Florida has a LONG way to go, which is inexcusable in that state. They just don't have the players on that squad that they used to have. When Urban Meyer left, they had serious issues. I might be mistaken, but they only had 65-70 scholarship players during his final season. Muschamp hasn't been able to re-stock, and losing Cook and (most likely) Lane and JC Jackson will drain their talent pool even further.

A loss to FSU plus the inevitable Saban to Texas deal that will redefine college athletics. The SEC is slowly unraveling. I never called the Saban deal "inevitable." I said that if it was as large as it was, and if it met the rumored specs, it would redefine college coaching contracts due to the "residual revenue" of the deal. But the FSU win? Yeah, I'll admit to that.

The thought crossed my mind last night that this could bring about some idiocy around Alabama program. Not that I think Saban pays attention to it, but if he found it to be ridiculous, he could always consider Texas. But I don't see it happening.

Is Texas really that much of a better job than FSU or OSU? I am not trying to have a big comparison, I would just think that the money and ability to compete are similar to Texas Yeah, Meyer is 24-1 at OSU (and that's not likely to get much worse, as the big ten isn't terribly tough right now), is originally from Toledo and doesn't even have to leave his state to recruit if he doesn't want to. What's the incentive to go to Texas? Texas was the job Meyer wanted after Florida more so that OSU. But I agree the job is not that much better. However I would say that Texas is more than a few steps better than FSU from an entire Athletic Dept standpoint. Financially they are much better off. The reason Fisher has been considered a favorite is that he is supposedly very unhappy with the university president. Not to mention he would get a very nice raise. Jimbo and Barron have kissed and made up (or at least learned to tolerate each other), but we can't match what Texas can offer in two areas: 1. Cash. 2. A children's hospital for his son. In every other category, we're comparable. In some ways, it's even better in Tallahassee since Jimbo isn't very media-friendly - and interacting regularly with the LHN would be a prerequisite for taking that position.

Believe me, I hate the ACC and their basketball-loving, crapfest of a conference that refuses to dedicate any resources to football to contend with the SEC. I feel dirty even attempting to support them in any way, shape or form. But I do feel the need to SEC bash, because that conference isn't as great (especially this year) as people make it out to be.

Im not really saying this, obviously there are a billion variables. My point was in reaction to the poster who cited sumlin not making a BCS. I said making a BCS out of the SEC is more difficult than any other conference and posited that A&M would have made it out of any other conference last year. Does anybody actually disagree with either? The BCS rankings are an attempt to force rank all the teams from all the conferences against each other. 10 teams get BCS slots but only 2 from the SEC, despite the fact that routinely 4-5 teams from the SEC are in the top 10 of the BCS rankings. You can argue, and i think you did, that there is an institutional bias that benefits the SEC teams in all the rankings, which is true. But since, within the context of the BCS, A&M (or any other SEC team) is really only competing against other SEC teams, the bias doesnt come into play. The ACC is the first conference to send 11 teams to bowls. They had to play against each other, like every other conference, including the SEC. They are the first conference to do this in the history of CFB. Get back to me when the SEC has that kind of depth.

They also schedule conference games to begin earlier in the season. Is that a negative? Are we supposed to penalize them for starting their competitive conference games earlier? I don't understand your argument.

Spurrier's best team at USC lost to a lowly ACC team in their bowl game. They weren't THAT good. The SEC has 5-6 teams that would be great in other conferences. But the bottom of that conference is just as bad as other conferences and benefits from being in the SEC and their revenue sharing.

I have no idea about the validity of this, but it comes from a reputable source I have. He said that Saban to Texas will happen within 5-6 weeks, and the contract will be for $7MM annually, along with 1% of the profits from the Longhorn Network, and a $1MM annual payment for life in retirement. My guy has been spot-on with quite a few things pertaining to FSU. If this is true, it's a MONSTER of a contract that will redefine college athletics.

We'll have to wait and see. All I'm saying is that you (and everyone else) might not be looking at the right things if you're using BC as a comparable game to what we'll see in Auburn.

stuy - first of all, congrats on FSU dominating all year long. Well deserved to get to the title game. I believe you will beat Auburn, but my big fear if I'm Fisher is how to simulate Auburn's running game in practice. The Noles haven't seen anything like it, and you don't necessarily want your defense learning on the job in a deal like this one. I'll be cheering for your boys, as I am more than tired of the SEC. Not that worried TBH. From what I understand, some of our athletes who are in waiting are more than gifted enough to simulate the speed and size that they'll be facing. As someone else who has endured a decade of mediocrity after much dominance, I hope you get to experience this again. It's a whole bunch of fun, moreso than I had remembered. Not having to worry about a win from week-to-week makes the football experience a whole lot less stressful.

FSU gave up 17 TDs this season, and only 10 were from the 1st string D. Of those 10, 4 came against BC. In other words, the 1st-string D gave up 6 TDs in 12 games. I don't care what type of a schedule you play, that's impressive. And, ESPN and others keep harping on the BC game due to their focus on the run and their success against us. While that seems to make sense, it doesn't take into account the personnel and scheme changes we made immediately following that game. That having been said, Auburn's personnel is much different from what we've faced all year. Clemson is a similar scheme, but designed to pass more than run and get the ball to the outside. My biggest concerns are the Auburn DL vs. our OL, and the Auburn OL vs. our LB/secondary (if they can make it to the 2nd level, that is).

I think I would take the under. Month and a half off is hard on the offense. The time off will hurt an offense like Auburn that relies heavily on timing. I would like to think that our offense will take some time to gel, but not quite as much since it's more balanced. But I would take the under because the FSU defense is pretty freaking good. We're giving up an average of 10ppg, and it's really only that high because we gave up points to BC, and we've played our 2nd/3rd string defense for a lot of the season (and they gave up a bunch of points).

Bama, Auburn/Mizzou winner, FSU, and Ok State. Pretty easy decision IMO.

As an FSU fan, I would prefer to play Auburn. Whether it's admitted by the majority of the media or not, until someone directly beats a SEC team in the BCS game, there will always be doubt amongst them over who the best team was that year. But, on the other hand, Ohio State has gone undefeated. If they beat MSU, they are one of two deserving teams from major conferences to make it this far into the year undefeated. No one from the SEC, AAC, B12, or P12 can make that argument. It's not a great schedule, but then again, it's very difficult to get a group of 85 kids between the ages of 18-24 to focus for 14 straight weeks and win all of their games. So OSU should get the opportunity if they can beat MSU, plain and simple. We all know what the rules were going into this season, and winning all of your games (most likely) would get you into the BCS Championship Game. OSU won their games, so they are as deserving as anyone else. Oh, and I realize that we have to beat Duke to get there. I'm somewhat overlooking them, but they play right into our strength, and I can't see us doing any worse against them than we did against UF.
