  1. Wow, I hope this offense is one Aramis away. I can't wait to see who Hendry snags at SS at the deadline. Then again, that's what I hoped last year and hail Cesar.
  2. Victor Diaz is going to have 3 HR Curses.
  3. and because we'd actually have gotten a real, everyday shortstop. But that deal would have been horrendous for the Padres, which is why it wasn't made. Another Bruce Levine gem, if true. I'm just glad that Hendry agrees with us about the true problem areas.
  4. Let's hope this is the pre-cursor to that Blanco+Jones for A-Rod deal that everyone keeps talking about. Now we'll only have to determine how much cash the Yankees will send the Cubs.
  5. Bowen's value will be hard to quantify. It's hard to visually notice that someone has a lower ratio of botching defensive plays. It's even harder to tell the impact with the naked eye.
  6. It's hard to be a Cubs fan for too long without a trace of optimism. This team will get better after Jones gets traded. There's no reason for Izturis to play in 2008. Young pitchers like Marshall, Cherry and Marmol are developing. Pie looks like a future stud. Tom Wilken has a strong reputation for drafting quality players. The Cubs future is brighter than anyone else's in the NL Central except the Brewers.
  7. Dontrelle Willis was a successful low level prospect when they traded him away. The guy the Cubs got has been awful in rookie ball and low A ball. Point taken, but if you believe as I do, that the Cubs should be sellers and our next chance to make a solid run at the division will be 2009, the trade makes sense. Getting anything is better than getting nothing for a guy that isn't a part of the Cubs long term plans anyway. I think the Cubs can and should make a solid run at the division in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Amen. This team is still in the hunt now. Wait until they get Soriano, Lee and Ramirez playing together without suspension or injuries looming. The bullpen looks better of late. The Cubs also have the trade pieces and payroll flexibility to make major moves. They're on pace for a 20 game improvement. I wouldn't mortgage the future OR hold a complete fire sale. This team is a quality SS away from being one of the top 3 teams in the league.
  8. If nothing else, this trade removes a scapegoat. I hope this makes the other players feel more accountable. Let's see where Lou goes with this.
  9. Bowen doesn't need to throw out 60% of the baserunners. He just needs to avoid passed balls and fundamental baserunning errors. Here's hoping we don't lose any more games because of botched rundown plays. Reducing these extra outs should exceed the OPS differential. Bowen is cheaper and younger. Catchers usually mature offensively later than the average Age 27 burst of other position players.
  10. Hendry did okay getting D-Lee and A-Ram for garbage. That Nomar and Murton trade worked out at the time. There's no NLCS without Matt Clement.
  11. I'd rather trade Theriot or Fontenot than EPatt. I hope this is the precursor to a bigger deal. I can't imagine Eyre or Howry will be here much longer.
  12. I was wondering why Lou pulled Marshall when I saw Fontenot hitting. I'm an idiot.
  13. If yesterday's umpire was any more incompetent, he would invade Iraq.
  14. You gotta love Pie getting his uniform dirty.
  15. Let's hope Pie starts getting those Gold Gloves once Andruw slows down.
  16. Aramis's baserunning "decision" earned the Cubs at least 4 runs. It also tires out the pitcher. Manager controversy?
  17. I love Marshall's MLB.com picture. He looks baked out of his his gourd. Who put up that Jim Breuer picture yesterday?
  18. I'm really, really curious to see who we get at the trade deadline. In-season trades are arguably Hendry's greatest skill. I'd like to see what everyone's priority list looks like.
  19. I pray this is rock bottom. I told myself I'd study for the LSAT's when the Cubs fell out of the race. If they lose today, I'm ordering my books from Amazon.
  20. Don't be ridiculous. There is no end to the ways the worst organization in the history of human civilization can embarass itself and its fans. The next step...players fighting fans. I'm sure that's happened before. Do you remember that Dodgers game about 8 years ago?
  21. Too bad Capps finally took over for Torres. It's like the Pirates looked, found themselves in 2nd and decided to put their best players on the field. Torres is better suited for multiple innings.
  22. Pretty good if the rookie gets lippy with Rich. Battery has a whole new meaning now. Nice. Let's hope this is rock bottom for the season.
  23. Did Soriano see 17 pitches in his 2 plate appearances?
