  1. I guess so. Not as good a hitter, but he has more versatility. Can play any outfield position and 1st base. Centerfield would obviously be the most appealing for a team, but his vercitility also helps. just asking, do you think Happ is worth $20M a year? I know I do. He is a high 3 WAR, to maybe a low to mid 4 WAR.
  2. This is kind of my thought. I never agreed with most people who make it sound like a sure thing he would stay. He is 29, so if he wants a 5 or 6 year deal now is the time. Sure he can make $27.5M next year and then have another good year of salary after that is he sucks next year. But then what? I think he gets a better deal now than what he will get after next year. And it is not inconceivable he does get a 5 or 6 year deal averaging $20M a year. But if he does go, thr Cubs better aim high. Not Santander or O’Neil. It should be a trade for Tucker or Vlad. Or why not Soto? If it is a trade they have to extend whoever you trade for. Or if they go with either of those other guys or even Teoacar Hernandez or Alonso they need to make a big pitching move. Either a trade for a front line starter or sign a top line starter. They have plenty of money and plenty of prospects to make two big moves and still have enough to add a pen arm. To be clear Alonso on anything more than 3 years is not appealing to me. But he would add power to the line up, if he can be had for the right price and eight years.
  3. Well Chapman is getting 6/$150. I am suggesting Bellinger might see 6/$120m. So that is not close to Chapman. I get Chapman’s was is very high. Much of it because of defense. His opt+ is better than Bellinger, but not to an amount that is ridiculous. Bellinger could have a hot last few weeks and Chapman can struggle and they would be pretty similar. TBH, I assumed Bellinger wouldn’t opt out because he would t get close $100M on a decent long term deal. But now I am not sure. Chapman is 2 years older and strictly a 3rd baseman. And got $25M a year. IMO, that is a lot of money for him.
  4. Does Chapman signing an extension for 6 years make Cody consider opting out? I feel Chapman got a pretty good deal. Even if Bellinger was given 6/$120M wouldn’t he take that over the current deal? I can see him getting that is Chapman got what he got.
  5. Just curious. What’s everyone’s favorite punching bag, Ian Happ’s WAR? I am never sure which WAR we are talking about, so I don’t want to misspeak on Happ’s WAR. What do you show it as?
  6. 2 pen arms brought up. Would have liked to see Killian or Birdsell.
  7. Who would that be? I don’t think any offensive players in the minors will be on the team on opening day next year. So who are they releasing in the pitching department to bring up what pitchers?
  8. I honestly do think he will be aggressive this off season. I also don’t think they need much to be a 90+ win team. The reason I think he will be aggressive is because next year is “now or never” for him. The only way that changes is if Ricketts gives him an extension. Hopefully he doesn’t. To be clear, being aggressive doesn’t mean we get Soto. That is still a tall order. But I do expect a better roster next season where 90+ the expected win total. They have prospects to trade and money to spend. No excuse not to be good.
  9. 5 innings from Kyle is amazing. 2 runs isn’t bad. This has to be Skenes last inning. Maybe we can have late inning magic against their pen.
  10. Pitch count is going to get him. But if not for that, I don’t think the Cubs would get to him. 4th inning was his best.
  11. I honestly would pull him now. Go with Pearson for 2 and figure out what to do after that. Next time Hendricks struggles he won’t get out of it.
  12. Well it isn’t the Sox beating the Orioles.😀
  13. Maybe he can go one time through the line up. Then go to the one in the 4th. Don’t wait for him to explode. When he goes bad it happens quick. Then go with Pewrson for a couple and maybe Smyly for a couple.
  14. I think I would have rather seen a bullpen day. Start Pearson for a few innings then go to Smyly for maybe 3 innings. Figure out the rest depending on the score.
  15. Sounds like that is more from the heart than the brain. But I like where your heart is. Hope you are right.
  16. I was at the game last night. One thing that struck me as wrong was the Cubs were showing that huge comeback win over the Pirates last week. Showed hilights between inning along with win probability at the time of the hilight. TBH, I didn’t like it. I thought it was rubbing it in to the Pirates. If you remember last year their manager went off on Ross when Ross complained that the Cubs shouldn’t lose to a bad team. I think that is partially why the Cubs have seen Jones and Skenes in 8 of the 13 games the pirates have played the Cubs. I am also sure the Pirates took great pleasure in making their own comeback win last night. I am sure many will disagree and suggest players play the same no matter what. But I don’t think so. I think showing that comeback was in poor taste and it could have fired them up a little. At the time they did it I said I wouldn’t have shown that. It did concern me. As I said, feel free to disagree. The video did not help the Pirates get two bloop hits before the homer. I get that. But I still would have rather they not poke the bear. As I said, I feel they are facing the pitchers they have faced this year as a result of Ross calling them a bad team last year.
  17. So what you are saying is you aren’t going with facts about how hard it would be to make the playoffs. You are going with opinion, facts be damned. If they are still 3 out 9 games from now they are going to have a real hard time getting in. Far, far less that 50/50.
  18. I think if they are still 3 down after the next 9 games their playoff odds will be far less than 50/50. It will probably be less than what it is now. No way around it, they put themselves in a terrible spot. And nothing short of 17-8 the last 25 games will get it done. And, as I said, I am not sure than does it either. I think the Dbacks and Padres have a tougher schedule and I can see one of those teams putting up a 10-15 and the Cubs maybe passing them, almost as likely as them passing the Braves. BTW, I still think there is a better chance of SD or Az going 10-15 then there is on Atlanta going 14-14. But that is my opinion……
  19. I would have thought that if there was another Kyle start it would be Wednesday. That would push Imanaga back to Friday, giving him 6 days rest between starts, and he would be able to be able to face the Yankees and the Dodgers. That Dodger start would have been in a traditional rest period in MLB. But it looks like they are using Imanaga Wednesday instead, which would then give him an extra day next start but this time on normal rest. For me, if Kyle is going to get one more start I would rather it be Wednesday so Imanaga can go in both NY and LA series. Very good chance if he doesn’t go this week he won’t pitch again until the Cubs are out of it.
  20. I think “like their chances” is a little strong. They would still have to make up 4 games in the last 16 games. And 3 of those are against the Phillies. I do believe the Cubs can stay hot and win maybe 88 games. That calls for 17-8 the rest of the year. My concern is 88 may not be enough.
  21. Yes to everything. Cubs lose ALL tiebreakers.
  22. Even a game as simple as the Cubs blowing an 8-0 against the Padres. That puts the Cubs 2 closer to the Padres and gives them the tie breaker against them as well. Same issue last year with Dbacks. Win one of those against the Dbacks and the Cubs are in and Az out. Gomes just misses a homer at Wrigley and gets thrown out at second…. The ball off it Thompson that Dansby doesn’t catch…. Either goes the ins way and they are in. I worry the same thing will happen this year.
  23. Exactly. And maybe Counsil will try stealing one with Hendricks and a pen day. Pirates have Falter going. Plus, if you hold Imanaga until Friday you get him in both the Yankees and Dodger series.
  24. You probably are.😀. His last 4 starts he has pitched with 5 days rest. He pitched a shutout against the Orioles on 6 days rest. Whenever Counsil could give him that 5th day he gives it to him. Yes, one of his bad starts this year was with extra rest. But for the most part they try giving him more time.
