  1. I'm biased against Floyd, because in MVP 05, Floyd is a nice little prospect at the outset, but he never gets any better and he's basically worthless.
  2. chris carpenter through age 27 is terrible and about to have a major injury. http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/carpech01.shtml And look what happened. Little NL cookin', little decent lineup around him, and wa-la good pitcher. yes, after a major injury in which he missed a full season and completely rebuilt himself as a pitcher. seems like a good bet. I always thought *not* needing surgery would be a positive thing. Thanks for setting me straight. my point was just that, assuming lilly's elbow doesn't explode this season, his career path is about to diverge from carpenter. if carpenter proves to be a good comp, then a lot of really interesting things are going to happen in the next three years (rehab season, good season, cy young season, in that order).
  3. Is the glut of backloaded contracts the Cubs have handed out this winter worrying anyone else? not jim hendry, he'll either be gone or have a multi-year contract

  6. Well, durability seems to be the most coveted attribute in pitchers this offseason, or at least the image of durability. Maybe the A's are sick of Harden's health issues and the Mets don't really care, and are willing to go nuts getting him. or maybe his elbow really is dead (tjs has been mentioned in connection to him a number of times) and the a's are going to lose him while they still can.
  7. smart move by krivsky. mercker will now teach the young pitchers in the minor leagues while his arm recovers, and the reds will have control of the cy young award for the next 20 years Its true, imagine what Homer Bailey is thinking right now. Not only will he learn the nuances of major league pitching from a true All-Star, but he will also learn about banging hot broads and drinking Grey Goose straight. Kent truly is the king of kings.
  8. the cardinals winning the world series had a lot more to do with a deal with steve stone than it did with kent.
  9. The mods have been alerted. i alerted them too, watch your back
  10. bad news, mercker lovers. I just did some figuring. Apparently, we've been overstating his value to a certain extent. According to some of the most recent projections I've come across, Kent would likely add only 25-30 wins to the Cubs in 2007, a far cry from the 44 he contributed in 2004. Obviously, he's still the most valuable free agent on the market, but the Cubs will have to consider fielding a team near replacement level around him if they hope to win 100 games.
  11. zito in texas is an amazingly bad idea.
  12. i don't understand why albert bothered to come out and try to fix things if he wasn't going to make the effort to lie about what he originally said.
  13. a lot of people tried to avoid looking at jesus' threads, too.
  14. Because they'd like to win a game in the playoffs for once? They probably could've won with Orton out there today. Maybe they could get HFA with him too? Should we do that?
  15. Seriously, this is beyond me not liking Rex anymore. Try Griese. If he doesn't work out, then go back to Rex. You no longer have anything to lose. A 0.0 rating is BEYOND pathetic. HFA isn't going to matter if Rex keeps playing like he has been. Go right back to Rex? So you sit Grossman for two or three weeks, go back to Rex right before the playoffs start, and expect him to play better than he did today? They're not facing good competition the rest of the way. Let the offense come back together again over the last four weeks. They're not going to be making any switches, so it doesn't really matter. Grossman wasn't exactly playing a good team today either. He's getting worse, not better. What's the harm in seeing if Griese can be good? Rex can't have any confidence at this point anyway, so I can't believe he's going to be crushed. The last comment is just dismissive for no reason. I don't see you going into the threads in Transactions about Zito or Bonds or Drew or anyone, telling people that their comments don't matter.
  16. vikings should've kicked the field goal as soon as they got inside the 30.
  17. why would the vikings go to their 3rd string rookie rather than back to johnson?
  18. And if he does will you join me in a nice crow sandwich? id love to
  19. good news everyone, rex may get a chance to redeem himself, due to the fact that we are not closing this one out.
  20. oml completed pass + first down = far and away grossman's best play of the day
  21. dresden dolls PUNK CABARET IS FREEDOM
  22. i was going to vote for the pro bowl on my mobile phone, but now i'm not going to because grossman is in the commercial.
  23. Bears Defense -- 7 Bears Special Teams -- 7 Vikings -- 6 Bears Offense -- 0
