  1. It's still early but... Was there any optimism for depth after May 1 last year? It's nice that Les Walrond probably won't see 5th on the depth chart this year. It's nice that I don't mind seeing the bench players get an occasional start. I'll take Pagan, Floyd and Theriot over Bynum, Mabry and Neifi in a heartbeat. The entire roster seems stronger. Hendry put both lineups together. Dusty's gone so he'll get a lot of blame after the Cubs improve. We aren't relying on our elite bats as much. It's like Hendry and Walt Jocketty switched teams.
  2. Here's hoping Murton and Pie stick together throughout the length of Soriano's contract.
  3. We'll all laugh in a couple months about how worried we were. It will seem so obvious. If anything, Jones is a lot closer to the #2 spot than Izturis.
  4. I agree and that seems to be the stumbling block. Of course a trade for a good SS involving Jones and Izturis would be perfect. Who's even out there that would be an upgrade at SS other than ARod? How about Jorge Cantu for the Devil Rays? We could move DeRosa over to SS.
  5. This is the Cubs healthiest spring in years. I'll take a gimpy backup outfielder in exchange of an injured rotation. (Sans Z, of course)
  6. ewwww, that reminds me too much of Ozzie Ozzie would make a comment about how only gay people lose. Has anyone set up Tim Hardaway and Ann Coulter on a blind date yet?
  7. I don't care if Prior gives up 10 runs in his next start, as long as he hits 88. Maybe he can be effective as a low velocity pitcher. We signed Maddux for a reason, didn't we?
  8. It sounds like Marquis and Lilly are pitching as well as they will be in July. We did get them for their consistency. Let's hope everyone else improves by epic leaps and bounds.
  9. Holy smokes. I just cant believe that. How long does it take for full velocity to come back? Where's Will Carroll when you need him? I can't imagine anyone is throwing 100 mph already. Samardjiza hit 97, didn't he?
  10. I hope the young players are getting the "Walks are good" lesson. We might not fully reap the benefits for a couple years. Then again, our future position players probably aren't in our system.
  11. The ball made it over the plate so I'm guessing at least 45 mph.
  12. Buy me a keg if Prior's arm is stronger like that Rookie of the Year kid. Those towel drills were not in vain.
  13. I can if you'd like, I'm listening on XM right now. They just announced the starting lineups. I speak for everyone when I say that would be most appreciated.
  14. The new Premium version isn't available until 4/2 Thanks. I downloaded a 24 episode from iTunes and it was almost HD quality. My only concern is maintaining that in real time.
  15. I've ordered the $90 package the last couple seasons and I've been real happy with it. My only complaints are the weekend Fox & ESPN blackouts. The free MLB radio really helps these problems. My question is: Is it worth the $30 upgrade to premium? Has anyone noticed a difference? I have wireless cable broadband, if that makes a difference.
  16. That is the last information I expected Phil Rogers to report.
  17. Exactly-pretty much all the starting hitters have been decent so far (the only one that hasn't been good is Ramirez), and the pitchers who will be on the roster have been good as well-it's been many of the other pitchers who have struggled. Ramirez will continue to struggle till the end of May. If he has a second half like he did last year, I'll take him being terrible until the end of May :D I won't. You don't pay all-stars to show up two months into the season when you might arleady be burried in the standings. They need to play consistent throughout the season. That's a good philosophical question. Would you prefer a steady .866 OPS or .600 in April & May and 1.000 for the rest of the season?
  18. Trade value going dooowwwwnnnn... It certainly didn't go up. We could sell him as a reliever. I'm sure the Reds would bite. Dunn for Mateo. Ask Krivsky if he heard Mike Schmidt's comments.
  19. I saw Perez and I almost soiled my pants.
  20. There's research in Ron Shandler's new book about spring training. It says that a slugging % increase of .200+ is a strong indicator for the upcoming season. So far, Murton and Izturis will improve over their 2006 numbers. That coincides with the consensus coming into spring training.
  21. If this was last year, our kids would be getting shelled in July. Let's get it out of our system in ST.
  22. I heard that Les Walrond has looked good in spring training thus far. Can't wait to see (listen to) Rocky pitch since he's now on the 40-man. 1.5 hours to go!! Imagine another tough decision for Lou? I love it when they have tough decisions like this over oh God, who can we put here that won't kill us. Les Walrond and Cesar Izturis for Alex Rodriguez. Let's remind Steinbrenner again how A-Rod isn't "clutch".
  23. Are the Giants playing a split squad game? I knew that Bonds wouldn't make it but their lineup stinks. Vizquel is the only who could start on the Cubs.
