  1. What are you talking about. The exceptions to going 6 innings has if the pitcher gets to 100 pitches or gives up 4 runs. So if a pitcher gets blown up in the 3 rd inning and gives up 4 runs he can be taken out. If a pitcher labors through 4 innings and then in the 5th gets to 100 pitches he can be taken out. A guy doesn’t have to throw 120 pitches to get through 6 innings. A starter who gives up 5 in the 1st doesn’t have to stay in the game to get 6 innings. I agree they should just leave it alone. I really don’t think they are solving a problem with this idea, because I don’t feel there is a problem to solve. But your scenarios have been accounted for if they did change the rule. Honestly all I want is a proper strike zone called automatically.
  2. No, there couldn’t be an opener. But another problem with this idea is when a guy comes back from injury. Often a first start for someone is hoping to get 75 pitches or 5 innings, something like that. Now it has to be 6 or 100. Honestly, to me mlb is trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Just get the automatic balls and strikes taken care of and I will be happy.
  3. I think they are actually trying to lessen the amount of pitching injuries. If a pitcher knows he has to go 6 or throw 100 pitches maybe he doesn’t go max effort on every pitch. Maybe coming out and throwing as hard as he can for as long as he can is the reason for so many pitchers getting injured. By mlb saying someone has to go 6 innings that may alter a pitchers plan. I honestly don’t know, but I thought I read somewhere they were trying to limit pitchers injuries with this move. I guess it would also mean less innings for the pen. Which could help the pen guys too. Again, don’t know. To me they are trying to fix a problem most of us don’t really think mlb has. And instead of fixing the strike zone they are doing this.
  4. That is because that is what it is. If he is in the 5th inning and at 100 pitches he probably isn’t doing well. If he gave up 4 runs before the 6th inning he isn’t doing well. So call it as you said, 6 innings unless he isn’t doing well.
  5. Can they buy him out or is it his option to either come back another year or they buy him out for $5M? Maybe that is what Jed is talking about. If Cody opts out the Cubs pay him $5M and then go over. If he stays they don’t go over. I just don’t know.
  6. I agree. This is something he should lose his job because of. I have defended Jed on more than one occasion. But going over the LT this year is inexcusable. There is no defense for this.
  7. That is just ridiculous if they are over.
  8. I agree with the 10 guys for 9 positions and they bring in a big bat. I also agree on it being either Soto (by far my first choice). Next choice would be Tucker. And final trade choice would be Vlad. I am honestly not sure about Robert. He has lost a lot of value IMO. If they did trade for him it would have to be for less than what the Sox are expecting right now. After that I guess Alonso is an option as a FA.
  9. There are just too many missed calls to do a challenge system. It has to be just all automated, IMO.
  10. All would be starters and all would have to be conditioned to throw 100 pitches. I am certain Wicks has thrown 100 before. I would imagine if they did this they might allow for some early season shorter outings. Maybe 85 pitches through mid April and then 100. But it is so hard to really do this. Often guys come back from an injury and the team hopes to get 75 pitches or 5 innings out of a guy. Not sure how that would work now.
  11. I am all for making changes that make the game better. But they need to start with the automatic strike zone. And I agree it should be used full time without a challenge system. To me that is the first thing they should do.
  12. Agreed. But who does that elite bat replace? You named 5 similar guys with Suzuki and Busch being the best. Then you add in Swanson and Hoerner. That’s 7. You have a catcher. That makes 8. And then PCA. So does the big bat replace, PCA? Or do they go with basically 10 starters for 9 positions? TBH, the results should be better now. This team should be a team 10 games over .500. With the names they have in their line up, if all played to their career numbers it should be a good line up. The rotation has been solid. And I just saw yesterday that the Cubs pen era was 7th in baseball. I know the record is all that matters, but this team should be better. It is very frustrating.
  13. I don’t like the idea. But I also don’t see the need. To me the biggest thing they should do is get the strike zone figured out. And they need to do that by not having umpires call balls and strikes. To me that is a much bigger issue than making a starter go 6 innings. My biggest issue with this is what happens when a manager would normally do a bullpen day? I guess they couldn’t do that.
  14. Well actually you showed 3 opinions on him. The two you mentioned and then yours. And I agree with yours. Solid ball player worth what he is being paid and can fit on any team. 😀
  15. Not sure about across the league, but definitely with many here who always wants to replace him and acts like it would be easy to do.
  16. A deal with Comcast shouldn’t make a difference. With people able to pay for the marquee app on its own I don’t see the Cubs worrying too much about if Comcast picks them up or not. That said, they might use it as an excuse, but really that is all it is. I think if Comcast fights it too much and doesn’t have marquee as one of their channels they will lose a lot of people. I don’t see them having the advantage now that marquee has the app. Why wouldn’t people just cut the cable and stream? YouTube tv is cheaper and even adding the marquee app it is still cheaper than Comcast.
  17. I did too. But I don’t think Counsil getting tossed for balls and strikes that weee called bad on both teams does anything for the team. For that fans, sure it is entertaining. What I don’t understand is how baseball can be played by the best players in the world and be ok with subpar officiating of the game. How do they allow umpires to continue to suck at what they do when they have the technology to do it so much better? I don’t get it.
  18. Also, his running could have caused Ramirez to hesitate for a second and if he threw to first maybe it is late. Or with indecision maybe it is a bad throw. If Nico is running he can score on a misplay at 1st. Really not a big deal. Ramirez makes the play at 1st anyway if Nico isn’t running.
  19. And their pen doesn’t have any high priced signings. Their closer is amazing but home grown. Everyone else is either a system guy or a cheaper pen arm. They are just all having great years.
  20. And exactly what would that look like? What is he supposed to do? Get tossed from the game? Do you think the umpire than says “oh, maybe he was right” and start calling a better game? In fairness he has been bad with both teams.
  21. I don’t have a problem with this move. Boyd is much better against lefties. I did have a problem with Wisdom for Busch last night when down by 5. Busch is probably more likely to get a hit than Wisdom against that lefty. Maybe Wisdom hits more homers in that spot. But they needed base runners. So I didnt necessarily get that one. I am fine with this one.
  22. There should have been runners in 1st and 2nd had Dansby not kicked the ball into the outfield. He wouldn’t have gotten the guy at 1st on the grounder he slid to try to stop, but Ramirez was going back to 2nd until he kicked the ball. So you are right, the ground ball could have been a double play if the infield was playing back. I am not sure that is true, (it was a high hopper and they might not have turned it) but your argument does make sense based on where runners should have been.
  23. I’m not so sure 85 doesn’t get them in this year. 5 over is the bar right now. If each team plays 500 or 1 game o we that gives them 84 wins. I would like to see the Cubs at 86-87 wins, but that is a real tall order. But maybe 85 does get it done.
  24. Going tonight. Putting my 5-2 record on the line. Love that the Cubs dumped Hendricks and are going with Imanaga. Making me start to believe they are back in the race. Really need this one!
  25. I get that. Like I said, I know it wouldn’t be popular. And I would much rather get a big bat. But it is not inconceivable the same guys they have now so have a better year next year. The talent is on this team. Paredes all year and PCA with a year under his belt should help. Then some guys can play to their career numbers instead of below them, like this year. Add a TOR starter and you have a 90 win team.
