I think that kind of an accusation is really hard to prove and, quite frankly, unfair given circumstances and climate of that kind of abuse. A number of managers in baseball could be implicated in a similar fashion (Tony LaRussa comes immediately to mind) who drill their teams much harder and offer a better focus on fundamentals. You're absolutely right. I have nothing more than a hunch to go on. Actually, I would be relieved if steroid abuse was the root of the Cubs problems. That's easier to fix than poor plate discipline and bad mechanics.
