  1. what on earth is unethical about that? also, i loooove how mad some people are getting about the jokes. they're not crazy funny at this point, but there's some truth there, which i guess is why people flip out and try to shout them down. things aren't going great. it's okay to acknowledge it.
  2. if your brother is bob nightengale please tell him to p*ss off
  3. There's a midnight train to Dodgertown. I say we take it. IM IN. ME THREE (legend legend third wheel legend always in the way)
  4. The take it or leave it approach only works if you're actually willing to beat out competitive teams in years/money. which we aren't, plus we also have the added bonus of offering players no shot at the postseason next year. everyone would laugh at us if we tried that.
  5. think about how much more enjoyable this offseason would be if we didn't hear about all these awesome things that never actually happen. we should really just go back to reading the newspaper.
  6. That scenario also figures in another terrible team in 2013 meaning we have to make up 25 wins in one offseason in order to not punt 3 consecutive years.
  7. maples johnson underwood
  8. i love crazy sidearm pitchers so this is cool with me
  9. slow down nate silver, stop backing this up with so much data
  10. that was my first thought as well. these guys are all fine as inexpensive placefillers, but the point of having guys like this around is so you can acquire real production in another spot. instead our entire non castro-rizzo offense is going to be those guys.
  11. this is exactly what our receivers trying to throw a game would look like
  12. It'd be about right since every other advantage we should have is being taken away. 120 million dollar salary cap for teams that wear blue
  13. i think so. and i know some big chicago media person (probably sullivan) mentioned an edmonds comp after the 2011 season, because i remember one of my friends emailing me excitedly about how there was this new guy the cubs had that was going to be just like jim edmonds. it is weird to think about how there are people who realllllllllllly love the cubs but don't know anything about them that isn't spoon fed to them from either the tribune or the sun-times.
  14. 6) paniagua 7) maples 8) johnson
  15. wagers with a 90% chance of pushing are the most interesting wagers, imo
  16. Awful. Works fine for the opening of the game or the half or something, but what happens when the game is close late and one team is trying to come back. The chances of converting a 4th and 15 would be MUCH better than an onside kick. that sounds good to me, the chances of recovering an onside kick are too low
  17. if we're counting fujikawa: 5) fujikawa 6) paniagua 7) maples if we're not counting fujikawa: 5) paniagua 6) maples 7) vogelbach
  18. agreed, we should all be referring to him as THE NATURAL
  19. i am generally very wary of mediocre guys who appear to have strong splits in small numbers of plate appearances. much more likely this is a whatever 4th or 5th outfielder than a guy on the tough half of a starting platoon.
  20. if you make the assumption that this plan works perfectly and we have the best organization in baseball in four years, we'll be okay with basically anything. that isn't particularly likely, though.
  21. do it
  22. hang up and listen did a big thing several months ago about what the new name should be, and one of the guys was plugging pelicans. i loved it then and i love it now.
  23. quail hunting in the southwest is usually a cover. is getting people to agree that you are an oilman the new market inefficiency?
  24. I too want more details on this
  25. a thousand times this. also, it's becoming more and more apparent to me that, at its heart, college football is terrible. i know that every team and sport has bad fans, but jesus christ look at the people who like college football more than anyone else: these are like the worst people in the america!
