  1. Saw Ohtani can possibly opt out if ownership changes or if Friedman leaves. Basically an anti tank/rebuild clause in his contract. Cubs probably didn't want to offer that since they are one of the few big market teams that enjoy doing a rebuild every 5 years
  2. I guess that caps off the Cubs offseason? Don't see Hoyer spending beyond Alfaro
  3. Makes a lot of sense for the Dodgers, one year rental til ohtani is ready to pitch again. Maybe Yamamoto doesn't want to play with a star like Ohtani.
  4. Wasn't he predicted on a 50 million deal?
  5. I was coping with the thought that ohtani didn't offer this deferment to any other team. Disappointing to learn this. Dodgers just went out there and got their man
  6. Can Manfred void that deal because of the wild deferment? I ask this just because I'm becoming increasingly salty
  7. It already has kinda worked out. The contract numbers itself created a frenzy in the sports and non sports world. Ohtani is the most marketable mlb player in the game right now. Everybody in Japan is a dodger fan now and someone mentioned on here that will likely create a pipeline of future npb talent wanting to play for the Dodgers. I saw that report that Sasaki wanted to be posted so that he could play with ohtani. Was that fake? Maybe yeah but that is a likely outcome of him signing with the Dodgers. The increased revenue of him being with the team will offset a lot of his cost. And this is all before he even takes the field. If he comes back hitting, they have a great DH. If he comes back pitching too then the Dodgers got a steal even at 700 mil. This case is unique to a unique player like ohtani.
  8. Jed needs to stop being a coward and pony up for a good player already. Dodgers are about to corner the entire Japanese market
  9. The two new York teams always seemed the biggest threat for Yamamoto. Unless the giants offer 300 mil
  10. Not mad at all at 700 mil, I love ohtani but can't justify that
  11. Saw that roki Sasaki asked to be posted but was likely to be denied. Interesting to follow since he's probably better than Yamamoto and younger. Might happen next year
  12. Wow that contract is crazy. I thought he'd end up there.
  13. Everyone's just trolling or just making horsefeathers up. Until Ohtani announces it I'm not believing horsefeathers
  14. What a roller coaster of emotions this has been
  15. With everything that's been said about Ohtani, with him wanting to win and being a guy devoted to his method and not liking to change it, I have doubts he'd join the Bluejays in the toughest division in baseball in a new country but im no insider.
  16. Doesn't ramirez have a ntc? I'd be ok moving any player for him but I feel like he doesn't ever want to leave Cleveland.
  17. Both are coming off down years but their overall body of work is impressive. But yeah a lot of red flags
  18. That would be epic, imagine getting all three. I'd be happy with that for an offseason
  19. 3 yr 45 mil. That's not bad, maybe Chapman won't get 150 mil
  20. Relieved tbh, he's solid but he was crap as a Cub and I thought Hoyer would overpay for him.
  21. Hopefully cubs make a run at him next free agency. Not much faith in hoyer tho
  22. That's a lot to give up, guess they did really want pitching. If the sticking point was Horton then I'm OK losing out here but if Jed balked because of the other arms they were asking for then I'd be pissed.
  23. And the Astros developed those players they drafted and signed through international free agency into superstars. They haven't had the need to go big in free agency.
  24. King and Thorpe is already an overpay and they are reportedly going to tack on more. Morel/Brown/Wesneski somewhat similar to that offer? Maybe Wicks instead of Wesneski
  25. So out on both ohtani and Yamamoto? Jed needs to get over his fear of big contracts, his weird fetish of trying to model after the rays is absurd because they never have won a world series. You need star power to win.
