Am I wrong but has Penn St gone down hill in terms of quality of individual that plays football for them? You used to never here about Penn St kids getting in trouble. Now it seems they are just as bad as everyone else. I certainly dont mean this as an attack against Penn St. I may be wrong. I just remember Penn St having a reputation of being really classy. I can think of several different incidents in the last 5 or 6 years now involving Penn St players. yeah i guess there have been more, but some are overblown. Like recently there were 3 or 4 players cited for underage drinking.... well if that makes them "bad kids" then I guess a lot of us were bad apples in college. But no, I don't think you get the off-the-field problems with Penn State like you do at Miami or Florida State or Ohio State. Penn State's generally are minor and alcohol-related... you don't commonly hear about theft or fraud or assault, though this is an exception. I guess the bottom line is, if you're trying to put together a team of perfect kids, your team is going to suck. To compete on the national level you're going to have to take some chances, and maybe you'll get burned. As for Austin Scott, without passing judgment on the recent incident, he's been an incredible waste of talent. He came to school as one of the most highly-touted RBs to enroll here, and he was definitely more talented physically than Tony Hunt - but Hunt started ahead of Scott each year. It's been rumored that Scott parties a lot and has a poor work ethic in practice and in the weight room, which would explain why he's been in Joe's doghouse for 4+ years. Regardless of whether he is guilty of what he's accused of, there's no excuse for being up at 4 AM when you have a game in 36 hours. Step down from your high horse. Whether it's PSU, OSU, USC, Texas, UF, UNC, etc. there are problems. And they are just as serious as one institution as they are at any other. It comes down to who can keep it mostly under wraps, and who can't.
