  2. the umpires suck, i want robots calling balls and strikes
  3. It's the "guys who can catch the ball" of 2007. Imagine for a second that the 2007 infielders all produce at their career averages in 2007, unlikely, but not absurd. Lee - 155 games, 123 OPS+ DeRosa - 100 games, 90 OPS+ Izturis - 100 games, 68 OPS+ Ramirez - 140 games, 109 OPS+ Throw in a bad-nutted Michael Barrett - 130 games 91 OPS+, backed up by Blanco - 50 games, 66 OPS+ Man, the pitching better be really really good this year. Hey, while we're doing that, can we also assume that Mark Prior and Kerry Wood will pitch to their career averages? The pitching is looking pretty darn good once we do that. im pretty sure that doesn't make any sense, unless you really meant to imply that prior was going to make 22 starts
  4. derrek lee pre-breakout and mark derosa pre-breakout are not similar in any way.
  5. lewis wolff et al had a big press conference today and announced a bunch of stuff about fremont and how it's going to happen. unfortuantely, one of the things they announced is that the phrase "of fremont" will be in the team name. early speculation is "san jose a's of fremont." oh boy.
  6. i detonated on test, jim hendry should come take lessons on closing the deal
  7. Webb should have won. Zambrano should have finished 2nd. oswalt had more IP, a lower ERA, a better k/bb, a better DERA, a much higher vorp (72-54), a better whip, allowed fewer home runs, and even had a better g/f ratio than zambrano. carpenter had more IP, a lower ERA, a better k/bb, a better DERA, a significantly higher vorp (68-54), a better whip, and even had a better g/f ratio than zambrano. carlos did allow one fewer home run though. arroyo and maybe even smoltz were better than carlos this season too, but it's closer there, especially with smoltz.
  8. good news everyone, we can lock this thread now since it no longer holds true
  9. good news everyone, i did a good job and woke up on time and studied a little bit. LOOKS LIKE I'M PERFECT SO FAR oh wait, i have an exam in 20 minutes. it's almost as though, so far, everything i've had to do was really obvious and required little skill. i do believe i'll evaluate my day AFTER my test, and not before it.
  10. hooooorrrrayyyyyy good news everyone, it's actually really hard to find heroin
  11. anyone care to guess what i'm going to do?
  12. GOODNEWS EVERYONE ivde drinken enough that when i read this thread now i just laugh alot especially when i readabout the cubs offer
  13. your typing and punctuation are waaaay too good. drink up johnny, you got a long way to go. i can only go so far. i finished the whiskey and now just have some skol left. i hate skol.
  14. I'm 6 blue moons in. I still care. Need to drink more. yeah thats not even close. i'm at something like 8 shots, but if i told you i could actually remember at this point, i'd be lying.
  15. bump for those of us who had to search for it to find out why everyone is so fired up. good thinking
  16. good news everyone, i drank a bunch of cheap whiskey (who can afford jim beam?) and now i don't care anymore. everyone of age should follow suit.
  17. usually illinois wait until the fourth quarter to blow games. on the plus side, i guess this doesn't really count as choking.
  18. I understand what you're saying, but budgetary principles can be stupid things to hang onto. Lets say you have to buy 2 items: You need to buy a TV and a DVD player. You have a fixed amount of money to spend on both. You go into Best Buy saying you want to spend no more than $1000 on the TV, and $300 on the DVD player. You bring $1300 with you. You get there, and you see an unbelievably good TV for $1150. It's more than what you resolved to spend, but it will make a huge difference in picture quality. Do you stick to your budgetary principle and get the inferioir TV that will get you by, and get your nice DVD player with a bunch of options, or do you change your budget around, get the nice TV that will make even a poor DVD player look awesome, and get a midrange DVD player? This is what Hendry is faced with. He has the choice between the really good 3B and a cheap bench, or an average 3B and a moderately priced bench. Which is going to make a bigger difference? Both will cost the same net amount of money; its where you allocate your funds that makes the difference. why should we buy a tv and dvd player when we can get 8 vcr's?
  19. the resolution of our two opinions is obviously to let me come with you. i'll shoot up as you knock. sounds good to me.
  20. exactly. everyone always says that contracts like rusch's aren't the problem with the cubs. if that's the case, tossing another 3 million a year towards aramis shouldn't be a tough decision at all.
  21. but he's great with RISP! He's so good at sports writing, it's like he wins games with his words. izturis gets rbi's with his glove, olney gets rbi's with his columns
  22. So what is Boras's position then? Why does he think he can get Matsuzaka back on the market at age 29 for the real payday? Can you put a clause into a contract making someone a free agent early? Maybe Boras thinks he can get that.
