  1. So much if this is just a rambling nonsense. But one point in particular, that I would like to make is Suzuki is 18th in baseball in OPS this year. He is a very fine DH. And if you go back to August on 23’ Suzuki is a top 10-15 hitter in the game. They need another big bat. But Seiya is a big bat.
  2. I agree they need to get a solid major league ballplayer back and have some control over that player. I don’t have any issue with them not trading Happ, Suzuki, Hoerner or Swanson to put a rookie in their place. It is time to use that minor league talent as assets. Trade whatever you need to trade to bring proven talent in. I think some people put way too much emphasis on replacing very good players with a rookie and assume that will make the team better. I would have no issue with packaging a few of the Cubs top 10 prospects for either proven pitcher (Gilbert, as an example) with some control in his contract or a big bat like Tucker or Vlad, provided they sign an extension. The time to trade the prospects is now.
  3. Exactly. And the thing is, no one says you have to play the raffle. I would think people should be happy money is going to a charity. As you said, when people hate someone they can find a lot of things to bitch about regarding that person. But the reality is that is what business people do. I hate corporate America too. But to me, that is an entirely different topic for a different venue.
  4. We already have one guy who talks in riddles. Do we really need another. I asked about the 50/50 raffle. You complained about it. Is it done differently elsewhere? Or do fans buy tickets and split the raffle with the charity the team donates to, at all parks? And, again, you don’t have to play the raffle.
  5. What am I missing here? Aren’t all 50/50 raffles funded by the fans? Or are you talking about something else? I do understand the prices for concessions are outrageous. But I never buy anything at a game. I go to a game to watch the game. PERIOD! It amazes me how people can buy an $11 bud. And buy 3-5 a game. But in fairness to the Cubs or any sports team, your ticket does come with a 2 drink minimum. You don’t have to drink or eat at the game. I go to too many games to then spend an extra $100 for me and my wife to eat and drink at it. We either go out after the game or before the game. As for Wrigley having advertising all around the park, it is no didfeeent than any other park. Again, if they aren’t doing it they are losing money they can make. I do understand Stratos comment in the LED lights. And I would prefer it wasn’t a thing. But then I have a couple I sell some of my games to that love them. Stay to sing at the end of the game and watch the light show. I don’t get it. It isn’t for me, but I honestly couldn’t care less if they were there or not. As I said, I go to the park to watch the game. During that time, nothing outside of the game matters to me.
  6. If Bellinger opts out the Cubs don’t have to move anyone to add a bat. And even if he doesn’t, they can move 9 guys around in 8 positions and add a bat. Catcher would be Amaya and whoever they add. If they can add a catcher with pop, that can also help. But I would be fine with signing someone like Kelly to share the catching with Amaya. As for young guys ready to move up, maybe they go in a trade for that bat or they go for the best pitcher they can get in a trade. The ideal off season for me would be adding one of Soto, Vlad or Tucker. Add a pitcher like Burnes, Snell, Fried, Flaherty, Gilbert or any of the other Seattle starters, or similar And trade for a catcher with pop or just sign someone like Kelly. Add a decent pen arm or two and call it an off season. They wont have the money for all high end salaries, so if they did bring in one of the bats I am hoping for(and sign them long term) they might have to trade for a young arm and forget about the guys like Burnes. But that still leaves guys like Keller, Cabrera, several Seattle pitchers and even Crochett. I am sure there are a few more.
  7. No problem. And I agree with you that large market doesn’t automatically make 90 wins a baseline. But this FO does need to focus on building a top end team instead of an average one that if they get some breaks can made it into the playoffs.
  8. If you aren’t taking advantage of every way to bring in revenue you are a bad businessman. Worrying about advertisements, having concerts at the park, renting out Clark for parties, etc… is probably the last thing I concern myself with. I know you and many others feel this way. And I am not criticizing you for feeling as you do. I am just saying that stuff doesn’t matter to me in the least.
  9. Ok. So what is your point Do you not agree that every year the FO should strive to build a team that projects to win 90 games instead of 83 (and hope they get lucky and win 90)?
  10. I absolutely agree with this. I just don’t see Jed doing something like that. I am very doubtful they do it even if Bellinger opts out. Almost no chance if he stays. But he is exactly who they should get, and worry about other moves after that.
  11. Where do we put this power bat? I do not disagree we need more power. But not just a power bat. As someone pointed out, replacing Bellinger who could give you 18-22 homers and good defense at multiple positions for someone like Alonso, as an example, does add power. But it doesn’t make the team better. You are replacing one guy who can have a WAR around 3 with another guy who has a WAR around 3. They just do it differently. But, I also agree with yiu that we shouldn’t dumpster dive. If Bellinger opts out there is no reason not to go hard and get Soto. There is also no reason not to shop at the high end of the FA pitcher market. And if that doesn’t work, no reason not to go heavy into a bat like Tucker or Vlad . Or go hard after a Seattle pitcher or any other higher end pitcher in a trade. They don’t need power just for the sake of power. They need to add impact players. Not bargain/value players.. Hopefully Jed has some urgency, we have seen yet from him, this year.
  12. I think the season was a C, tbh. They built a team that projected to win 83 games and that is pretty much where they finished. Now if we are talking about prior to the season and whatever they did in the off season, sure they should get and or maybe even an F. There is no excuse for the Cubs to not build a team what is expected to win 90+ games. But the players pretty much performed to a level expected out of them. Pretty average. Average means C to me.
  13. That is true. If your point was they were used a lot during the handpicked timeframe you used, you are right. You proved that to be correct. If you point was what you showed backs your belief that overuse caused them to all suck in September and to have 2 of the 3 get injured, I think you fell short of proving that. How did the other 25 guys all around the same amount of games do in September? How many of them are hurt now? Leiter and Merryweather tied for 23rd in total appearances last year. Alzolay didn’t even crack the top 100. There is simply no proof overuse caused issues. There is just not a one size fits all solution to the pen. All 3 of those guys have shown in the past to have bad stretches. Just because they all had a bad stretch in September does not mean it was because of use prior to that. Could just mean they are all middle relief pitcher who by nature are all prone to be good for some time and bad for some time. The nature of that spot lends itself to that sort of a pitcher. As for injuries, I do tend to agree with you on the Cubs should have expected or at least be prepared for Alzolay to go down. But not because of that 2 month stretch. Because his history shows he could be susceptible to arm problems. Same with Merryweather, really.
  14. Look at mlb home run leaders. 3 guys are tied for 6th. Then the guy with one less than them is shown as 9th. It is always that way.
  15. That isn’t correct then. If 4 guys threw 28 games a guy who threw 27 can’t be second. He is 5th. And if 6 guys threw 27 games Alzolay is tied for 5th with 5 other guys. As for Merryweather, he appears to be tied with 11 other guys for 18th. A far cry from 4th. Still a lot of innings in a hand picked amount of time, but definitely an exaggeration to make a point.
  16. If Leiter was first and then Alzolay was second, doesn’t that mean no one was tied with Leiter? If there was someone tied with him Alzolay couldn’t be second. And if Merryweather was 4th doesn’t that mean there was one person tied with Alzolay for 2nd? Again, if there were more, how could Merryweather be 4th. Based on Stratos post the only question should be how many pitchers were tied with Merryweather. i am not agreeing or disagreeing with Stratos. But based on what he posted, it does sound like the Cubs used those guys more than other relievers were used over the timeframe he picked.
  17. There you go again, showing facts. You know wine people don’t like facts.
  18. And the Phillies are starting a lefty.
  19. Eovaldi does fit this FO MO. Probably get him for at most a 3 year deal. I would be more comfortable with 2, but he might get 3. That said, if he is the main pitcher they bring in they need to also spend on a pen arm or even 2, and a bat. He can’t be the big addition. Has to be a bigger move somewhere, IMO.
  20. I’m not so sure they have a clear top 4 in place. My guess is they would love for someone to slot into a place ahead of Taillon (maybe even the top spot) and have him as 4. I am also not so sure they want Assad to be counted on as a 5. Sure he would probably still get 20+ starts even if they had 5 above him, but I don’t think it is wise to comfortably slot him into the #5 slot, let alone #4, where you have him now.
  21. I get that. But I didn’t say anything about signing FA pitcher to a long term deal. I said if they sign a quality starter, your example was Flaherty for 4 year, they can add a younger starter that doesn’t have to be at Crochett s ceiling. Maybe Cabrera, Keller or a starter the Marlins are willing to deal. When I suggested that I was just saying if they signed Flaherty they might not need Crochett. Personally both those guys scare me, but I am just using them because you suggested them.
  22. I don’t know who, but you also don’t know if the Sox will trade Crochett either. We all just make educated guesses on who might be available. Maybe one of the young starters on the Mariners. Maybe Skubal. A pitcher in the Marlins (Cabrera). Keller of the Pirates. Those are just some off the top of my head. I am sure there are others. I get Crochett is a huge talent. But I just see arm problems plaguing him at some point. I can’t deny he is very talented. Also, if they did sign a quality starter as a FA I am not sure they have to aim as high as Crochett. As I said, maybe they deal for a lesser young pitcher for the MOR. They also then give up less.
  23. I don’t want Crotchet. I think he is an arm surgery waiting to happen. But other than that I don’t mind the idea. Just trade those guys for a different high end young pitcher.!
  24. I’m not counting the catcher. That is a seperate entity. So basically we are saying the same thing. 9 guys handle all positions except catcher. 2 guys split the catchers sure.
