  1. I get the messiness issue with the 40 man. But if Wissom and Madrigal start on the IL, they might take Smith if he says he will opt out if he doesn’t make the OD roster. I just think he may be worth the longer look to see if he is healthy and if the last two years his hand was the reason for his less than average offense. If he agrees to go to Iowa a bit that would be ideal. Then I agree Canario gets the last slot. But if not, they may need to take him north. The issue with the 40 man is, right now, there is only 1 space. And they may have to do that for Edwards too. So that would be 3 spots.
  2. Makes the Giants better. Cubs better win the central. About if solid teams will be in a wild card race. Aside from the Rockies the West is pretty good. East have Atl. and Phillie.
  3. It might be a swan song for Hendricks. But this spring doesn’t concern me. I think he will be fine. ERA beteeen 3.70 and 4,00 IMO. He is fine as a MOR starter. Maybe if he does stay healthy and pitch to an era in the 3’s he plays a little longer. Not sure it will be with the Cubs, however. But this year, I do expect the Cubs to win the division with close to 90 wins.
  4. I don’t think it will be Brown. Honestly I doubt he is even considered at this point. I would guess Assad or Wesneski.
  5. Which is why I said when they bring him up. I think Wisdom is sure to make the team if he isn’t traded. And I doubt he is traded. If Mastro does make it, as I would expect(since Madrigal is hurt) I would bet the last spot would be either Cooper or Canario.
  6. if this discussion is going to go to a place where Sandberg’s wife cheating on him and Grace having consensual sex with whoever chooses to have sex with him is compared to Sammy using steroids, corking his bat and committing DV are remotely the same thing, and anyone who feels Sammy needs to come clean has to be a racist, there is no reason for me to respond or even look at this thread again. I have no issues with people who have a POV that Sammy should be accepted by the Cubs because of what he did on the field. I just wish those who think that way would respect those who think differently, instead of attacking them for their views.
  7. I think if they bring Mastro north then Cooper can be the last bat. If they bring Madrigal north or when they bring Madrigal up, I would expect the last bat to be a left handed hitter.
  8. When I say the numbers that also includes the flash. It was all a show to show everyone how great he was. And I do understand all of that brought people into baseball and the Cubs. I get it. And, honestly, I do see why he should be back in the Cubs family. But to me he needs to acknowledge what he did. Sorry, but to me interferon matters. As many have said, his fans don’t care anyway. So why not admit it? He didn’t bring me to baseball. I already loved it. Maybe that is why I don’t feel about him the way others do.
  9. That too. Plus the general consensus that he was an awful teammate and only worried about his numbers. And then there is that little DV issue with him and the corked bat. All added up is why he isn’t welcome. But, IMO if he showed some integrity and owned up to everything he did, the Cubs should bring him back. After all, they also need to take some accountability in all Sosa did. They knew it and allowed it and even covered up for him. Others have been welcomed back from that time. He should be too, but after acknowledging what he did. The problem is he is too arrogant to admit fault. I get some don’t care about anything but his numbers. And to them he is a hero. But some do care. And apparently Ricketts is one of those who does.
  10. Oh, absolutely, me too.
  11. I think it is an age thing. Younger people don’t care. Older people do. I respect the younger people and their POV. But I am older, and I disagree. I think it matters. And believe me, I am not a meatball fan.
  12. And you would be wrong. He is far from a conquering hero. If he admits what he did the Cubs should bring him back. I agree with that. I just don’t agree this guy should be considered some kind of hero. He was not. He was an average player until he cheated. He was an horsefeathers of a teammate and a human. He was arrogant and was not a well rounded player. He hit homers. That is it. With the help of steroids he was good at hitting homers. This excuse that everyone did it is nonsense. Not everyone did it to his level. Not everyone used it so much their heads got bigger. Everyone also didn’t it use a corked bat or be accused of domestic violence. He is definitely not someone anyone should look up to. But he was a Cub and when he was a Cub they allowed him to be who he was. And during his Cubs career he put up great numbers. So if he admits what he did, and acknowledges he was wrong to do what he was the Cubs should take him back. If not, I am fine with him not being welcomed back by the Cubs.
  13. Nothing. But the list I was responding to suggested there was no disservice to past Cubs who were on team who never won anything, when considering Aosa the best Cub ever. So that is why I asked what team Sosa was in ever won.
  14. Well your name does tell us who you are, so I can’t argue with you.
  15. Just curious. What did the Cubs ever win with Sosa?
  16. I agree the Cubs should bring Sammy back. But I think you are doing many previous Cubs greats a disservice by suggested Sosa is the most important Cubs ever. He was a cheater and a terrible teammate. For those reasons I could not disagree more with you on your praise for him. But others who cheated during that time have been welcomed back by their team. So Sammy should as well.
  17. All players took them. That is not even close to what Sosa did. Those were out in the open back then. People using steroids hid it because they knew it was illegal.
  18. Agreed. TBF, Sosa also was not well liked my his teammates. He was a bit of an horsefeathers. Not sure how much that plays into this when you realize Sandberg was one of those teammates. And at his HOF speech he went out of his way to praise guys who play the game the right way. Specifically mentioned Dawson. When the Cubs were in London I went to their rally in a London bar. I actually got to ask Sandberg a question. I asked him to name some guys he admired that he played with. He mentioned Hrace, Dunston, Dawson and Sutcliffe. No mention of Sosa.
  19. How did Aaron cheat? I am not saying you are wrong. I just never heard this. I also do not believe Thomas used steroids. He was always very big. Bagwell, you could be right about.
  20. Sosa is not the second best Cubs of my lifetime, but that’s a separate discussion. That said, it has been long enough. Because he did put up the numbers he did and he played a lot of years for the Cubs he should be welcomed back in. TR has held this grudge too long. They should talk and then he should be welcomed back. Hell, I see Mcgwire out there with the Cubs. If he can be here so can Sosa.(and I know the Cubs drafted his kid)
  21. True, has to be in the major league roster by a certain date or he can opt out. With guys like Peralta and Smith that makes sense since each is coming back from an injury. Usually the date is still sometime in April, or at the latest mid May.
  22. I have seen various reports that have the Cubs over the LT line. I thought they were a few million under. If they are over a few million or plan on going over at the trade deadline why not use some money now to add a bat and eliminate the discussion of who is the last guy on the team. Add either Belt or JDM. Just stay under the next line and leave some room to add at the deadline and still be under the second tier. What could Belt cost? $10M. They would still be $10M under the second tier so they could still add at the deadline. Unless Jed really likes one of Peralta, Smith or Mervis, I don’t see why they don’t go after Belt. Might be tougher with JDM.
  23. Has to laugh a little at this because I was just thinking that the Cubs could go 90-72 this year. Then I stopped myself and realized I may be drinking too much cubbie kool aid. And then you suggest 93 wins. I will give you this, when you believe something you go all in. But I think 93 is a bit aggressive. I do believe they will win this division. But I am thinking more like 87-90 win range.
  24. I respect your opinion but don’t agree. We will see how it ends up. I wouldn’t play Smirh over Busch, however.
  25. The only argument for Smith is if the last 3 years were due to a injured hand then maybe he could be a lot better than anyone else they may keep. He could be the somewhat regular DH. It might be worth finding out. Not like he is replacing someone who is all that good anyway. He would basically be taking the spot of either Madrigal or Mastro.
