    before yesterday, i had no idea anyone thought it was good to eat bananas without brown spots. this is so weird to me.

    But division winners still get a berth, right? Even if it's the eight seed? not automatically. it is conceivable (if unlikely) that a whole division will miss the playoffs. i like it.

    I had several long posts on cubs.com explaining why none of that mattered. And when in doubt, "There's no way Hendry who built up this farm system over the last few years is going to hire a manger who'll destroy it." There was a lot of that going around. I distinctly remember Giants fans complaining about "forfeit Sundays" when Dusty would give all the good players the day off on the same day. They also complained about his unwillingness to play prospects but we laughed because our prospects were so good that he'd want to play them. oh my god i forgot about forfeit sundays i will always be a dusty buster.

    far be it from me to complain about having a good chance to make it to the wild card game, but (hopefully) watching a number dwindle to zero so we can play one road game against a superior team for the chance to make the real playoffs doesn't fill me with joy. if we make it to and then lose the wild card game, i'm not going to feel demonstrably better than if the giants and dodgers get crazy hot and we miss the wild card game despite winning 88. oh god all it took was a few losses to get this guy back bring back bombastic tree! THIS IS MIDDLE TREE i didn't even say we were going to miss the wild card game or even necessarily lose it! bombastic tree is on the shelf until we start alternating 6 and 9 game win streaks again (or win the wild card game). dark tree is on the shelf until we lose the wc lead. or until the night before the wild card game. that is going to be a brutal night.* *if it happens, middle tree takes nothing for granted

    OH BOY I AM EXCITED FOR THIS TO BECOME A MAJOR STORY the timing is too perfect, whether it's arrieta seeing baez's name on the lineup card and being happy castro is sitting or castro expressing displeasure with returning to the bench.

    i like how this is where we are with haren. we know better than to bother wishing that he pitches well or doesn't give up any hr, so we just pray that he can keep it to three hr allowed.
