  1. As long as it's the honeymoon suite like Toronto had.
  2. I don't have time to find a link right now but someone recently researched the cost/benefit of going for the extra base. The benefit overwhelmed the cost. The only reason coaches don't send more people is because the negative reaction is so much stronger than the positive reaction.
  3. Hendry paid $24 for Milton Bradley's production last year. At least the contract wasn't as long as the Wells or Rios contract.
  4. I love MLB.TV. It's great to get almost every Cubs game (except Fox & ESPN blackouts). It also helps that I live outside the Chicago viewing area. I hook my computer up to my TV and watch with HD clarity. I also stream the video on my iPhone while I'm at the gym or the ballpark. It's great stuff and highly recommended. The best of all the major sports.
  5. Andrew McCutcheon is an excellent player. I bet the Pirates are better than the Astros this year.
  6. If you want development time, he's better served in the minors at the moment. And there's absolutely no reason why we can't compete for the division this year. I kind of like how many folks are counting us out. The starting rotation is really my only concern, but if everything breaks just right... The Cubs are by no means locks for the playoffs. I can't see a situation where they're 20 games out at the All-Star break either. The Cardinals need a ton of luck too. They're far less intimidating if Carpenter goes down to injury.
  7. I thought so too. Maybe it was the tools on the scouting report. This is a Troy O'Leary level shock for me. I haven't been this surprised since I found out Hak-Ju Lee was Serbian.
  8. Name them. Yeah, I haven't heard this. Ive only heard that Castro might move if Lee is even better. That still wouldn't hurt his trade value at all.
  9. A rotation of Strasburg, Wang, Jordan Zimmermann, Marquis and Lannan can be competitive in the NL East in 2011. This looks like the last year the Nationals will be a punchline.
  10. They had an episode about the most tragic baseball players. They showed a clip of Mark Prior as they headed to the top 4. #5 was a guy who accidentally took a shotgun blast in the head. Prior wasn't on the final list but he was in the conversation.
  11. Didn't notice this because I don't look at BP, but wow that is a pretty horrible series of projections. PECOTA was better than most of BP's "stats", but IMO it still was not as good as what is now available for free at Fangraphs etc. Plus Kahrl makes my eyes bleed with that unholy combo of horrible-metaphor packed "writing" and of course the other part which could be considered literally unholy. Did Christina Kahrl become a Cardinals fan?
  12. I'm curious to see if Jay Jackson can grow into a #3 starter. Has anyone heard any details about the reason behind his disciplinary demotion last year?
  13. I live in Washington DC. The good news is that this will help $5 walk up tickets stick around for another year. Kennedy has no place near the Cubs roster. I'd much rather have Blanco's glove floating around.
  14. Is there any SP, reliever, or 2B the Cubs haven't been linked to? Felipe Lopez??? I haven't heard about him and the Cubs... Not yet anyway. Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus said that people went out of their way to explain what a bad clubhouse influence Felipe Lopez is. Don't give Hendry any bad ideas or we'll be trading him for Kyle Lohse next year.

  16. Well, don't forget that Santo could fall out of the booth and die on impact, President Obama could attend a game and eat a tainted hotdog causing fatal food poisoning, and the sky could fall. Other than those exemptions, I think you have a great outlook on the upcoming season... I'm not saying the Cubs will go 59-103. That list shows they're far from a lock for 95 wins and a playoff berth.
  17. Every prospect between #10 and #18 on that list has an outstanding name.
  18. EDIT: I'm not being serious at all with this stuff. Sorry, you said you were a Cardinals fan and I don't give their intelligence the benefit of the doubt.
  19. What exactly is it that would cause you to believe anything other than that we will be a mediocre team? Because we're going to have the best pitching and probably the best offense in the division. What? I doubt this. The Cubs had the best offense once this decade, and usually there's been at least 2 better offenses in the division. The odds are they won't have the best of either this year, let alone the best pitching and hitting. The Cubs certainly have a chance to make the playoffs if everything bounces their way. Then again, this team is currently worse than the 2004 and 2009 squads that missed the playoffs.
  20. The end results show the error of judging players by their batting average. Too variable and doesn't measure skill as accurately as other metrics.
  21. Recent history shows that Jim Hendry has given out far worse contracts to people far less deserving. The A's get an upgrade from Miles to Rosales. That's certainly not worth the $1.3 million they ate with Tavares. Perhaps the minor leaguer is a 2009 draftee, that's why he wasn't named right away. I'm certain it's not Aroldis Chapman.
  22. There is still plenty of projection tweaks between now and Opening Day. That said: * Soto is not a 100% lock to return to 2008 levels. * Lee is a year older and coming off a flukish power year. * 2nd base is far from settled. * We're counting on a slightly above average Theriot and rookies at SS. * Aramis remains injury-prone and his shoulder could dislocate on another dive. * Marlon Byrd's bat could regress. * Soriano's collapse could continue * Nady's elbow may not be right all year. * Kosuke could become more of a whirling dervish. * Lilly's return gets pushed back past May 1st. * Randy Wells regresses to the league average. * Dempster regresses a bit. * Zambrano's elbow/shoulder finally gives out from abuse. * None of the young minor league arms step up. * Marmol walks too many guys. None of these possibilities are that far-fetched. Could the Cubs win 95 games? Sure. But none of these will happen and the Cubs would need the Rookie of the Year. I'll be happy with .500 this year, notwithstanding a solid trade. Then again, I was pessimistic in 2008 and optimistic in 2009.
  23. Jon Heyman just said the Cubs are the favorites for Park on the MLB Network.
  24. Another ginger will help people forget about Matt Murton too.
  25. If Nady is healthy, this is as huge an upgrade for our bench as could be reasonably expected.
