  1. Fixed. Sorry, had to do it. :D Let's see, you took my words out of context and now they'll probably come back to haunt me. I feel like a politician.
  2. My bold predictions: 1) The Cubs will win more than 66 games this year. 2) Jason Marquis will have an ERA under 6. 3) Three Cubs cancel each other out in the MVP race.
  3. I have to break out that picture during every fantasy draft.
  4. I'm also guessing expansion is a factor. It forces teams to bring up kids who should be in AA. Another factor placing a premium on 100 mph heat. When did radar guns get widespread use? The Cubs are guilty of both counts.
  5. I hope it's not true about Sarge Jr. A lot of players live in Florida because there's no state income tax. Maybe he was just grabbing some regular prescriptions.
  6. Touche. I'm sure Hendry got the most that he could. It's too bad Maddux didn't want to go to the Rangers. We could have traded him for DeRosa. That brings up another point. Hendry's hands were really tied with Maddux's demands (which were well deserved). Hendry was staring at getting nothing for him and seeing what they had in the AAA/AAAA pitchers. Okay, I know you probably didn't mean it this way, but this sure looks like you just quoted yourself, and then said, "Touche." Which is funny. I didn't even notice. I was hurrying at work and didn't even check.
  7. Murton's upside = .900 OPS. I think he'll likely end up as Mark Grace plus 10 more homers a year. I'll take that in a heartbeat.

  9. Delgado is a stud, Marquis? Not so much. True. I'm just advancing a general strategy. You think that the Royals wouldn't trade a lesser prospect for Marquis instead of paying Gil Meche 5/$55? I'm not asking for Gordon, Butler or Hochevar. I feel that Izturis is Cedeno is a glove and a longer resume. At least Izzy isn't Christian Guzman.
  10. 200 Zambrano 120 Hill 100 Lilly 100 Prior 75 Marquis 50 AAA/AAAA Players That's my rough estimate for how many quality innings we'll get from our starters this year. That's 470 more than last year, by my count.
  11. Maddux cost $9 million last year. Marquis only costs $4.5 million this year. I'm sure that Hendry wants to build up trade value and trade Marquis before the big money is due. That's what the Marlins did with Carlos Delgado. This offseason makes the Maddux trade look much worse for both teams. The Dodgers went and signed a bunch of free agent OFs. I would have given up Maddux for Andre Ethier, James Loney, Matt Kemp or Joel Guzman. Instead we got a light hitting SS coming off Tommy John surgery. That costs $6.5 million a year. Yuck.
  12. You saw Prior pitch just a few days after I did then. I saw his last AA game before being promoted (West Tenn was playing at Carolina for that game). I still have my scorecard. What a great game. He was dominant with 10 K's in 4 2/3 innings. He did continue throwing pitches while the umps disputed a home run call (overturned). That probably kept him from getting the win. I'm sure the Cubs didn't care.
  13. That was at the All-Star break in 2003. This is the 2004 cover that ruined us: *snip* I still have that on my wall. :( I put that as my screensaver last week. :(
  14. Welcome to the forum and thanks for all the great advice!
  15. I went to school at the University of Iowa. One of the main highlights were road trips to watch the AAA Cubs. We saw Mark Prior's first AAA game, more Kerry Wood rehab games than I care to admit and tons of up and comers. The depth (especially pitching) looks outstanding this year. I can't recommend it enough. There's even a good view of downtown Des Moines in the stadium. It's weirder than it sounds.
  16. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=14615 Will Carroll talks about some Cubs in his chat. He says Carlos has a "yellow" in his injury risk system. He reports that a source told him Mark Prior threw "very well." A healthy Prior would make this rotation devastating.
  17. or the eddie murphy skit in "amazon women on the moon" where he gets home from work and then every possible disaster befalls him... obscure but extremely funny I think that was Arsenio Hall. I'm getting sick of the Cubs re-enacting an Agatha Christie novel every year.
  18. I'm glad the Cubs didn't guarantee Hill a spot. He could become complacent over the winter. It's good to keep those competitive fires burning. That said, I'd keep Hill in the rotation unless Marquis's ERA is 2 runs lower. And his mechanics are more sound. And Hill is injured.
  19. Ron Shandler's brilliant new forecast guide ranks the factors in pitching wins. Number one is run support. (Even more important than ERA!) Number six is defense. I figure the OF will net us at least 90 HRs, 220 RBIs and 17 assists. I'll trade some extra bases on defense in exchange for many, many more on offense.
  20. I wouldn't mind Nathan even if Wood and Dempster tie for the Cy Young.
  21. This is too good to be true. Derrek Lee would be a top MVP nominee again and Aramis might top 140 RBIs. I have no qualms giving up Jones, Gallagher and, say, Sean Marshall for a year of Ichiro and the draft picks. My gut tells me that would give the Cubs a better top of the order than the Yankees. I actually prefer our rotation too.
  22. I'm looking at the Cardinals offseason and one thing glares at me. Kip Wells as their #4 starter. Did Walt Jocketty develop a drinking problem after he won the World Series? Did he take a month off?
  23. Man, I think everyone really needs baseball to start soon. I can't wait to see what the tangential topics will in be two weeks.
  24. I'll be surprised if Jacque Jones is in the Wrigley home dugout in April. That said, Murton/Floyd off the bench is much better than Mabry/Pagan/Bynum/Neifi.
