  1. This player is trolling and I like it
  2. I assume the bench is likely 2 INF, 1 OF, 1 C, plus Seiya?
  3. In the CF backup mix with Brujan it looks like. Counsell said they prefer good young prospects like Alcantara, Caissie etc getting regular PAs in the minors rather than riding the bench. Hard for Canario to have success in a bench role. On the bench the Cubs seem to like walks, speed, and defense. These things tend not to "slump" much so if you're not playing regularly I guess they're easier to maintain than a big swing. Could also explain why they went Berti over others. Mastrobuoni and Tauchman were their guys too.
  4. The Cubs and outfielder Travis Jankowski have agreed to a minor league deal. Seems like a guy who can play CF, seems like a depth signing for CF backup since Bateman just got injured and Canario was DFA'd.
  5. That's clearly Glenallen Hill. But seriously, the shoulder patch is throwing me off.
  6. If Ricketts is going to let Jed go into his last season of his contract without an extension then he shouldn't expect Jed to take all the heat and compromise his own reputation when certain things like the budget aren't Jed's decisions. It doesn't even matter specifically whose fault it is. If the Cubs aren't going to put a sensible amount of the money we give them back into this team then i'm just not going to give them any of my money anymore until that changes. Things won't change until we do this.
  7. Gotta think he'll be traded. He was out of options anyways and i believe needed to break camp with the team and stay there.
  8. Yeah, if one of Suzuki, Happ, Tucker, or Busch get hurt then Turner's in the lineup everyday most likely, and that doesn't even count 3B. He has a decent shot to get a whole bunch of PA's.
  9. Projections are about the average likely outcome using data. You run a season 100 times and that's roughly what you'll be most likely to get as an average. Any team or player can outperform or underperform projections for all sorts of reasons. Nobody can predict the future but using data is better than just eyeballing what we think a guy will do. I'm not a big fan of paying 6 million for a 1 WAR position player with limited positions who is 40 y/o but I guess it's better than not spending lol.
  10. Since Christmas this team sure has become a lot older. Prime age guys are expensive I guess. New cost strategy LOL
  11. Nice to have Turner as DH/1B backup and able to let guys like Long, Ballesteros, Caissie etc get more time in AAA. The age risk is big so it's a gamble but I guess the choices were slim at this point. Let's keep adding.
  12. Yeah well below average power for a 1B/DH plus corner OF is a tough sell, especially for the Cubs.
  13. Could be different things, like inflated asking price or can't find a spot for an everyday role. Overall he's a below-average player and 36 y/o. There's no open spot for him on the Cubs to get much playing time so if I were him the Cubs would be far from my 1st choice. Based on the limited playing opportunity at 1B/3B/DH for an FA here maybe the Cubs would be better making a minor trade for that type.
  14. Oh man. Do you know where they said that? I really hope this is all just for negotiation leverage, but Jed shoots pretty straight and will usually not comment rather than be deceptive.
  15. Deferrals don't effect the tax as far as I'm aware?
  16. If the Cubs don't spend the money saved via the Bellinger trade then the Tucker trade sucks. The difference between Tucker and Bellinger is 2 wins, but we lose 3 seasons of a top 10 3B making pre-FA money, plus one of our best prospects, plus Wesneski. 3B was a black hole last year and we have a rookie with hardly any 3B experience plus a bunch of nobodies gunning for the job, and the middle infield coming back from surgery including a 2B who isn't even throwing on the field yet. If the Bellinger money isn't spent then Shaw has to put up close to Paredes numbers for the Tucker trade to not be a wash even on a 1-year basis, and counting on a rookie for that is insane, and it would still look like a stupid deal long-term.
  17. 86 wins? Cubs are trash. Maybe they sign 1 or 2 more bench/pen guys but a couple of 1 WAR players isn't going to move the needle. What an underwhelming offseason. 1 year of Tucker for this trash team is a waste. Every penny of Cody's salary savings is in Tom's pocket right now.
  18. If they don't spend at least 230m i don't even know the point of watching this year. I feel like a chump. Ricketts is taking advantage of our loyalty to fill the stands and his pockets while putting in the minimum payroll needed to give us the hope of a playoff birth. 80- something wins isn't good enough. A payroll of 209m is leaving wins on the table. We pay for all Cubs revenue and this is how you treat us? Eff you Tom.
  19. They don't ever say how much payroll they have left for negotiation reasons. I think they're done adding bigger pieces as they said because there's basically none left. Robertson is a modest piece and they said they're out on medium size pieces too which is surprising but they may be hiding their cards. But maybe you're right. Jed said they were at their payroll limit last year too before adding Bellinger but got the greenlight for extra funds from Tom. Unbelievable. Jed says they're banging up on their payroll limit right now with a bit more money left for in- season moves "like Tyson Miller" etc. They're at 209m lol. A 215-220m payroll is completely unacceptable. Let's hope Jed is just giving his poker face.
  20. Jed said exactly what one expects him to say, besides essentially saying Tom let him go slightly over the tax line this year for Bregman. This team should be like 40 million over the first tax line regardless.
  21. We had no chance, and i'm fine with it.
