    You know the Cubs are gruesome when Fred Hornkohl doesn't bother showing up. Somewhere out there someone started Sabathia and Marquis on their fantasy team tonight.

    I'm going to see if C.C. is available in my fantasy league. Either he's hurt or he didn't study up for the atrocious Cubs offense that he never sees.

    It's pretty impressive to have 3 guys hitting under .225 in a lineup with a DH. Imagine if Nevin's AL numbers counted too.

    Hey, this gives Hendry some roster space and buys some time. Perhaps someone offered a Single A player for Rusch and Hendry is trying to beat that. I'll take literally anything for Rusch at this point.

    There have been stretches where our best offensive players were Henry Blanco, Tony Womack and Jacque Jones. I'm going to the Transaction thread to see how this offense can even be fixed in the next three years.

    I think that kind of an accusation is really hard to prove and, quite frankly, unfair given circumstances and climate of that kind of abuse. A number of managers in baseball could be implicated in a similar fashion (Tony LaRussa comes immediately to mind) who drill their teams much harder and offer a better focus on fundamentals. You're absolutely right. I have nothing more than a hunch to go on. Actually, I would be relieved if steroid abuse was the root of the Cubs problems. That's easier to fix than poor plate discipline and bad mechanics.

    Are you implying what I think you might be implying in regards to roids? I'm not saying that Dusty encouraged steroid abuse. I think that he turned a blind eye to it. The Cubs perform fewer conditioning drills than other teams. It appears that they perform less fundamental drills as well. I'm just saying that they are not a disciplined as most teams because of a "hands off the veterans" approach.

    Does anyone find it strange when Dusty has been most successful? The Giants made the playoffs when Barry Bonds reached a 19 hat size. The Cubs make the playoffs when Sammy was... bigger. The Cubs have been dreadful ever since stringent testing has been implemented. Isn't it weird how most of his strongest defenders have played the worst over the last couple of years?

    Let's all hope that Prior's current value will be the lowest of his entire career. This season can only be described as gruesome.

    Zambrano Prior Marshall Marmol Hill/Guzman That would be an excellent young rotation for next year. Is it championship caliber? Hendry would need to move at least five position players.
