  1. Maybe the Marquee crew are getting a bit of a break right after Tokyo and before the season starts?
  2. Having a plus hit and power tool is rare, so if Smith has that as MLB pipeline thinks then that is something, Shaw is the only guy in our system with that combo because it's rare. i don't think anybody knows what his hitting profile is yet because of the sample sizes, so making predictions on him right now is pretty useless.
  3. Brown's command was really rough in Tokyo, I hope he does better this week. Rooting for him, he's a breakout candidate. Cubs already used Brown almost as a SP in Tokyo so it probably doesn't matter whether Rea or him start, they'll both get lots of innings especially in April when lots of SP aren't going much past 5 IP.
  4. What contact #'s are you referring to? It's difficult to assess Smith with such small sample sizes. I agree he's not likely to be MLB-ready yet. It's tough trading a hitter with Smith's hit/power tool combo which are both rated as plus, it's pretty rare as prospects go and better than that of Caissie, Alcantara, Ballesteros. But I guess we don't know how the Cubs assessed Smith, they have more data than we do. The Astros aren't stupid and they sure liked him. The Cubs can draft another Smith or Matt Shaw this year and most years so whatever, it's nice to have Tucker.
  5. Hey nice we lose 2 games at Wrigley too. We got screwed.
  6. Brown's control was all over the place. Yamamoto split was nasty. Start Turner next time vs Yamamoto because Busch had no chance.
  7. His pop-time is terrible.
  8. Rea and Lynn are both below average mlb starters IMO. Ok for depth i guess
  9. Brujan seems like replacement level nothingness.
  10. Yeah he'd need to build up a bit in game action i imagine. . Maybe mid-April would be realistic. I don't think anyone is losing sleep on Brad Keller. There's room for other guys in Iowa too I'd bet. Injuries will inevitably happen at some point and probably by the time he's ready and make things moot.
  11. Yeah i guess the other OF can handle CF in a pinch. Workman is a fill-in option in corner OF as well. I think everyone wants to see him on the team. If he can keep the K% not horrid he has starter potential.
  12. Looks like Brujan is out of options so likely Workman is odd man out. They can use a CF backup anyways. Yeah work something out with Tigers. Might be able to get Brujan through waivers though
  13. The only thing worse than capitalist exploitation is reading your takes about it every freaking day on a baseball message board.
  14. But then wouldn't Taillon need to be optioned to Iowa? I don't know how the taxi squad works.
  15. They're bringing 17 pitchers coming and 14 position guys. The 26-man will have 13 pitchers and 13 hitters. Reese McGuire is almost certainly the backup catcher on the 5-man taxi squad, plus 4 pitchers TBD. Shaw then is for sure on the 26-man and likely Thompson DFA'd as you say. Taxi squad pitchers might be Palencia and 3 out of Wicks, Brown, Miller, Pearson, Morgan, Keller. I think Wicks probably starts in AAA barring injuries and Morgan is on the team.
  16. I think he'll get more than 33m AAV. They didn't even bother looking at any of the TOR SP this winter on a team with only 2 above-average SP. 95% chance they don't extend or resign Tucker.
  17. The goal of Ricketts isn't to be a great team and win the WS, he wants to spend just enough to be a competitive enough team every year to fill the seats and hopefully get into the playoffs and take their chances and hope to get lucky. He's satisfied winning 85-90 games. Signing a huge contract like Tucker is too risky for them, they think they can be competitive without committing all those dollars to one player.
  18. Little worrisome though if his next start is opening day.
  19. Savant says he averaged 92.5 on the 4-seamer last year.
  20. Wicks says he lost around 30 pounds in the offseason via diet.
  21. Happ, Seiya, Nico, Tucker will all likely be gone soon enough, so trades or comp picks should reload the lower minors. RIP our best players lol.
  22. Tyler Rogers is my favorite pitcher. Throwing a 83mph fastball from his shoelaces and puts up elite stats.
  23. Why not Cowles? Shaw might need some more PA's given his performance so far, though I haven't seen most of his AB's.
  24. If Amaya can be a 100 wRC+ hitter and close to a 1.5 WAR catcher i'd be very satisfied with that. Add Kelly and we could have 2.5 to 3 WAR out of catcher this year if things go well. That would be a big upgrade from negative total catcher WAR last year LOL. Would be great if PCA could improve the BB% at least a bit. He has zero walks this spring.
  25. Assad and Wicks look like BORP types with MORP upside, hard to expect them to be much better than Rea/Boyd. Brown is very promising. Horton's arm is a ticking time bomb, I could easily see him turned into a reliever in future seasons.
