  1. Cubs have to send Amaya down. I don’t care who they have in the minors he has to be better than him.

    PCA

Does anyone bother to actually look at stats before making statements like this? Busch’s OPS+ is 123 going into today. Tied with Tauchman and better than the others. Why should he be sitting daily?

    PCA

I thought about him too, but unless you think they will put Busch at 3rd (which I doubt) I don’t see how he doesn’t play most days. If his sitting mean Wissom or Madrigal plays that is a separate situation to the other 6 guys I mentioned.

Wisdom is just as bad at 3rd and really Morel’s issue is terrible luck with batted balls. His numbers should be way better.
  5. Maybe. But I think it is way too soon to take that determination. Just look at Taillon as an example. His back was bad in spring training and he missed several weeks. Put him back over a month. But then he tweaked it again during the season and he missed one start. We have no idea the severity of Horton’s back problems. But I am sure the Cubs are being extremely cautious. So, sure, might be until after ASB. But could be 10 days too. No reason to speculate yet. Honestly if it does that him back 6 weeks, that means fewer innings this year. Which could be a good thing if/when they do bring him up late in the season.

    PCA

Interesting. Well Jed said if/when PCA comes back he will play most days. So I guess they will do some sort of mixing and matching with him, Happ, Bellinger, Suzuki, Tauchman and Busch filling in 3 OF spots, DH and 1B. I honestly do not expect any current player to be the primary off man out.
  7. And robbed of a hit by the 3rd baseman and a homer by the centerfielder.
  8. I would have left Imanava in rather than go to Be sticks with a man on. Don’t like this move. This is still a game. Well, until Hendricks finishes this inning, anyway. love that kyle proved me wrong!
  9. Yep. We will see Hendricks at least one more time.
  10. I hope only 1 more. Maybe 70 pitches. Then bring him back. Might be the end of the line for Kyle, at that time.
  11. Yes, the catcher’s position is very concerning. Even if you believe Amaya will hit better and is just slumping now, he still can’t control the running game. He has not been good on either side of the ball. And Gomes looks done. Catcher is a real black home for the Cubs right now and as you said, I don’t see it getting better.

    PCA

    Exactly!!!!
  13. I agree. And that is why I didn’t mention Wilson or Rea. But beteeen picking up pen arms for cheap and filling spots in the pen with organizational guys, they have done a good job with the pen. They have also make several good trades. As I mentioned, Contreras, Ortiz, Gassor, even Adames and going back further, Yelich were all from trades. They have also filled in with young talent. They are good at what they do.

    PCA

But you are basing PCA’s value on very limited time in the majors. And you are also valuing the players he would replace based on them not playing well. Happ has averaged 3.7 WAR over the last 2 years. Bellinger was very good last year, and has won an MVP. He is a very good ballplayer. Suzuki had opts over 800 last year and before his injury was probably one of the top offensive players in baseball over his last 350 AB. There is no way of knowing PCA is more valuable than any of those guys if/when the numbers of all the players level off. Tauchman would probably be the only guy I could see PCA being better than over the course of the season. And he is also the only guy doing well right now. I think PCA will be a very good major league player. And if he does hit .250-.265 he very well could be a 6 WAR guy. And that is very valuable. But I don’t see them having to do that, nor do I think they should make that move now. Not at the expense of sitting someone who has a much more proven past of quality baseball.
  15. Rcal10

    PCA

But who are you sitting? Someone with a decent track record of hitting? That only makes a bad offense, most likely worse.
  16. Agreed. I think the Brewers have the best front office in baseball. Just look at what they do with a small budget. Most here complain about the Cubs piecing a pen together. That is exactly what the Brewers do. Hell, Megill and Hudson were Cubs. They made an amazing trade for Contreras. Looks like they got a rotation piece for Hader. They also got a solid 3rd baseman for Burnes and their minor league system is solid. If/when Jed moves on, I would love for the Cubs to look into the brewers GM.

    PCA

I get your point. PCA can still use a little work at AAA. However this idea of his hitting numbers are inflated as is his slugging because he can run is irrelevant. An infield hit is a hit. Stretching a single into a double because he can run is still a double.
  18. Rcal10

    PCA

I’m it opposed to bringing PCA. But the problem is they would have to work up some sort of a playing time schedule that includes him with the other 4 outfielders and Busch to fill the 3 outfield spots, DH and first base. That would leave the Cubs with one guy as the back up middle infielder. And every day one of the Cubs better hitters would have to sit. It does strengthen the bench, however.
  19. Glad they left him in. Surprised but glad. I don’t think Wicks will be in the rotation next time through. Threw 51 pitches and they said they want to give him one more. I don’t think 93 pitches should effect his next start.
  20. My guess is he is done for the evening. 78 pitches. Maybe another inning? But I doubt it.
  21. Any time is a good time to win a blowout game😀 I just don’t see that happening tonight. But hope they do!!
  22. This year Busch has an opts+ of 112. How many Cubs are better than that? It is his first real chance at starting. I don’t think they send down a guy who offensively is actually better than league average. Who are you bringing up, anyway? PCA? What are his offensive numbers? BTW, I am not against bringing PCA up and letting him play. But I disagree with sending Busch down.
  23. Earlier this year the Cubs got 3 runs in 5 innings off of Peralta. They also had 9 men reach base in those 5 innings. Peralta’s era is almost 4. I know they are sucking now, but Peralta is no more likely to dominate them than any other pitcher. That said, whether is it Peralta or Rea, right now the Cubs aren’t hitting anyone. So I don’t expect much. I just don’t feel that way because of Peralta.
