  1. I know this is sarcasm because i've never seen Dansby hustle in my life.

Morel's OAA and runs prevented has been almost twice as bad in May as April. He's the worst fielder in the MLB this year among fulltime fielders according to Savants total "Fielding Run Value" stat which uses all statcast measurements. I agree that per the eyeball test he's seemed better in May. Don't think he's made as many throwing errors or other errors. But apparently he's just not getting to balls. He has been unlucky offensively apparently, but he also has -0.1 WAR so far this year. He has been banged up though. Unless they want him to be a DH longterm they just need to keep him at 3B for most of the year to keep learning and develop instincts or send him to AAA. So far in his career he's been a pretty big failure for the Cubs in terms of handling the development of his fielding. Someone as raw as him should never have been molded as a supersub.
  3. If he lesrns to drive the outside pitches the other way or to CF he'll be quite the hitter.
  4. Grab one of the nobodies from AAA at this point.

It's irrelevant to his overall value as an offensive player yes, but not to his development or evaluating his tools/abilities.
  6. Cubs are dead last in MLB in runs scored from April 27 to May 27. In April they scored the 2nd most runs in MLB.
  7. If our starter can no hit them again we have a decent shot at winning this in extra innings again.

Our hitting sucks right now and he's not a good hitter. I think he needs most of the year in AAA ideally. They aren't going to bench e.g. Happ or Busch everyday for PCA. His hitting numbers have always been inflated because of his speed and masks a bunch of his deficits at the plate. Beating out grounders inflates his AVG, OBP, and SLG. Taking extra bases inflates the SLG. He needs a lot of work with the bat and will probably always be below average at the plate with a chance to be average or somewhat above average overall offensively because of the speed.
  9. Not sure i agree. Hoyer has hardly put any money in terms of AAV into SP. Besides Stroman. This same offense was 3rd in NL in runs scored last year. They spent like 28m aav to bring back Cody. They'll come around.
  10. Maybe the hitters will decide to wake up before the 9th inning this time.
  11. Honestly, you play 3B once a week what do you expect? Nobody's launching 105mph fungos at him. Do players even take batting practice on the field anymore with fielders? LOL Seems like every grounder over 100mph the left side of this infield can't handle.
  12. It's not that they're even just slumping bad, they're playing like total garbage. Sloppy defense, terrible baserunning. Looks like Spring Training hasn't ended yet. If you can't hit then at least play the ball and run the bases well. Do these infielders only take grounders in pratice from 45mph fungos?
  13. Looked at the June schedule. No above .500 teams except the Brewers at the end of the month. Pretty easy schedule to make up some ground. We even get the W Sox.
  14. Alzolay is apparently dealing with the same forearm injury issue he had last season. Of note is that he's been terrible since coming back from that initial IL stint, both last Sept/Oct and 2024. I really hope the Cubs didn't ruin him by overpitching him last summer. Leiter got hurt too late last year and Merryweather barely lasted a week this season. Could be random injuries but c'mon. Do better Cubs.
  15. The likelihood that this offense remains near the very bottom of the league in scoring runs as it has in May is virtually zero. Happ, Suzuki, Swanson have been horribly slumping, plus Busch, and Gomes and Amaya can't hit any worse, and Morel and Tauchman have been sputtering. They should all have a better June if they regress at all back to the mean.
  16. It's troubling how this season is turning out pretty similar to last season. Though big summer ahead apparently haha. I still think this team goes as far as the pen will take them. Luckily with additions of Brown, Wicks, and eventually possibly Horton, there seems to be more overall pitching depth than last year, which will help the pen.
  17. Credit to Goldschmidt, Assad put 2 pitches in his happy zone, and one was right over the heart of the plate.
  18. As of now it looks pretty good. Forecast has been changing by the hour though.
  19. I think he's still one of the best hitters and position players in the system in terms of talent. The injuries are obviously the major concern. A hot streak might not be enough for a recall, give him at least 200 PA's in Iowa I say.
  20. They have some SP issues. But the offense and pen are solid. Unlike the Cubs they got back talent for Burnes they could plug into the lineup instead of waiting 5 years for them to reach the majors.
  21. There's too much talent for them to spin their wheels for much longer. If the offense wasn't in a terrible funk in May with injuries etc we'd have won a whole bunch of games. Busch needs a couple of days off.
  22. Leiter knew he didn't have his stuff or command the moment he took the mound.
  23. I'm not talking about stats. I'm talking about Steele looking physically gassed. If you want stats we can point to him having 173 IP last year, which is a lot more than the 119 IP he had the year before, his previous career high. We can also point too the fact that the most ER Steele gave up in a game last year was 6, and he did that only twice and both came in 2 of his 3 last starts of the year, one being Pittsburgh. Not to mention Justin's tongue hanging out of his mouth.
