy selected in the 4th-7th range, depending on his season, combine, etc. Not a return man, but a solid receiver who would have received some consideration next year in the NFL draft. Had a catch in 27 straight games for us. Won't be playing football next year for us.
  21. Same here ... Easterling does have some NFL potential, though, and I thought I had heard that football was his first love. That said, he's more a depth/slot return man option, and draft wise, more of a mid-late round type value, unless he really blows up his senior year and gets better football workout numbers than people are expecting right now. From what I've heard from people close to our football program, Easterling is going to sign and is done with football. We might not even have room for him to keep a scholarship, and he's reportedly met with Jimbo Fisher about moving on. I'll keep this updated as I hear more.
  22. If he plays football and baseball, he has to be on a football scholarship or pay his own way. You can't play football and get a baseball scholarship. This happened with Taiwan Easterling (another draftee) with FSU football the past few years, and was an issue with Kyle(?) Long (who ended up at UVA).
  23. And Christian Ponder won't be starting for FSU tonight. Looks like it's EJ Manuel.
  24. The FSU defensive scheme is rumored to be "interesting" for today's game vs. VT.
  25. is it b/c your school sucks so much that you're so offended by the ND no-bowl last year? ND is likely to go to Champs Sports. They aren't locked into any, but that's probably the best offer they'll get and they'll take it. And the most likely opponent from what I've been hearing is whoever loses the ACC title game. The Chick-fil-A bowl gets to pick before Champs Sports, but they haven't taken the ACC runner-up since their title game began. Either FSU or Va Tech would be an interesting matchup. ETA: Although it's probably fair to note that FSU/VT is probably better, and certainly a better draw, than your average ACC runner-up. If the Chick-fil-A does go with the title-game loser, NC State or Maryland would await. FWIW, I've heard that we've been in discussions w/ the Peach Bowl whether we ended up in the ACCCG or not. That was our (FSU's) destination unless we were to end up in a BCS bowl.
