I get the match. But Tucker isn’t worth that haul. Plain and simple. And I don’t want to trade Suzuki. In my mind Suzuki is much better than Bellinger. Especially offensively, which is what they need. Him and Tucker in the middle of the line up is far superior to Tucker and Bellinger. I also don’t like the idea of trading Suzuki while trying to get Sasaki.!

I would guess the former as well. But maybe if the Astros like Warren the Cubs could pull back Cassie and Amith and make it definitely Alcantara. (If that is the Xubs preference. Regardless of which one of those guys it would be I would make the trade with one of them, Paredes and Warren. I wouldn’t also be fine with the Cubs eating $10M of Bellinger’s deal.

Regardless of what happens with Bellinger, Tucker isn’t worth Paredes, Smith and Suzuki. I would rather Jed walk away then let the Astros clearly win the trade. I also think trading Suzuki hurts the small chance they have at Sasaki. I wouldn’t do it.

The score radio in Chicago is framing it that way too. But assuming it is wrong than I am all for Getting Tucker and would do it even if Smith was in the deal. Paredes (better😬) and Smith with a smaller piece is as high as I would go.

To me Alonso is going to be this years Bellinger/Chapman of last off season.

And I hope he honors that comment. But if Suzuki is in the deal Valdez has to come too. Not saying Parades and Suzuki for Valdez and Tucker. Obviously the Cubs would have to add a combination of Smith/Assad/Wicks/Triantos/Alcantara/ Brown etc… Not all, but players within that group. But if they lost Suzuki they would probably keep Bellinger. Which means Suzuki has to bring pitcher back.

Smith is definitely getting some of that shiney new toy love here. I wouldn’t have a problem with him being the headliner at all. I would much rather trade a prospect than proven talent. I get Shaw, but I think if the Astros insisted(and I don’t think they would) I would trade him. My ideal trade to the Astros would be Smith/Alcantara/Assad. Keeps Parades at 3rd and when we trade Bellinger, Tucker replaces him. Bellinger gets traded for a staring pitcher. And if we have to add a prospect we do. Time to use the minor league system for what it is. A tool to bring in quality major league talent.

I said that too. But 1908 pointed out the Astros are even more long term contract adverse than the Cubs. There is a belief Tucker gets traded regardless of what happens with Bregman. And historically the Astros have kept guys and lost them to FA. Apparently they don’t want to do that again with Tucker, regardless of what happens with Bregman.

This is also true. I think people are giving the Yankees too much credit here anyway. Who are they trading that can match Parades/Smith/Asaad? And do the Astros want to make the Yankees better? I don’t see Dominguez mentioned in a trade. I have seen Gill. Ok, that is one guy. What else?

Who are the Cubs top 3 that they won’t trade? I am curious because if/when the trade happens I want to see if any of the Cubs top 3 are in it. To me the issue is if the Astros really want Parades and Suzuki. That is what I think Jed wants no part of. I think he would give any one prospect and Parades for him. And when/if the trade happens they will not have a guarantee he will extend.

That ask for Tucker is too high. I want him, but if the Astros want that much and demand it, Cubs walk away. Most I would go for the Cubs is 2 of Parades/Shaw/Smith/Alcantara plus a lesser prospect or someone like Assad or Wesneski. No in Suzuki.

Might be Bregman. All he cost the Yankees is money.

Is am not suggesting they bring them all back, but from July to the end of the season the Cubs were 44-33. That was basically around the time they had all the players they can’t bring back in the every day line up. That record over the entire year peojectd to over 90 wins. I do think they can bring all those guys back, improve the rotation, the pen and the bench and win. Again, not saying j want to do that. I want Tucker. But if they did come back this would still be a good team. They don’t even need different results then what they had playing together. Just keep playing .571 ball. 92-70 would be good.

I don’t think it is followed directly by a signing. But I do think the Cubs would not do this deal strictly for one year, knowing they have no intention of signing him long term.

That confirms it. Rogers is an idiot. Even if that does eventually happen there is no way the Cubs are trading for Tucker knowing they have no intention of signing him long term.

Yes. I have said this many times. The only advantage they get is they are a large market so they can and should spend big. When they don’t they are choosing not to take advantage of the one advantage they have.

Thank you for a complete run down. Works for me. But if Bregman doesn’t go back to the Astros they now have money to spend. Maybe they don’t deal Tucker. At one point I thought the theory was Houston would keep either Tucker or Bregman. Doesn’t losing Bregman make Houston slightly more likely to keep Tucker?

I get that means Bellinger to the Yankees. But Bellinger could play 1st base. Why would that make them out on Tucker? Why would that be a good sign of a Cubs trade to Houston?

Love to have Tucker and want so much for Jed to finally hook the big fish. But not for what the Astros are asking. I think he needs to walk away and go back to looking into Bellinger+ for a pitcher and then maybe a prospect or two for Lowe. Puts Suzuki back in right field with no everyday DH. Not super exciting but still a solid team. Can’t make a team be real able. If the Astros are not reasonable they have to walk away.

Any chance Valdez is in the deal too. Smith, Suzuki and Parades, maybe Wicks too, for Tucker and Valdez. Because that ask is crazy for just Tucker. Wouldn’t do it if they added Pressley even. Might with Valdez added.
