  1. There's also the fact that with the mutiny that's building (and will continue to build if we keep slipping) that they need SOMETHING positive to tell us. A new owner vowing to kick teeth in this offseason would sure make the natives a little less restless.
  2. Sigh. If Hendry were as good of a GM as JR is an announcer, we'd be 5 up on the Cards right now.
  3. Hmm, I'm in Southern Indiana but I think I'd join the convoy to help with that project. I can pretend I'm a Red Sox fan for a few hours. :-)) WE DON'T NEED NO WATER, LET THE MOTHER clucker BURN
  4. Well, it wasn't going to work out well Wagner or not. Might as well go for complete clusterfudge
  5. No, you're nuts because you still care who the Cubs closer is at 60-56 and six games back in the division. Don't worry, you're not alone my friend in nut-case-ness. :( If Gregg is a type A, there's no way in hell you offer arbitration because he's going to accept it. Our only hope is that he's a Type B. Haven't lost yet betting on his mediocrity though...
  6. What we're missing is grit. I wonder how much it would take to get Augie. Straight up for Zambrano maybe? :-))
  7. I could personally see Hendry staying around, but not as GM. Wasn't he quite good at scouting before taking the office job and not watching players anymore? Could just shift him to that. I'm not sure what to expect out of Lou. Whether missing out on the playoffs will send him into the sunset, or if it will inspire him to come back for one more year to leave on a better note.
  8. You have to respect Ryan for recognizing where he was and asking for his release. A lot of players might hang around for a pity September callup or something. And Lou isn't the worst manager to hope your 87 mph fastball fooling AAA hitters might get you more than a pity callup either. Or, if you just want to be morbid, he needed to get a jump start on his long summer of HGH injections.
  9. The thing that fixes him is HGH. Which there remains no test for. Somebody get the man a weekend trip to the Dominican Republic STAT.
  10. It would sure make me wish I could attend Arizona Fall League games. Because this would be must see, just not in the way I'm used to thinking of "must see". It would be like buying a ticket to see Joey Gathright jump a car...but secretly Gathright doesn't know there's a strategically placed brick wall on the other side. And Chris Tucker is hiding, waiting to scream "YOU JUST GOT KNOCKED THE fudge OUT".
  11. Same here, almost. I'm always stuck at work every deadline afternoon...and I'm impatient. I purposely stash work away just so I have something to distract myself with. Other than refreshing various sites again. And again. And again....
  12. They'll trade Felix...if overwhelmed with an offer. Just like almost every other player in the game. If the Seattle GM is sending read receipts on emails with "Trade" and "Felix" in the same header, you have to take a stab. Just in case it's Christmas in July. Not doing so is the kind of thing we want to burn an effigy of Hendry for. I'm not surprised that 6 tried, and it isn't really news. The job of a MLB General Manager is to basically be a professional poker player. To always see every hand out...and try not to be too obvious on the bluff.
  13. Not a terrible deal. I liked Hart, but he was playing well over his actual eventual MLB self. It will (please) free up Marshall to start games. Or at least give Lou another quality lefty for his fetish. I'd love to make another move though. If this is it, oh boy, this Central race is going to be legendary. And potentially not in our favor.
  14. Better that he does a Cena "you can't see me" gesture than an all out DX crotch chop.
  15. Sadly my Photoshop skills are weak, but someone should do a picture of that time Soriano interfered with that baseball when we were 5 outs from the World Series in '03.
  16. Sheesh, with his creds you'd think he'd be left alone unless he started taking a dump on the field or something.
  17. Well Sori, the best way to make a statement on this is to go 3 for 4 today...and take a freaking walk. Produce, and you won't be benched. However, I have to agree that if he's in pain you just need to DL him for a few weeks and make him rest. Maybe a little time away will help him clear his head too.
  18. Not sure if that was joking or serious. The INTERNET needs a sarcasm detector. But just in case it's not joking, I have to disagree. If there is one player I don't think we'll ever see on a PED list, it's Pujols. Which is sad, because that would legitimately make him the greatest hitter since Ruth. And I'd hate for that guy to be a Cardinal. Let me put it this way. Either Pujols is and has always been clean as a whistle. Or he's incredibly stupid after doing that Sports Illustrated cover. Imagine the backlash there would be if he wound up being exposed as a cheater. Hate to say it, but I think he's just that damn good.
  19. Not really. Again, it's pretty obvious he must have smoked in the offseason and had then gotten surprised by an early test for the WBC. A series that I wish did not happen and needlessly puts members of our team at risk of injury. The Cubs have stated he's been tested before during the season and did not fail. This screams "isolated incident because of the stupid WBC". I'm not in the least. Public opinion on this issue has been moving towards at least decriminalization for years, and rapidly so of late. The last polls I saw had support for freaking legalization at over 40%. That's right at the level of gay marriage, which of course is expanding again and again on the state level. Like most things in our culture, public perception is way ahead of actual change or the law Post of the year. And we're probably lucky that half the team isn't giving Anna Nicole Smith a run for her money...
  20. We also have to keep in mind that we only have Rich Harden for this year. And we're only 3 1/2 games back in the division. This isn't a question of not messing with a prospect. It's a question of how to get the best we can out of an asset we'll (likely) lose after this season. Such as, I'm not really advocating this, but if were found out that Harden could really dial it up for just an inning or two...then he might be more valuable to us now in the bullpen. Of course, there are probably other considerations (how it would effect his FA rating for one) I'm not thinking of. But I don't think it's preposterous to at least consider it. If things are so dire we've thought about putting Soriano at 2nd, they're certainly dire enough to give a fresh look at our pitching staff and where they best can be used. But certainly for the next month he should probably start, just on the hope that he pulls it together and someone comes calling a week before the deadline.
  21. Sigh. I wish everyone's knowledge on this subject didn't primarily come from the films Half Baked and Pineapple Express. It's highly, highly unlikely that Soto's off season weight gain was just from smoking pot. More likely reduced workouts and consistent home cooking.
  22. Oh, and if we were to find out that Geo hit so well last year because he smoked pot after games...I'll chip in on the first bag to get him going this year. Who's with me? :-)) EDIT: Oh, and after this bleeping game we could all probably use a doob...
  23. Well, it's highly possible that Soto had not actually used marijuana for a month before the test. Especially as, um, portly as he came into camp. Pot mainly stores in fat cells. The real joke here is that his smoking pot is even an issue. Or illegal. From you, alright!?!? I learned it from watching you!! For some reason that made me think of the scene in A Christmas Story where Ralphie won't tell his mom that he learned curse words from his father.
  24. Problem is, right now Soriano would barely be an offensive upgrade over Fontenot. Probably a minus if you figure in his likely defense. Dunn is obviously an upgrade offensively (at least currently) over Soriano in left...but man, the defense. I think what's becoming obvious is there may be no single player/magic bullet that saves us this year. Our only savior may be our division itself.
  25. I'm ready to order a custom Cubs jersey with the number "0" and "Kickme" for the name. "Mental" would work too. I think "HELP ME" would work well too.
