  1. Aren’t Wrigley power alleys the shortest in baseball? Maybe I am wrong but I always thought that. The lines are furthest, but the alleys are easiest to reach.
  2. Morel crushes one into a double play and then the reds get a dribbler between the pitcher and first baseman for a base bit. Man I hate this game.

And they have no one who can hit who should play 3rd.
  4. I like it. Bote, at least, has some pop in his bat. Better bench guy than Madrigal. I would rather see him in the line up against a left handed pitcher than Madrigal. Not a move that moves the needle much, but I do like the decision. Next, when Wicks comes back, IMO that should be it for Kyle. Have to start making tough decisions and put the best team they can in the field.
  5. I would be fine with him up and Madrigal down. At least he has a little pop in his bat. I imagine one of the pen arms will be put in the 60 day IL. Hope this is for Madrigal and nothing happened to Wisdom, Morel of Busch to make this move.
  6. I think if you take out the one bad inning the first time he pitched in relief opening series, his relief numbers are very good too. Hard to get numbers leveled when you have one terrible inning in relief and only pitch 15-20 relief innings total.
  7. IMO Alonso isn’t worth what the Mets would want. Now if they are willing to take someone near middle to back of the Cubs top 30 prospects maybe. But I doubt they take that. And most likely someone will give them something f better. Not even comparing him to Busch, because I agree we don’t know about Busch, I don’t really want him. Right now we are playing PCA everyday which moves Bellinger. Happ and Suzuki each are playing, as is Tauchman. Even if I concede and say Alonso would be a good bat in the line up, the question is for who? And does he make that much of a difference. My answer would be no. Cubs need a catcher who can hit. All other positions are filled IMO. and as I said, Alonso turned down 7/$158 from the Mets in the off season. I wouldn’t want him for more than 3 or 4 years. So I don’t see extending him.
  8. He turned down a great offer from the Mets already. The only thing worse than trading for him would be signing him to a long term deal. He will not age well.
  9. Less than 2 outs should not happen except for the contact play. If it is called and hit to an infielder there is nothing the coach or the runner can do about it. The 9th inning send is absolutely inexcusable. as for the one with Swanson, as I said, that could go either way. If India goes to first everyone is saying what a great play Swanson made and what a great send from Harris.
  10. I don’t get the fan base love for Alonso. He hits homers. That’s it. Bad fielder, strikes out a lot, clogs the bases. His OPS+ is 123. The guy he would be replacing (Busch) is 121. People see Busch strike out and complain about him. What do you think they would do with Alonso? When you factor in the prospect cost to get Alonso, IMO, he isn’t worth it. I don’t see him as this huge upgrade. Besides that, currently the Cubs have 6 guys who should play most days, for 5 positions(which includes DH and 1B). Alonso would add another. Cubs need a catcher who can hit a bit and then they need the guys they already have to play like they are supposed to. That is about all they can do, IMO. They should be looking for pitching. Maybe a starter and definitely a closer.
  11. I see Harris took the blame for the send in the 9th and the Swanson play. That makes sense. Ball is behind Swanson. He just did what the coach told him to do. Keep running. And really, if India throws to first it would have been a great send. This is one of those times where a guy is out and it looks like a very stupid play. But in reality they had Gomes up next. His chance of getting a hit is probably about 15%. Factor in a wild pitch, maybe he walks and the next guy gets a chance and maybe the Cubs have a 20% chance of scoring. Now, if India actually throws to first Swanson scores. So does a second baseman try a throw to first more often than 1 out of every 5 times that ball is played? If they do the send makes sense. And either way, Swanson shouldn’t be blamed for that one. It wasn’t him making the mistake, but was Harris. Again, no defense of the 9th inning send but I do see the reasoning behind Harris sending Swanson. I feel that was a 50/50 decision. And either way, not a fault of Swanson.
  12. Exactly. Thereis no defense for this send. I know you say you can see Cruz getting the throw and that should have been when the stop went up. And maybe so. But I think as soon the left fielder fielded the ball cleanly, Harris should have stopped him. Scoring shouldn’t have even been a consideration. And, especially so, because, as you alluded too, Bellinger and Morel were coming up.
  13. I’ve defended the contact play out at home or the two out send where the guy gets thrown out at home. But there is NO DEFENSE for that send. The play in left was easy to see. As soon as the left fielder stopped that ball from getting to the wall Harris had to stop Madrigal. That was an easy play for the SS to make. He is out no matter who makes the throw from SS. Just an awful send. And then, of course, Bellinger hits a long fly that would have tied the game.

Same can be said for Morel at the major league level. His BABIP is very low. He should have a much higher BA and slugging.

I have watched pretty much every game and with the naked eye, I agree with you. I feel more comfortable when a ball is hit to him then in the beginning of the season. But the start guys will tell a different story. By advanced stats, he hasn’t improved.

Got to hand it to you thawv. You are very consistent with your belief of rushing guys to the majors, and assuming they will be better than what the Cubs have at the position you are putting that player at. You are doing it again with Shaw. Let’s let him play at AA and see if the position is just waiting for him to fill it out.

So it has to be Morel at third. Fact is if the rest of the team was playing defense like they are supposed to be playing it, Morel being below average wouldn’t be that big deal. He is still getting comfortable there. And Madrigal isn’t flashing GG defense either. And HE CANT HIT. Wisdom is no better than Morel at 3rd so beteeen him and Morel batting I would take Morel. If Shaw starts hitting and comes up and IF he can play a decent third base, maybe then the conversation add Morel to it. But for now, be sure of no other options, Mirel has to play 3rd most days.

You make these statements all the time. But who? Who are they going to trade for? Who is trading now? And what position is this bat going to play? Sure, I can see catcher. That would be great. So tell me a catcher they should trade for who a team will realistically trade. Maybe Jansen? How about the pen arm? Who do you suggest? IMO it has to be the lock down guy. Cubs have plenty of journeyman pen arms to fill middle relief. (And to mess up too). Don’t care to add another reliever who isn’t elite. But again, who is trading that? I understand frustration, but I just don’t think it is nearly as simple as you try to make it seem. And again, if not catcher, who are they bringing in and who sits because of it?

    PCA

Right now Morel is a much better hitter than Shaw. Shaw isn’t exactly lighting it up at AA either. And Morel has been the most unlucky hitter in MLB. If he was putting up his expected numbers you wouldn’t be saying he shouldn’t be playing. Sure, maybe he should DH more, if they had another 3rd baseman who can hit(as you say, Shaw, maybe). But then if those two guys were in the mix with the others that would mean 6 spots taken up by 8 players. That would mean more missing and matching.
  20. 👍 yes, I did miss the update. It does appear he will be out a bit. But, if he does come back after ASB, as I said, that might not be terrible.

I repeat, his OPS+ is 123. No one on the team is higher. They just need to rotate guys. Busch doesn’t deserve to be benched. This isn’t about Busch versus Tauchman. This is all guys should play and rotate in.
  23. This Little appearance shouldn’t surprise anyone, should it? He can’t throw strikes. No idea why Counsel put him in.
