Yep. Signing Rea instead of going after a guy to slot ahead of Tailon suggest either they do feel good about a few of the guys you mentioned or they are just hoping to hang in contention until the deadline and get a starting pitcher at 1/3 the cost. Sure hope it is the former. But very well can be strictly a money saving move.

I agree with this, provided they do sign or trade for a back end pen arm and at one or two solid bench bats. They have t done that yet. Other than that yiu said basically my thoughts. If they do that, my only criticism would be I would have rather spend a little more and gotten a better starter than Rea. But maybe the Cubs expect Brown or Horton to give them 100 quality innings and didn’t feel they needed more than Rea at this time.🤷

I agree with all of this, and will add one more thing. Maybe they really believe Brown or Horton can be big contributors to the rotation the last half of the year. That said, since they didn’t get the big time closer I wish they did invest more on the rotation.

I agree he could have gotten one of them. However, I am beginning to think if the Dodgers want a guy they will just keep adding more to a contract until they get him.

Honestly, does it matter anyway? If the Dodgers want a guy they just outbid everyone and get the guy. We have no idea if the Cubs were interested or not.

I did too. I expected a better pitcher than Rea, added to the rotation. And then someone like Finnegan and a solid bench bat.

Again, what is wrong with what I sent? Is that not true? Or didn’t they sign that contract? Where do they show that revenue? If you don’t believe that is the contract they signed, look it up.

Dodgers signed a 25 year $8.35B deal back in 2014. That is $334M a year in TV revenues. Where is that money being reported? Again, I agree the Cubs should spend more money. But their revenues are not the Dodgers revenues. Not even close. Also, it is clear we are not going to agree on this. So you believe what you want and I will do the same. But stop suggesting what I post isn’t true. It isn’t what you believe. Doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

What isn’t true? Is it true the Dodgers have a ridiculous TV deal thru 2039 that pays them hundreds of millions more per year than other teams? I agree with your basic argument that teams can spend more. I also agree the Cubs should spend a lot more. But I do not agree they are on the same playing field of the Dodgers.

I wouldn’t be shocked when a RB in rd one and the 2 OL in rd 2. Or sign an OT or two and draft an edge rusher. Lions did draft Gibbs early. I can see the Bears doing the same.

There should be a floor, for sure. But also cap. Yes, teams can absolutely spend more, but no one can compete with what the Dodgers can do.

If true this sucks. 4/$72 is not ridiculous for him. Of course I thought it was a no brainer Scott (or any player) would choose LA over Chicago if all is equal. So can’t tell if it is true.

And? I think it is an “or” not an and. And I agree with you I want one of them. They are not going to sign 2 pen arms over $10M each, IMO. It would be nice, but I don’t see it.

Who? Who are they to sign where the fan base will be happy? They tried for Scott. He chose the Dodgers. If they sign Yates or Robertson do you really think people will not complain about them when they blow a save?

With the guys who are left I have to say no matter who they do end up getting, as soon as the pen has a bad week the complaining will begin. And it is going to happen. It happens to every team at some point. Even the Guardians and Brewers sucked in the playoffs. It is just the easiest thing to bitch about. If it is Robertson, Yates or Jansen it will be Cubs should have known they were too old. You already have your red flags ready if it is Estevez. If it is Finnegan he will also be easy to criticize. Hell, the Nationals let him walk. TBH even if they got Scott, if he struggled early posters would be talking about having to have him for 4 years. The surest thing in baseball is to predict fans will complain about their teams bullpen. They are going to get someone. We should be happy they are at least going to try to fix the back end. I just don’t want them to take the last man standing. Make a decision on who they want and sign him, period. And they are not signing two. Nantes with you, however. I want either Yates or Robertson if I am picking one. But they come with issues too.

Except why not Robertson? I have to think he comes before the floor of Poche. Maybe even a few others before Poche.

I think there is Kahnle and Farmer if the Cubs aren’t specifically looking for a closer.

All that said, I would take him. My first choice would be Yates. Probably Robertson followed by Estevez. I think Finnegan and Jansen would be after that. Just my preference.

I forgot about Estevez. But I think Finnegan is available too. And he did close, unlike Farmer, who did not. Maybe those are the top 6?

So do the Cubs pivot to Yates? He would probably cost around $14M-$15M. Maybe a second year? But he would be a good back end guy. Or is it Finnegan, Jansen or Robertson? Has to be one of them, right???? Hope it is Yates.
