  1. It's nice to watch Rich Hill become an asset again. It's also nice to see the young kids playing well. That reference to Jesus having a high OBP was excellent.
  2. Let's not throw Cedeno under the bus quite yet. Baserunning and defense are skills that can be taught by repetition. It's not they have to teach him how to run faster. I think the Cubs would be best served by keeping him and upgrading heavily in a starter, CF or RF. I'd take .275/.330/.420 from Ronny next year. It's not optimal but it's efficient for $350,000. He's still young and could improve more than that.
  3. Tough to say why he's been so bad this year, but his ERA, his K/9, and his BB/9 are all below his 10% PECOTA projection, which means he's been worse than the system imagined he would be. I heard a lot of questions about the changes the new pitching coach was asking pitchers to make. Unless Pittsburgh fires Tracy (fat chance), I'd drop Duke. Thanks for the help! It's much appreciated.
  4. I notice that both Murton and Cedeno have hit much better over the last week or two. I saw that Cedeno moved his head to get a better view of the ball. Is that all Gene Clines and Gary Matthews?
  5. The Cubs are making Duke work early. I have Duke in a keeper league. Does anyone know how good he should be next year?
  6. Is it possible that he will take Rusch's spot after he is DFA'd?
  7. He's having the 14th best season of all RF's in baseball. That's in the top half, but just barely. I'd be happy with his production if he were moved to CF (the position he played in the minors before moving to RF because of Torii Hunter), but the Cubs don't think outside the box. Jacque has outperformed my expectations. The 14th best RF is still an average RF. That does qualify as a major league hitter though. I should have said an above average hitter. I'm trying to figure this out. If a player is not above average offensively then he is not a "major league hitter"? Someone who would categorized as "average" would not be a major league hitter? This is what I mean: Most MLB hitters are obviously major league hitters. This excluded pinch runners and defensive replacements. Most hitters will not completely embarrass themselves at the plate or they wouldn't be there. I'm saying that the Cubs lineup is stacked with below average players. I'm not shocking anyone here. Jacque has been a pleasant surprise because he is average. I hope his mediocrity continues. I welcome it. He's a great #3 outfielder. He's not such a great #1.

  9. DLEE will be a big league hitter when he returns, Pierre is a big leaguer. I pray that DLee returns to MVP form. Izturis cannot bat 2nd next year or Lee will have another 46 HR/107 RBI season.
  10. We currently have two major league hitters in Barrett and Aramis. I hope Murton and Cedeno learn to put it together. That might take until 2008. This is why I'm leaning towards overpaying for Carlos Lee. I would pay something outrageous like 4/56 because it would an upgrade. I would let Pierre walk and get the draft picks. I'd move Jones to center, Murton in left and Lee in right.
  11. That's funny because I could probably explain it to him in 100 words or less. You could do it Dr. Suess style: Dusty Baker is a cool cat. He made sure the young batters sat. Hendry did nothing about that. He cleared space for Glendon who's fat.
  12. I was the biggest Hendry supporter in the world. I loved the Aramis trade and I reveled in the Nomar deal. I supported him after they got rid of Sosa and Patterson for peanuts. I defended Hendry against every barb known to man. I had blind faith all the way up through this trade deadline. I knew that he would come through for us. He failed. My faith was misplaced and a gruesome situation has gotten worse. Now I know what it feels like to be a Republican.
  13. That Orlando Hudson grand slam was a microcosm of every Cubs season since late 2003.
  14. This trade can't be judged until we see how the Phillies spend the millions they saved this offseason.
  15. I was at the game yesterday. The crowd was well informed except for some bad booing at the umpires on some correct calls.
  16. Much love to Len for giving props to Fight Club.
  17. I understand you're joking but Derrek Lee might have won us four extra games last year.
  18. Isn't it possible he just picked the guy who wasn't on steroids? (Ducking and running)
  19. Wow, it's dead in here. Everyone must be in mourning about Kerry Wood in the Baseball Discussions thread.
  20. By Izturis you mean Joel Guzman, right?
  21. How about Barrett, Jacque Jones and Williamson or Dempster for Dioner Navarro and Carl Crawford?
  22. This team strikes me as apathetic and fundamentally flawed. That sounds like the manager's fault to me.
  23. Carl Crawford strikes me as a Hendry player. He's young, has speed, power and low strike zone awareness. He would make people forget about the whole Corey Patterson incident. Not to mention that he is far superior to Pierre. I would part with Marshall and Marmol for him but probably not both. I'd throw in Jones or Pierre too.
  24. I'm ecstatic that Good Prior has come back. The Cubs really aren't that far from having dominant pitching next year. I have no idea how they will fill all the offensive holes.
  25. Womack... Bynum... Neifi... Blanco... Nevin... It boggles my mind that a $95 million team is starting all these guys. I know that injuries and suckerpunches have caused some of this. The main problem with the Cubs is that they have five 25th men.
