  1. So seems Boras is losing this round of free agency. I am for the players. But sometimes he pushes too far and this year he is getting burned. I think both these guys could have had a better deal had there been some real negotiations from the start. He set the bar too high for each and now he is stuck. I agree, I wish the Cubs could have gotten him at this amount. And they could have and stayed under the $257M line.
  2. Lived in Chicago suburb until 2022. Had a house here in Az. and Chicago area from 17’ until 22’. Sold in the Chicago area and moved here full time in 2022. Even when we had 2 houses we were not typical snowbirds. I could work from anywhere. Only worked part time anyway. But my wife worked full time. She would get something like 6 weeks in the office and then 6 weeks out. So when she could work from home we came here. But when she was in the office, even if it was “typical snowbird time in Az.” We were in Chicago area.
  3. Nope. I go one a week. Going next Friday. Also going to Cubs/Sox prospect game. Hope Horton pitches.
  4. How does Jimenez get doubled up on a foul pop up?
  5. Agreed. I do think the team is making a mistake by not going over now if they know they will at the deadline. And to get anyone at the deadline they most likely would have to go over. Now, they can’t sign Chapman or one of the Boras pitchers, but they could get someone in the $15M or less range, which would put than at most $249M. Thr cap is $257, so that would be a good place to be if they wanted to add on at the deadline. Not sure if JDM could be had for $15M, but i do think Belt could be. Probably for fair amount less, even.
  6. I will say this, it wouldn’t bother me if they traded Wisdom for some A ballplayer and Bote did make the team. I just don’t see them doing that. But maybe with Counsell as manager things will be different. I really don’t think Wisdom is a lock for this team. You currently have the 8 starters (Morel is either at 3rd or DH), Madrigal, Tauchman and Amaya as most likely making the team unless they are traded. That leaves a whole bunch of guys for 2 spots. To me the last 2 spots comes down to Wisdom, D. Smith, Peralta, Cooper, Mastrobuoni, Bote, Canario & Mervis. I have Busch listed as a starter. Peralta and Smith won’t make it to start the season, if they did make it at all. For me, I would go with Mastrobuoni and Cooper. Cooper would be a nice platoon with Busch at 1st. But I am also splitting hairs when saying who I want more.
  7. I did. 2 yeas back he played fall ball. Went to several of those games. General admission and us old timers get in for $9.00. That team has him, Mervis and BJ Murray with some pitchers too.
  8. I was at the game and they show the speed on the scoreboard.
  9. He would be my choice as well. But Belt wouldn’t be too bad either. And cheaper. That said, I think they are done adding. This is the team, IMO.
  10. He was awful. They were hitting rockets. But one thing I did notice was he hit 95 on the fun yesterday. Did it a few times. I didnt think he threw that hard. Maybe as a pen guy he could be useful. He should not start.
  11. The only way Bote makes a major league team that is not the Cubs (and he isn’t making the Cubs) is if the Cubs release him and another team signs him for league minimum. That would be what the Cubs save. They only save $5M if they trade him and his entire contract. I don’t see that happening.
  12. Is that a thing? I think if he doesn’t make the team by a certain date he can opt out with the cubs.
  13. Wiadom was originally in the line up today and was scratched right before tr Cubs took the field. Wonder why!
  14. I think the only way he takes one more year is if he does poorly in 2024. Maybe OPS+ of a little over 100, maybe 105. And maybe he gets hurt and misses some time and only has 400AB. If he drops to a guy who is only worth $20M a year or less and he is only expecting to see something like 4/$78M, then my guess is he would stay. But then we don’t really want him. If he plays well enough to get the 5 to 7 year(or more) offers at annual pay of $25M or more, IMO he is done.
  15. I doubt that would work here.
  16. But he can get hurt too. I think if he comes close to 23’ numbers he walks next year. If he could get an7/$182M or something like that, it is much better than risking injury or poor play the following year. I don’t see Bellinger betting $182M so that he could get one more year at $30M.
  17. I am pretty sure they are done spending and most definitely will not go after any of the 3 big tickets Boras has left. All would take them over $257M. What would be a nice surprise would be if late in the spring they decided Morel can handle 3rd so they went and sign JDM for maybe $15M. Put them over the $237 layer but comfortably under the $257M. But I doubt that happens. For 1 thing, I am not sure they will come to the conclusion Morel can handle 2rd in time for that move. And then there is the money.
  18. I think you will see Cody in a game sometime later next week. But I doubt the late start will be an issue for him. I don’t think hitters are as much a concern as pitchers. Especially not 10 days late.
  19. Please back to the topic of baseball. Stop giving this discussion life. Not worth it.
  20. I agree that is a better spot for him, but does he have enough swing and miss in his game, even for the pen?
  21. I am more positive on the team than many. I was last year as well. Most has them under .500. I had them right about where they ended. I see this team as a mid to high 80’s win team. And with some luck, maybe low 90’s. I don’t really see a weakness in the team. No superstars, but no real weakness either, IMO.
  22. Yep, some ground balls that found holes. He looked good. I think going in he was the guy to beat as the 5th starter, and so far he still looks to be that guy.
  23. To be fair, had Shaw not made an error Wicks might not have needed Canario’s defense. Wicks looked good.
  24. Doesn’t matter what I want the city to say. They should say no to all sports teams. Let them all fund their own teams. I just choose to not get worked up about Ricketts asking. Any CEO would. I am done with topic now. It has me defending Ricketts, which is not something I want to do. I just would rather talk sports than continually bitch about Ricketts.
  25. Did you purposely misrepresent my comment so you can make some sort of rant against Ricketts, or do you have issues with comprehension? Are you a product of the Chicago public school system? I said I do not have an issue with Ricketts asking for funding. I also have no issue with the city saying no. But if it is no, and it should be, it better be no to the Sox and the bears too.
