  1. i think this is the big thing.
  2. It seems like that, but IIRC, the average height of the adult American male is right around 5'8" I thought it was more like 5'11". I feel about average and I'm 6'1" I just checked, and it seems to be just a shade over 5'9" i'm going to have to start listing myself as straight up 5'10" rather than a strong 5'9" then
  3. harvey's k/bb ratio as a pro is just hilarious what a cub
  4. bad day for dunn today, only one home run better luck tomorrow ps - 308/396/795
  5. i'm taking dh, somebody add that to the list i'm just going to rake, but we already have firstbasemen and there's no way i'm going to out-field them.
  6. is very bad to make fun of dunn
  7. rincon is one guy that i didn't really have too much of a concern about him having one of those wacky cardinal years, due to watching him so much last year. UGH
  8. Useless only to those that can't understand a very simple analogy. simple to people who know fishing. ive never heard it before in my life.
  9. Well Ramirez is sort of locked up, it's just a matter of whether he opts out or not after this year. I cant think of a better option at 3B. How much does he have left? "I want to be a Cub for the rest of my life." I think it would take a lot for Ramirez to opt out. Either a season so astronomically good that he knew for sure that he could get a lot more on the FA market, or major shakeups that he didn't like involving the Cubs. I highly doubt he opts out. you dont think he could get better than 2/22.5 as a free agent? Perhaps he values certain things more than an extra few million. Perhaps he realizes that if he becomes a free agent he can just re-sign with the cubs for more money/years than he's current under contract for. So you think about 14 mil/year is too much to be spending on Lee, but Ramirez should be getting paid more than 11.25? where did i come anywhere close to saying that? i just said that if ramirez files for free agency he can make more money and more years and the cubs will have to pay him. at the very least aramis will start talking about it and the cubs will have to rework his deal.

  12. this appears to be another reference i dont get im sorry much of the board doesnt like dusty because he's a terrible manager, please dont take your frustrations out on me. I'm a little shocked you of all posters on NSBB are upset about a sarcastic post directed your way. im not upset, im confused i suppose i AM upset if the implication is that i like napoleon dynamite, but since i dont, i dont really understand what he's saying.
  13. this is the best one http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v386/edstevensiscool/newbusch.jpg

  15. I agree. They also don't take into account the home stadium the player was playing in at the time or adjustsments the player's has made to his swing. Sometimes players gain a new level of mastery over a new pitch or hitting the inside fastball in the case of DLee and it leads to a whole new level of production. Regressive projections fail to take developments like those into account. Go see the baseball discussions thread on this topic: PECOTA has his stats progressing, regressing and then progressing again. That's really helpful. Are you referring to his projected production progessing, regressing and then progressing again? Or are you referring to the method of projection? I was referring to the method used to create a projection, a method based solely on his previous statistics and thus called a regressive projection. Such a projection doesn't take into account the ballpark the player was playing in at the time or adjustments he has made such as mastering a new pitch or hitting the inside fastball, etc. what do you mean they don't take into account ballpark? of course they do. do you know anything about this stuff?
  16. talking in analogies that people dont understand is dumb, even if they turn out to be technically correct
  17. id be shocked if this ended up as a bargain. i think the best case scenario is it's a good deal at the beginning and then not horrible at the end but more than you'd like to pay.
  18. Link personally i wouldn't let a skunk in the boat with me in the first place
  19. i dont think that's likely at all
  20. I'm pretty sure whether it's crazy or not my reaction is going to be "I really hope he's the best hitter in the game for a while longer". well sure, but if we decided it would be fun to give him 5/70, we're going to be wishing a heck of a lot harder. 5/70 for Lee would be a fair deal for the Cubs. Jim Thome got 6/85 in 2002 at the same age. and that was a terrible deal

  22. Tied up. Carlos Lee first hit in new Busch in second followed immediately by Bill Hall hitting first homerun in new Busch. Pujols hr, Molina sac fly. no we only want to talk about the cardinals if they are losing
