    ill bet greg would like that. i kinda feel bad for the poor guy. i feel bad for all the good cub players, but at least the younger ones still have enough years left that theyll be able to sign with someone good before its too late. poor greg might have to end his career here. its a real shame. things were so much better back when he signed. short of z's elbow exploding (which may well be forthcoming), i think you might struggle to realistically play out these last couple seasons any worse than theyve gone.

    I think it's a lot more likely that Hendry would decide the Cubs were out of it and try to trade Maddux rather than have Dusty bench him. I also think it's highly unlikely that Hendry would try to trade Maddux.

    so when they dont win, can we not send them? id love to watch this, but when cubs get hurt ill be very upset. As will I. Maybe some of the position players. It just seems that we all complain about the pitchers being overpitched as it is. the whole setup really kind of scares me. some of these teams might take this really, really seriously. what if z is so overwhelmed with national pride that he tells his coach that he can throw 130 pitches every third day? i hope there are some assurances built in that make sure this can't happen.

    Innings pitched isn't a particularly good way of judging pitcher abuse anyway. Maddux can throw a 90 pitch complete game from time to time, and Wood can go out there and throw 140 pitches in 7 innings.

People were saying that Cruz must not be very good because the John Schuerholz, a successful gm, elected to trade him. It seems like a natural response to say then that he must be pretty good because Billy Beane, a successful gm, elected to trade for him.

Lets try to make sure that the moves are poor before we discount them I don't think you get it: statistics are never wrong - and infalliably they predict future events. I have a stat here that said Neifi was going to go 6 for 9 today. I do. No I'm not going to show it to you. It's secret. I bet $10 mil on Neifi going 6 for 9 today and now I have all the money in the world, thanks to statistics. Here's my impression of some: "Dammit - Neifi did good! The Cubs frickin won....man that sucks!' Here's my impresion of some others: "Yes, I was right today! That means all the other times I was wrong and will be wrong in the future, which will prove to greatly outnumber the time I was right, don't matter!"

One time I got really, really drunk, and I went outside. I saw a car that had a Cardinals bumper sticker on it. I hate the Cardinals so I walked over and put a bomb in it and blew it up because it seemed like a good idea to me. To my surprise, it turned out that Osama bin Laden was hiding in the trunk and I had killed him! I was immediately lauded as a hero.
