    I've got faith in Happ. He always starts slow. I wouldnt be surprised if hes still hitting like trash in mid may, but then we will look at his overall line at the end of the year and he will have career numbers or in line with them again.

    Anyone have any reports on how Wiggin's command looked? I see the 7Ks and 2BBs but im curious if thats just a product of hitters being less advanced at South Bend. Was he hitting his spots? Also, it does seem like Cubs pitchers are going longer than they did in the past. Thank god. it used to drive me nuts that guys would get removed after 3 or 4 IP. I understand innings limits and throwing programs but it seemed like it would go the entire season. I'm hoping this helps build the pitching depths stamina for the long term. Loving some of the initial returns at the lower levels right now.

    I'm guessing beginning of June for Horton. I'd like to see him get that stamina up a little more and shake off some of that rust. I'd like to see the Cubs piggy back him in the 4/5 spot. I think that would be a good way to ease him into the pros and keep that innings limit low while providing valuable experience.

    Boyd got absolutely screwed over by his defense today.

    Ill take it from him. I think the big thing with Cade right now in the early going is getting his stamina up. Going 75 pitches with 6Ks is a good day.

    Id agree with you, but sticking at SS is always gonna be a strong indicator of future value imo. Valdez hasnt shown that he can't play SS at all yet but sticking up the middle will probably be an important factor in his development just due to his current/future hitting profile.

    Its a shame too. That ownership group is absolute trash. Pittsburgh deserves a good team again. That ball park is gorgeous.

    I saw that. I'm gonna chalk it up to the Cubs wanting positional versatility for now. One of these 10 SS the past 3 IFA classes the Cubs took has to pan out as a star, right? haha

    Hope Valdez and all those fly balls he hits continue to translate to home runs after his inevitable promotion. He's an exciting player if he can stick at SS.

    I'm not gonna even think about this game. This stuff will get cleaned up as the year moves along. Cubs didnt lose to the Padres last night, they beat themselves. Only think I'm gonna say is I never want to see Nate Pearson throw a pitch in a Cubs jersey ever again.

    I keep always having to remind myself that development of international kids can take so long since they come into the organization when they are 16.

    I dont have any data to prove it but this always seems like what Happ does. He starts the year off moderately slow but still gets on base and then you look at the end of the season and he's put up another 3 WAR year.

    At least its early in the season, if its worst case scenario he should be back next year. I like our depth and we have the pieces to acquire a frontline starter at the deadline.

    I always liked Darwin Barney. Absolute defensive beast at 2nd and seemed like a likeable guy.

    Ahh gotcha. I see what you're saying now. I interpreted your post differently. Shaw got 131 AB's at AAA and was pretty dominant. I'm also pro keep Shaw at the MLB level but I also dont think hes struggling as much as it looks. I think he's holding his own and consistently has good AB's. His walk rate is great and I think its just a matter of time before he starts barreling the ball. I do think having Shaw up right now is a bit of a necessity that pushed this type of development forward though. Let say we had signed Bregman for example, we are probably watching Shaw dominate AAA right now rather than cut his teeth and come along slowly at the MLB level, similar to what the Cubs did with Bellinger and PCA. I guess that's just kind of where the eye test comes into play and your scouting idk. I just think there is a lot of value at AAA that might be untapped but I do see the value in your point.

    Yeah I'd agree with you on the pitcher side. I didnt make it clear that I'm really just referencing hitters. Hitting and pitching development is so different that I separate them in my mind. I really believe in the value of AB's at AAA for hitting prospects. Id agree with you about being much more flexible on movement there than anywhere else though.
